Hot tub was great. The cottage is clean and tidy. We couldn’t find fault with it. And the enclosed garden was great our dog loved it. The log fire was a beautiful bonus and when lit made the cottage even more comfortable. Beds are very comfortable. Including the beds on the mezzanine Emma and Darren were available but not intrusive at all. Cannot wait to come back to willow lodge

  • "Immaculate cottage in an idyllic and peaceful place."

Friendly and helpful family. Spacious rooms but think a rejig is needed. The mezzanine bedroom is very small due to the apex of the roof, it is dark and we would question its safety. Not suitable for adults and this caused a problem because we were two ladies and one dog. There is enough space downstairs to create two ensuite bedrooms rather than one ensuite bedroom and an attic without an ensuite. We also would not consider putting children of any age up there. We enjoyed our stay, the hot tub is great as well as local eateries, we were made to feel welcome. Refiguring the layout would be an improvement.

Thankyou for your feedback. I’m pleased to hear you found Willow Lodge immaculate and peaceful. We are sorry to read you were not comfortable in the mezzanine, we have had many guests over the years, adults and children, who have stayed in the loft space with no issues. However, comfort is a subjective experience and we can only apologise that this was not to your standards. We must however take umbrage to your comment about safety. The property, including the mezzanine, has been totally approved by building regulations - including safety lighting and fire exit at the base of the stairs. Thank you for your feedback with regard to reconfiguring the layout of the property. We have indeed thought about this one or twice over the six years that the cottage has been open to guests. But to shut down operations for months in order to build a new bedroom and remodel the living room is simply not a viable option for us as business owners. I am sure you understand. As the property stands, we feel that the large main room is a key feature of the barn, many guests comment on its wow factor, and how the room can be comfortably shared as a living and entertainment space with ample room children and pets to play freely. We couldn’t find a fault with it and our Labrador, Buddy was the happiest he’s been at any cottage especially with the flooring inside and the large enclosed garden outside. The cottage was spacious, neat, clean and tidy, well equipped with everything you needed the large bed was so comfortable. Emma and Darren were on hand if you needed them and were knowledgable of the local walks and eateries. We shall definitely be booking to visit here again FABULOUS

  • "Just got back from our weekend break at Willow Lodge and we loved it."

As other people have said the mezzanine is small, but we've just had 2 average size adults stay up there no problem it is lovely and comfortable, just a low ceiling which if you read the reviews you are aware of. The cottage is lovely, clean, private and located so handy for going off places. The hot tub is great, and the secluded garden perfect for our dog (he loved it). We'll be back and would definitely recommend!

  • "Did not know cottage was in owners garden and had people walking back and forth, past windows all time, or owner in the garden doing jobs."

felt a little, uneasy, so had to shut all blinds. Dogs barking, early am, and the second upstairs bedroom only suitable for children really small clostaphobic . Not as private as I thought ,

Thankyou for your feedback. I am sorry to read that you found Willow Lodge not private enough for you. I will therefore put an extra photograph on the website to show guests the rear of the property, unfortunately our garden indeed runs along the back of the lodge. It’s never been a problem with previous guests. We have worked very hard in our planning of the holiday let’s main garden and the hot tub that it is completely private and secure. It’s a large area secure for dogs, and children, with its own private driveway and parking area. The mezzanine bedroom is explained in the description that it does have low ceilings, and is suitable for children only and indeed we have had guests comment that it is cosy and comfortable. I must stress that all my beds have new mattresses along with high quality bedding. We have two labradors, that occasionally bark if they hear something, as we do live on a working farm. I’m sorry you felt us being in our garden was intrusive, we try and maintain it very discreetly, unfortunately it can sometimes only be done when guests are in occupancy, due to the high demand of bookings. Pictures don't do it justice! The place was so cosy and clean. Master bed very comfy! Had everything there you could need. We couldn't resist not using the beautiful log burner on our last night despite it being a hot day/night! Will definitely be back at winter one year as i can imagine how cosy it would be with christmas decorations. The garden and hot tub is beautiful, my dog rosie loved it as very secure and enclosed. The bushes around the hot tub have grown alot since the photos uploaded on here so you get alot more privacy. Can't fault anything, thanks for a lovely stay. My boyfriend also engaged to me whilst we were here :)

  • "This was a lovely cottage in a good location within walking distance of a pub with good food , it was made better with the lovely hot tub which we used every evening!"

