  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the farmhouse, last year we stayed in the big house and enjoyed that too."

The property is very cosy and comfortable but there were a couple of little niggles: It was not as clean as it could be on arrival, with breadcrumbs on the kitchen table and the toilet in the en suite not flushed properly and cleaned, the range was too dirty to use, amongst other minor things. There are also a few maintenance issues, the wash basin in the main bathroom is not on the plinth properly, the toilet seat downstairs is not secured properly, a small leak from the en suite shower dripped down the beam in the lounge. The extractor fan in the en suite was turned off and too high to reach to switch on. The toilet in the main bathroom is very noisy on flushing and there were lights not working on the stairway. Some areas of the carpet is not secured causing a trip hazard. More towels and cups (some cups were too stained to use) would have been appreciated. Much of this sounds negative but they are mostly easy fixes and we want the owners to be aware. Overall our stay was very relaxing and comfortable.

  • "Very nice large farm cottage, and the only problem we encountered was the batteries for the tv remote were flat and I had to purchase new ones."

The cottage was very comfortable and is in an ideal location for the Yorkshire Dales and also the coastal towns. Walked to the Royal Oak at nearby Gillamoor, a nice stroll of just under 15 minutes, and enjoyed 2 excellent dinners there. Would love to visit the Cottage again at some future time.

  • "On reading the comments of the last guests on our way to the cottage we were very concerned."

However we found it to be warm and comfortable, the kitchen was well equipped. The mattresses were firm which we like although our son did also use the duvet from one of the single beds to lie on. The oven did need a wipe over and one of the baking trays had congealed fat on from bacon being cooked by a previous guest but this was easily sorted out. The woodwork and radiators do need a good wipe over. A couple of bulbs need replacing ie the spot light in the main bedroom and in the hallway downstairs. We enjoyed a cuppa and biscuits in the conservatory. Overall we had a lovely stay in an old cottage full of character in a peaceful location.

  • "We had an awful time at the accommodation."

The place was absolutely filthy. The kitchen had hardly any crockery or pans and I had to thoroughly clean it before we could use it. I booked the accommodation for me and my husband, my daughter and son in law and my two grandchildren on the basis that it had a large enclosed rear garden. The rear garden was so overgrown it was not possible to use it. The outdoor furniture was rusty and had sharp bits sticking out so we were unable to use that as well. The rear patio area was full of weeds and the furniture covered in moss. There is an open barn at the rear of the property which has equipment in it and is a danger to children. There was no key for the porch door so we were unable to lock it and the conservatory door at the side of the house has a broken lock so we were unable to lock that as well so the property was not secure. The toilet flush barely worked and the bathrooms were filthy. The bedding smelled awful so I had to purchase new to be able to sleep in the bedrooms. The beds were old and smelly and the mattresses were rock hard and my bed had springs sticking out of it. There was no hoover or cleaning materials in the property. This property is not fit to be let and you have the audacity to charge 1150 per week. Then to top it off a viewing was arranged for the property whilst we were there. The property is up for sale and it is very clear to me that no one is now looking after it. I would like a refund. We had to leave the property on the Friday as we just wanted to go home. This holiday was supposed to be a treat for my daughter and it ended up being an ordeal. Yes please publish this and do not let another poor family go through what we have just experienced.

  • "North Farm Cottage was everything that was described in the listing."

The property was spacious and comfortable. Once we had worked out how the kitchen appliances worked (instructions could be easier) everything was fine. The lounge was a good place to relax after a day exploring the North Yorkshire Moors area. The pub in the nearby village of Gillamoor was superb and we can highly recommend the takeaway in Kirkbymoorside. The beds are very firm and here you can see the character of the property in the uneven creaking floorboards. Overall a great place to stay for the moors, historic houses and gardens, and local towns.

  • "I thought I was booking a cosy cottage with an ensuite and log fire for my partners birthday surprise."

However when we arrived the ensuite toilet wasn't working, the ensuite shower makes a high pitch scream when in use. The master bedroom bed is so hard its like sleeping on the floor. The towels were old, hard and like sandpaper. The downstairs toilet works now and then so you had to keep going upstairs to use the only working toilet. There was no starter pack for the log fire. The conservatory windows are all shot so you cannot see out. The garden is all overgrown with grass to knee height, the decking is in need of a jet wash. I spend everyday of my stay trying to report me issues. A starter pack for the fire did arrive on day 2 but with no fire lighters or heat protective glove so we still couldn't use it. In the end we left a day early as we would be more comfortable at home, a holiday is supposed to be better and a treat not a compromise and make do! The property is not run by the owners but a property manager who doesn't respond to your calls. This could be an amazing place if there was just a little care put into it, the location is beautiful. I am still awaiting the outcome of my daily calls from Sykes.

