Only a short walk to the beach too. We loved our stay, despite the rotten weather in July and the next door adjoining property having noisy renovations. The downside of the latter was the work man's van blocking the sea view for most of the day. The property was well equipped and reasonably comfortable. An ideal location for exploring the local beaches and countryside. We would book again. Thank you

Very easy to reach the beach from the house in minutes. The ‘boot room’ accessible from the front drive made cleaning up sandy dogs before entering the house so easy. Lovely enclosed garden with new furniture.

  • "What a lovely holiday home."

Try as I might I couldn't find a hairdryer...the only thing missing from a very well equipped home. The gardener came and cut the fairly long lawn while we were out. Left the cuttings in place. As a dog friendly rental this made considerable mess every time our small dog went out. It would be awful lot worse if young children had been staying. I realise the grass was wet ...but could have been raked up.! The conservatory doors were very difficult to secure...warped and damaged which left the house insecure.

It is warm, comfortable & has everything we need. 2 adults & a dog. I have mentioned it before that a handle on the wall of the bath for when using the shower would be of great benefit, especially for my husband who has bad knees. Other than that we love it & will be back I am sure.

  • "UNCOMFORTABLE STAY."

In future i will take better note of other people's comments. Having read several previous comments about the chairs in the front room, we assumed the owner would have changed the furniture but sadly that hadn't happened. It was impossible to relax in rock hard, threadbare chairs and the armchair covers were very dirty and hadn't seen a washing machine in a long time. You can feel all the wood and metal in the arms of the chairs as the padding has gone. The double bed mattress sags both sides so i lacked sleep most nights and got back ache in the chairs and the bed. When we arrived, we went into the garden with our dogs and one of them walked over a small pile of glass from a vase that had been left in the garden and had gotten broken. The cups were stained and every plate, pot and pan had food stuck to it so i spent the evening washing crockery. The boot room door that leads to the back garden is flimsy and one hard pull and someone will be able to break in. Crumbs and plastic left behind a sofa. All in all, for the money, i'm honestly shocked and we will never stay again. When you've had a full day of activities, you want to chill out and watch tv, but that was totally impossible due to the bad furniture. Its worn, aged. All those comments about it being dated is so true. It looks like your nans house. Also No logs were left for the fire. Normally you are left a courtesy basket of logs but not in this house.

  • "We had a lovely stay despite Storm Babet."

I think a grab rail over the bath for getting in & out of the shower would be very useful & would feel safer, getting in & out. To be honest I would have made more in the advertising of the space downstairs, i.e. the conservatory / garden room. It was a lovely surprise to find all of the light & airy space. Would love to stay again.

Sitting in the window looking at the sea view, or on the bench in the front garden, pure bliss. Everything we needed was there. Will book again. Sandsend itself is lovely. Easy access to Whitby and walks from the doorstep if you don't want you to drive. Perfect.

  • "The house was lovely, well equipped with nice touches such as picnic hamper."

Unfortunately the cups were not very clean (we had to put them all in the dishwasher to remove tanin stains) the beds need replacing as they dipped in the middle. There was no hairdryer and there was litter visible behind one of the bedside tables (2 railway tickets and a bottle of water). The seats in the living room were not very comfortable either. We did enjoy our stay but feel that for the price per week the accommodation/ furniture should be of a higher quality.

Our only comments for the owner are that, in the absence of a walk in shower, a grab handle - or handles - over the bath would improve safe access into and of the bath. We now look forward to the reimbursement of our 'damages' deposit. With Regards Steve & Sue Burke

  • "We enjoyed being in Sandsend again with lovely weather."

The house was very near to the beach which was the main reason for our booking and we had also stayed at this house in June this year. I did post feedback from that visit which mainly concerned the locks on the doors and windows which all need looking at or replacing. On several occasions we could not close the front door which resulted in us leaving it open when we went out. The other major concern for me was the car parking area which was the drive. This was another reason I had booked here as I know that Sandsend and this road gets very busy in summer and there is no where to park. I did not actually park on the drive as it is very narrow to enter due to the small wall for the bin storage which makes the entry point very small. Because there are no lines on the road cars park right up to the drive way entrance and also on the other side of the road which makes it very difficult to swing round into the drive. This was very disappointing. These were our too major concerns with this property. The property is looking a little tired and could do with a little attention but it is in a lovely spot and has all the basics you would require. We always enjoy Sandsend.