The only downside for us personally was the lack of communication, in person, of the owner until we were leaving and the fact that the path from their home to their stables went past all the windows down one side of the cottage which we didn't feel comfortable with as it was used quite a lot. In fairness they had blinds installed for privacy but these made the cottage quite dark.

Many thanks for your feedback. So pleased you enjoyed your stay with us in June and that the hot tub was a great added bonus. I’m so sorry you felt there was a lack of communication with myself. Unfortunately as I said on the morning of your departure I had myself been away all week on holiday. I did indeed send you a message via the Sykes app welcoming you to willow, unfortunately you didn’t respond. We have asked Sykes to reiterate on the description of willow that there is a gravelled driveway to the rear of the property as it does lead to the farm. I’m sorry you felt not comfortable with that. I must add it’s not a driveway that you use for cars it’s a walkway only. Thankyou for taking your time to leave feedback it’s very much appreciated. Property Owner

The Lodge is beautiful and in a lovely village. Great walks, lovely village pubs, just a great base to stay. The main bedroom was lovely with a fab ensuite, great water pressure too so the shower was very good. The bed was soooo comfy, the beds on the mezzanine are tiny and more appropriate for kids, but we knew that area would be tight for adults. The garden is absolutely beautiful and the hot tub was a wonderful way to relax after our walks. We loved our stay and would definitely go back.

The property was well appointed and maintained. The addition of all the garden games was brilliant and the kids enjoyed the Wii. We all used the hot tub and it was a great edition. The upstairs bedroom was comfortable but very low ceilings (lower than we expected) and even my 8 year old hit his head a few times. The fishing spot was pretty and very easy to access - we appreciated the owners proactive approach to organise a fishing spot and the loan of the camping chair. The Main Street of South Cave was a little further to walk than perhaps we had expected but the pub was great. Thanks.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay and your husband enjoyed his fishing, however I am sorry to hear you were disappointed with the low ceilings in the mezzanine bedroom it does state on the property description that the mezzanine bedroom has low ceilings, some children from previous feedback see the bedroom as an adventure. I would definitely come back! my only critiques are the 2nd bedroom is specifically designed for 2 children, so whoever gets the spare room isn't going to have the best sleep in the world, also the toilet is near the front door so if your in the spare room and need the toilet you have to go down the stairs and through the living room, kitchen and porchway so its a bit inconvenient. I think if we hadn't of had the master bedroom me and my partner would not have enjoyed it as much. overall for 4 adults id give it a 7.5/10 for 2 adults 2 children id say 9/10

  • "We had an amazing stay at Willow Lodge!"

What a great place. Lovely setting, great hot tub and gorgeous, big, enclosed garden which was brilliant for our 2 and 5 year olds. They loved kicking a ball around, playing in the tree house and generally messing about. Emma had thought of everything (we packed heavy with toys but really didn't need to - there were books, lego, computer games, footballs etc). We were lucky to have gorgeous weather, but I can imagine it'd be great to stay in winter too - the lodge is so cosy and although we didn't use it, there is a fabulous log fire and our 5 year old was very excited to sleep on the mezzanine which was really cosy too. The welcome pack was brilliant, with milk in the fridge too and plenty of tea and coffee (there's a big supermarket about ten minutes drive away). There was also a birthday card and present for our (now) 2 year old which was lovely and much appreciated. Although I've focussed on the family experience, we'd happily stay here just as a couple. We will definitely be back!

We both work very long hours and this was definitely something that we both needed. On arrival we could see that the place was very nicely kept, and inside as well as outside was spotless. The spacing of the place vastly exceeded our expectations, and even though the place was so big it felt extremely cosy. We spent most of the time either in a hot tub or by the fireplace just relaxing and forgetting about all the worry's that did not matter at the moment. If you look for a quiet getaway, this is definitely a spot I would suggest for anyone. It won't be too long until we are back to recharge our batteries and have some peace and quiet from the rushed world around us. My most sincere gratitude to owners of the place for going that little extra mile and leaving a chocolate with a happy birthday wish on it - it didn't go unnoticed.

The owners had thought of everything to make our stay very pleasant. They had left toys for our boy, plenty of day out ideas/leaflets, wood for the log burner, welcome goodies for us all including myself for my birthday. I had only told Kirsty (the operator) once on the phone so that was nice that she had obviously passed on this information and attention to detail was made at the property. The hot tub was all ready prior to our visit the very same day. Even our sons mattress in the travel cot was comfortable. We had a very pleasant stay and experience using Sykes cottages for the first time. We’ll definitely visit the lodge again and be using Sykes cottages. Thank you both very much.