  • "Just a few small details are needed we have been going to the farmhouse for several years now it’s a lovely winter break but there are a few things now need updating."

The toilet in the farmhouse downstairs not working well there was a toilet brush left in there with toilet roll tissue all in the brush not very pleasant to see or use. The towels were very hard and old they have been there for years. We were looking forward to the wood burner we were left with one small box of wood there was about three small brickets a small handful of kindling a box of matches if we had have know it was there it might have lasted for about two hours there was also no paper to light the fire with. There used to be a shed full of wood we were told that it was getting stolen from shed if it was it could be locked in another shed. It just didn’t have that little bit of extre care that Nicola and her husband used to do they used to put up a Christmas tree which really made it a treat. This has not put us off going back but if you could look at small things and the wood burner it would be good.

  • "Outstanding property in a beautiful location in the Yorkshire Moors."

This property was ideal for our extended family to stop in while we holidayed in Yorkshire and was a superb base to explore from. The property was in immaculate condition with everything required provided. Multiple private spaces was also a bonus and the garden was ideal for our children to play in. All in all, an excellent property and we look forward to stopping here again in the future.

  • "Enjoyed everything about our stay."

The farmhouse was in a lovely quiet location, very spacious and had everything we needed whilst retaining its character. Although the weather wasn’t suitable this time, we would enjoy returning and using the garden & picnic table. We appreciated the coffee, milk, biscuits & washing up lliquid. Although minor things, they make a big difference and a great welcome when arriving at a holiday cottage.

  • "We had an enjoyable week at 'The Farmhouse' on the whole, but with a few minor caveats."

In terms of positives: -The farmhouse was nice and spacious -Directions were a breeze with the 'What3Words' reference (excellent idea!) -There was milk in the fridge on arrival -Loo roll, dishwasher tablets, tin foil, washing up liquid - all provided! -A selection of toys and books (which the kids loved!) -The bed linen was nice and clean and the en-suite and bathroom seemed clean -Nice sized bath -Decent flow rate on the shower -Lots of radiators -Nice sized TV with good freeview channel reception -Internet Access -Internet and DAB enabled Kitchen Radio -Flexibility in booking (we wanted Sunday to Sunday and it was fantastic we could be accomodated) -Didn't see the owners (we like to keep ourselves to ourselves and appreciated the privacy!) -We tested the fire alarm briefly and it beeped which was reassuring -Parking right in front of the house -Great location - quiet, but amenities only a few miles away In terms of not-so-positives (some which can be addressed for the next visitors): -The Kitchen could be cleaner. Lots of things felt sticky to the touch, like someone had been frying food and a thin film of stickiness pervaded. Some of the cupboard doors need a scrub. - The crockery and cutlery was at times dirty - not just dishwasher water-marked, but actually 'bits of food attached' dirty. We felt we needed to check every item we used and had to wash several items before we could use them -2x of the Toaster Slots do not work -The Kettle had thick layers of limescale - we cleaned this with water and swirling and emptying -Dog hairs all over the floor. We've 2x small children that like to play on the floor space. Whilst they're not allergic, we found that their clothes and toys seemed to get a layer of dog hairs regularly. Hopefully a deeper vacuuming will sort this. -The 'main' radiator in the living room (next to the TV) doesn't get very warm - I think it needs bleeding -The TV was sometimes temperamental and wouldn't respond to key presses until switched off and on again -The TV remote batteries said 'very low' on screen repeatedly - though we remedied this by swapping the main TV remote with the DVD player remote batteries. However, all batteries should be checked. -The Towels are pretty small in size and it'd be nice if they were swapped out with larger towels. -The seals in the glass of the Sun Room's windows have gone and need replacing. As it was fairly cold (March) we didn't sit out there of an evening, but had we wanted to, the streaky glass was a bit of an eyesore. -The floors are quite creaky (it's an old house, not a complaint, more an observation). -The fan in the ensuite (above the door) seemed to be off - this should be tested and switched on to avoid condensation/mould -There weren't any spare bin liners. We creatively managed to use the bathroom ones as main-bins later into our stay. -There's a switch by the front door for the heating which has 'leave on' or something written on it a bit faded. I'd suggest a bit of orange tape or something to make it clearer/more obvious In summary, we enjoyed our stay, and a few small bits of TLC could make it much more comfortable for future stays. We wouldn't fall over ourselves to stay there again, but likewise, we've no reason to suggest to avoid it. All in all the comfort to price ratio was about right.