Got everything I need, ideal location, lovely and clean, so near to the sea, lovely garden at the back. Love the style of the house, very homely and familiar. However the only thing that may put me off booking next year is the price, the price went up a lot after COVID and has stayed up, I fear that I may not be able to afford it next year which makes me really sad.

  • "We enjoyed our stay as we had chosen the location to be close to the sea."

As we do a lot of sea sports so have wetsuits and boards we were really pleased the cottage had a hose at the front for showering sand off and that there was access through the side door to the back so we did not go through the main living space in wet and sandy gear. We could also hang the towels on the line to dry. The main concerns were that the parking space was very narrow to enter the drive as the bin store took some of the entry space away. As there are no lines on the road to either side of the drive and opposite, it means that people park either side of the drive entry and opposite so there is not sufficient space to swing in. This could be resolved by either moving bin store and a little bit of wall away or white lines on the road. The other issue is the door and window locks are old and are very hard to use especially the back door which we had to leave open as we could not get it locked. It would be great if the parking could be sorted out. We enjoyed our stay.

The location is excellent near to the beach and facilities of Sandsend. The house itself is terribly dated and in desperate need of upgrading. It really needs new furniture and the beds are like sleeping on cardboard, even the towels are practically threadbare. You get what you pay for does not hold true in this instance as we paid a lot of money to stay there. Sorry to moan but i wouldn’t stay there again.

No details of how to operate tv and dvd, never worked out how to use dvd. A laminated list would work as it could easily be wipe down. Furniture very dated especially in the bedrooms. No double glazing window locks iffy. I wish I had been more thorough reading passed comments before I booked With a little TLC it would be lovely, the garden and position in Sandsend are good. Disappointed especially for the price I paid.

I tried to call the office for reassurance but just got passed from operator to operator and gave up in the end. However, on arrival we found it to be clean, and warm and cozy. We were able to control the temperature using the control on the wall. We had a lovely week there. Cottage was well equipped, however in desperate need of renovation and a good clean! I would expect double glazing for the money but instead got very draughty windows and front door. Cobwebs and dust, so i had to clean on arrival. Bathroom screen very mouldy. Paint applied to rotting window frames and where tiles had been removed in downstairs loo, walls painted over instead of being skimmed first. Didn't feel this cottage met Sykes usual standards and very disappointed despite the sea view!

Customer contact was good whilst we were there but did not sort the issues. Been home two days now and still awaiting a call. The house had a great location and was a wonderful layout with beautiful garden. Unfortunately the whole place was dirty. Stained sheets, cobwebs all over, mould in the fridge, dirty light switches, tables and blinds! Has it not been for the rest of our family staying in two other cottages we would have left in the first day! Disgusting! The toilet seat needs fixing, the step out to the garden is a health hazard as it is rotting, the front door needs a draft excluder as wind howls through it and the bathroom needs re sealing as there is a lot of mould on the sealant! All in all I would never stay here again and am shocked that you list this place in your site as a 4 tick cottage!!

  • "We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Seacliff."

The location of the cottage was absolutely perfect for us. The beach is just down the hill and across the road. Sandsend is a beautiful little coastal village with cafes, a pub and a bistro, all of which I would recommend. The property was clean and spacious, we especially appreciated the enclosed garden, the utility room and it was well equipped with technology and benefitted from a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. I would say the only negative comments we have about this property is the comfort of the furniture, the living room is a cosy room with plenty of chairs/sofa to chose from but unfortunately none of which are comfy to sit on, it would benefit from fewer chairs and 2 comfy sofas. The bedrooms were also spacious but both the double and the twin room that we used had very hard mattresses and this meant both my husband and I had 4 nights of terrible sleep. I would not hesitate to rebook this property if the furniture was updated slightly.

Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
