  • "This is one of the cleanest cottages I have ever stayed in."

The property owners have made a good effort to combine rustic charm with modern style and luxuries. I can only assume that the owners are either meticulous cleaners or that the property has been recently redecorated, because it was absolutely immaculate. The property was confusing and difficult to find, but the upside of that was that it made the property very secluded and private, which I enjoyed very much. Often with these rural cottages you have to park far away from the property and lug all of your belongings to and from the car, but the property's gated driveway made this a pleasant exception. Sleeping wasn't too bad, since the area is so quiet, but the bed is quite firm. This, in fact, is the only aspect where I could recommend improvement - The bed would benefit from a mattress topper or entirely new replacement and the sofas are pretty hard too. All in all, this is a very enjoyable and well-stocked cottage and would seriously consider booking again if I return to the area.

  • "This was our 3rd visit to Hall Garth Cottage and we absolutely love it."

It might be a little small for a group of 4 adults but for the 2 of us and our little dog it’s perfect. The location is great for walking, the village pub is lovely and everything is so quiet and peaceful. The cottage is clean, warm, cosy and extremely well equipped. All it needs for me is a full length mirror but that’s just being picky. Can’t wait to return.

  • "Guidance on parking was invaluable, thanks."

Everything else was just perfect for two or three (not 4) people to stay although as the reviews said, you probably wouldn’t want to have to spend a wet day sitting on the sofas. Strangely, no vegetable peeler? And beware of the shower curtain rather Han a screen but if that’s all you can find wrong with a holiday house, it’s pretty good going, we will probably book again - thank you

  • "The cottage was modern, very clean and in a great location."

We arrived on the Friday night, there was an issue with the toilet but the owners, with no hesitation, organised plumbers who arrived by 8am on Saturday morning. We really couldn't have asked for more! Thank you for a lovely stay and we'll be sure to recommend!

  • "Sadly there is no real comfort to relax after walking."

The toilet does not flush properly therefore keeps backing up. The contact number in the cottage details is unobtainable. No reply from Sykes to my email re bins not being collected, that I accept is a local authority problem

  • "A beautifully furnished and maintained cottage with everything we could possibly need."

Not on one level as described and as mentioned by previous occupants, the two sofas are very uncomfortable for an evening relaxing. Parking is a challenge too! A gate to keep your dog safe would be very helpful too. However, we would certainly make a return visit.

  • "Very clean and well equipped."

Beds were comfortable too. Only downside were the 2 sofas in the living room; they were not very comfortable when wanting to settle down in front of the TV after a day's walking in the countryside.

  • "Very clean and comfortable."

Great range of equipment in the kitchen. Very good shower. Parking situation is a bit strange, but the location of the cottage in the village is ideal for walking. There is a walk across the fields to Aysgarth Falls and another north towards Bolton Castle. The village pub is a very short walk away and is excellent for food and drink, and is dog friendly! Thoroughly recommended.

Thank you for the recommendation! There are various options for parking. For ease, most people park on the private gravel drive before the gates (around 20 yards from the front door). There is also plenty of roadside parking available at the property or in the car park spaces at St Matthew’s Well. Some people have also parked right outside the front door, but that requires reversing out. Property Owner

About the location

CARPERBY

Aysgarth 1.6 mile; Castle Bolton 3.2 miles; Leyburn 8.3 miles.

This idyllic Wensleydale village is situated in a walker’s paradise, close to Castle Bolton, Bolton Hall, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls. During the 17th century, Carperby was an important centre for Quakerism and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House which overlooks the market cross and village green. The popular village pub serves good food and an excellent range of real ales and is the main focal point of village life. Nearby, Redmire is on the Wensleydale Railway, which features steam locomotives during the summer and has regular special events. This is an ideal location for walking and touring the many attractions of Wensleydale and Swaledale - nearby are the historic Richmond and Middleham, as well as the attractive market towns of Bedale and Leyburn. There are numerous restaurants and award-winning pubs too, and nearby attractions include Fountains Abbey, Wensleydale Creamery and Rope Factory and the thrilling Lightwater Valley. The nearest town, Leyburn, is dominated by its large market square, which still boasts a lively Friday market. The town has much to offer with its many craft shops, galleries and tea rooms. Also within easy reach are many other attractions, notably the Constable Burton Hall and Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, the Forbidden Corner with its underground passages to explore, and of course the lovely Georgian town of Richmond with its fine castle ruins. Visit Bolton Castle, with its mighty towers and rectangular courtyard, one of the finest preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire. Dating back to 1378, much of the castle survived the orders to destroy famous Yorkshire castles, issued by Parliament in The Civil War. It is also located perfectly for cycling; the famous opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France passed just over a mile away. For the adventurous, mountain biking routes run from the door, over Preston moor and into wild Swaledale.
