We had everything we needed it was lovely and cosy. We met the owner who went above and beyond making us welcome. There's plenty of beautiful walks and also close to Saltburn and Marske. Would definitely recommend this beautiful little cottage especially if you have a dog because of the beautiful walks your four legged friend not want to leave.

  • "The cottage was very clean, warm and the bed was extraordinarily comfortable: few snags (no bread knife/grater, bathroom door doesn't close)."

It'd be nice to have local up to date area info and local produce in the welcome pack but that's a 'nice to have', rather than essential. Garden needs to be explained to dog owners (shared space with next door on the pathway, big jump up/down to garden which isn't suitable for older or arthritic dogs, small dogs can get through the gate, the front wall is low, next door dogs can put their head through the gate into Chapel Cottage garden. There was no problem between our dogs and lovely dogs at The Chapel's during our stay but it would be tricky for people with tiny, less mobile, or reactive dogs - it'd be helpful to have a bit more detail about gardens where the property is marketed as being dog friendly with an enclosed garden (or be able to chat with someone who knows the property). Location was lovely, very peaceful and nice to have walks straight out of the cottage.

We’re pleased to hear you enjoyed exploring the local area and enjoyed the peace and quiet of Chapel Cottage. I’m sorry to hear you had such an issue with the garden at the cottage though. The garden is secure for dogs as is the neighbouring properties garden. The path to both properties is a shared path with The Chapel nextdoor. Both gardens have gates keeping them completely separate and secure for dogs. I can only assume people weren’t keeping their gates closed which is unfortunately out of our control. In terms of the garden having a step to assess it, the property was build in 1670 as was the garden wall which is approximately 1.5ft high, we didn’t think this needed a step to access it as it’s only very small and we didn’t want to start changing any original features. I’m sorry the bread knife and grater seem to have gone missing, I will make sure these are replaced asap thank you for bringing it to our attention. We’ll also check out the bathroom door as this was closing fine, so we will check and rectify the problem if there is one. Although the welcome pack wasn’t “fresh produce” I do hope you managed to enjoy what was left for you. It’s a shame we didn’t hear from you during your stay so we could have explained these things to you. Our contact number is left in the cottage, we’d have been more than happy to help rectify/explain anything with some of issues you mention to help you enjoy your stay. Property Owner

  • "We stay in holiday cottages a few times a year and this one was an absolute dream."

There is usually a bit of an ick somewhere which you can pass off as being out in the countryside but nothing here. It was immaculate. The beds the comfiest we have slept in, the shower was great, furniture comfortable (now there are 4 comfy seats, not a 2 seater and 1 chair as shown in the listing photos), the woodland walk was great, takeaways did deliver which was sadly important (having 2 a giant 13 year old who cannot be filled). Saltburn is roughly a 5 minute drive away, Redcar and Marske are about 10 minutes away, Staithes is about 20 minutes and Whitby 40 minutes. All are great beaches for fossil hunting and the lemon tops in Redcar is worth the drive. (Lemon sorbet on top of Mr whippy in a cone). Fresh farm eggs around the corner, smallest church in England and plenty of Red Kites, kestrels, deer and a stampede of about 30 cows right outside the house on the road a few times which we found really amusing. The 4 of us and 2 pups had a great time and brilliant weather and will be back. Thanks so much.

  • "The property was immaculately clean and I felt very comfortable with everything provided."

There wasn’t anything missing which would have made the break easier or more enjoyable. I think it was accurately described and if I had to make any adjustments I’d suggest a change of the tub chairs to something more comfortable and practical however I understand that it’s tight for space so they suit the space available but another 2 seater sofa would probably take up similar space? This is the only issue where I’d make an adjustment but that’s being really picky. I’m hoping to rebook when I come back to the area. I thought the cottage was very well presented and the owners should be proud of the work they’ve put into it.

Thank you for taking the time to review Chapel Cottage. We’re so pleased you enjoyed your stay and found the cottage cosy and comfortable. We’ll definitely keep your comment regarding the tub chairs in mind. We’ve tried a lot of alternative seating arrangements in the past and struggled to find a “perfect fit”. Unfortunately another two seater sofa would mean there wouldn’t be sufficient space to use the table and chairs. I guess the space restrictions are expected given the age and quirkiness of the cottage. Do let us know if you are visiting again in the future. We’d love to welcome you back soon! Property Owner

Thank you for the lovely feedback. There’s something about a wood burning stove to give cosy, festive feels isn’t there. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. We do hope we can welcome you back this year. I’m sure you’d find the cottage just as charming in the spring/summer. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cosy cottage for two."

We feel the description of sleeps 4 to be misleading though. There is one downstairs room making up kitchen/dining/living room - absolutely lovely old range with multi-fuel burner. But seriously no room for more than 2/3 as furniture has to be moved for fold-up dining table. Also immersion heater would not support 4 people taking showers. Location fantastic for Cleveland Way, Saltburn Guisborough.

Thank you for taking the time to review Chapel Cottage. The cottage is very much a cosy “chocolate box” cottage which is over 300 years old. The layout of the property is as it stood years ago, which naturally makes it smaller downstairs. There was no separate kitchen/dining back then as all of the cooking would have been done on the multi-fuel stove. The fold away dining table just helps to maximise the space downstairs. The property description hopefully explains the open plan living area and dining set up before arrival. If you were looking for a larger property Chapel Cottage is situated nextdoor to The Chapel (Sykes ref ID: 1026640) which is considerably bigger and sleeps up to six people. Hopefully we can welcome you back to stay with us at The Chapel if this would be more suited to your taste. Once again thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

Neil, the owner, was always discreetly at hand to deal with any minor issues and even cleared the leaves from the footpath halfway through the stay. The cottage is compact which made it cosy but the upstairs was bigger and comfortable and warm. Was keen to use the multi-fuel burner each evening but the heating was rather efficient which made it a bit obsolete! Walks for our two pups were great and varied but the freedom to run in an unoccupied field's was their favorite with detours into the woods. All in all a great stay and highly recommended.

Ample roadside parking space. Beds very comfortable. Smart and spacious bathroom with bath and separate electric shower over which worked superb. Bath would benefit from a grab rail and a non slip bath mat for safety purposes. Lounge/kitchen area comfortable for the two of us with one settee and one arm chair. Unfortunately we did find the space somewhat limited when erecting the fold away dining table for meal times. Generally, we found the whole experience relaxing and most enjoyable.
