  • "The property is in a good location for visiting York and the surrounding area."

There are very good eating establishments nearby as well as the York Park and Ride facility. The following feedback is given with the intention of being helpful: - a welcome pack would have been appreciated, even just a pint of milk and some tea and coffee sachets. Rather surprising there was nothing. - the bed linen needs attention, there were stains on a pillow case and a bed sheet. - towels were provided but one had a hole in it. - the shower cubicle needed cleaning before we were prepared to use it. - overall more attention should be given to cleaning the Lodge, there were dust gatherings on some furniture and debris under the settee cushions. - the place suits a couple yet there are two single beds and no headboard. It would be far better with a double bed, headboard and new bed linen. - some thought might be given to the bedroom furniture as it is very dated pine furniture and cluttered. A wardrobe able to hang ladies dresses would be far better. - the outside patios would benefit from a jet wash and some weeding. Sorry, but great location but let down by attention to detail.

I’m sorry Mr C didn’t feel the cottage met up to his expectations but none of this was communicated to me whilst he was here. I no longer leave milk as people have their own very personal preferences these days. However there is coffee, tea bags and sugar in the kitchen cupboard, together with washing up liquid. I launder all the bedding and towels myself and inspect this as it is boxed up for use. The bedding was all clean when it was put on the beds. The hole in the towel was the size of a 5p piece and this was the only detail given to me, by phone, when the guests were leaving. The shower cubicle was cleaned prior to the guests arrival as was the whole cottage. The question of pine furniture is purely personal taste and it would be impossible to cater to everyone’s preference in such a small cottage. Property Owner

  • "Well equipped cottage on the outskirts of York."

Comfortable beds and excellent Smart tv. Close to P&R for York and good road links for gardens such as Harlow Carr, Beningbrough Hall and Burnby Hall, Gardens & Museum. There's a Londis shop nearby in Acomb and a lovely cafe further on, called Tea on the Green.

  • "This compact property was very warm and welcoming."

It was very comfortable and very well equipped with everything we needed. It's location was excellent, and given the proximity of the main road was extremely quiet. There were some very small areas which were showing signs of wear and tear but overall an excellent holiday.

  • "We found Lodge Cottage to be a delightful place in which to stay."

The beds and sofas were comfortable and the kitchen was easy to work in. It is well situated to walk across the fields to Rufforth, and also to get to Acomb, and thence to shops. The view across the field right outside the French door was very soothing, and the sunsets were beautiful.

  • "A very pleasant stay at this comfortable and quiet cottage."

Well equipped, and with easy access to York from the nearby Park and Ride on the ring road. Parking onsite is appreciated, although if using an electric vehicle you will have to share/negotiate charging point with the owner who lives next door. This can make parking in the guest parking area a little tight for larger vehicles, as the owner parks his large EV next to the cottage, in the two car parking space. The village pub is no longer open, but nearby M&S food shop at the BP garage on the ringroad will provide essentials such as milk or bread, as there is no welcome pack.

Lodge Cottage is a part of the owners property and the charging point is for the owners car. This cannot be used generally as all chargers are individual to the make of vehicle and a charging station is available at the nearby Park & Ride. We have never had a problem previously and, indeed, have had three cars parked in this area. The guests only required one car parking space. Mention of the village pub has been removed from our listing, until such time as we have a new, permanent, landlord. My welcome packs were left unused so many times that we stopped doing these, without any obvious detriment but leave tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid etc available in the cottage Property Owner

We didn’t discover until this guest had left that the fitting which keeps the door in the rail had come off and had rolled under the bed! This has now been replaced and the door works as it should and closes properly. Property Owner

We went in November and the cottage was lovely and warm throughout our stay and the facilities top notch. We love to cook and the kitchen was well equipt for holiday needs. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage itself is decorated and furnished in a modern style, comfortable and pleasing to the eye. In easy reach of York and close to a Park and Ride (about 6 minutes away). It is a rural location and outside there were sheep in the field and I expect it would be really beautiful. Highly recommended. Would definitely go back.

The seating in the cottage was not very comfortable we think it has seen better days and could have done with a good hoover. We could not have the back door open as the smell of cats was unbearable for me as i am allergic to cats but it was not very nice sitting out their anyway. the bathroom was very small but adequate. We got out and about alot plenty to see and do in York.

Thank you for staying at Lodge Cottage and providing feedback on your stay. The seating in the cottage is actually not old, the covers are changed regularly as one could expect with a cream linen-covered suite, these can become slightly soiled. It is extremely difficult to satisfy the comfort perceptions of each individual client, but we do try very hard. With regard to the smell of cats, we do not have any cats. We have squirrels, foxes, rabbits and pheasants wild in the field at the back of the cottage, swallows nesting in the stable, but no cats. Property Owner

Every morning we saw a squirrel running along the patio or fence and there were bunnies too. We liked the fact that the key to the cottage was in a key box so that we were totally flexible regarding the time of arrival. The owners were away during our stay but made sure that we knew how to get in touch with them which we appreciated a lot. We did indeed contact them once and they replied immediately. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed and the bathroom was good too but a bit small. There were many leaflets and brochures about things to do and see in the area and a road atlas which came in very handy for us. We would stay there again.

It looked quite small when we 1st pulled up ,but inside was very spacious. The cottage itself was very well presented inside , everything you needed for a home from home. We were relaxed from the minute we arrived, loved watching the rabbits running around in the meadow outside. The cottage is well situated just outside Knapton village, far enough out for a peaceful stay, yet near enough to do all the things we wanted to do, Visit York etc. I only met the owner once but he was really lovely. They even left us fresh milk in the fridge on our arrival. I would certainly stay there again. Forget the extortionate price of hotels , go for a Sykes cottage, its worth every penny. Sykes themselves are a really good company. I have no complaints at all 11 out of 10 :)

We loved the privacy, the closeness to the park and ride and the general environment. A few minor niggles however: - WiFi needs to be more easily accessible (a booster doesn't cost much) - A little close to a major road added some noise. - The space can be a bit tight. Removing one of the settees might help. - Two double beds rather than a single bed. Good for friends but less preferable for couples.
