  • "I have stayed here before and it lived up to expectations."

I suspect they may have changed the matress since my last visit as it was a little firm for my liking but that is preference! I would like to stay again if parking issues were dealt with . The spaces outside are being used by the pharmacy and gymn staff!

  • "The holiday started on a bad not as after a long tiring journey the reception on the site told us we weren’t entitled to the leisure pass we’d been promised."

After a few conversations and contact with Sykes we eventually got the pass which we used everyday. The flat was well equipped for a short stay and was a stones throw from the leisure centre and pub which was very handy. The furniture and bed was very comfortable and we slept well for the whole week. Our little Frenchy Leo loved the area and enjoyed his many walks to the lovely nearby beach. Another problem in the flat was that the dining table was too wobbly to use but again a quick phone call and this was sorted within a couple of days. We enjoy touring the area and visited the three local resorts of Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough. We found parking a bit of a pain as some car parks are cash only or an app called Ringo which we didn’t have and trying to load it on 4g was a pain. If you like pies we highly recommend the local dog friendly Piebald Inn which is a real ale pub and has a massive range of pies to choose from but make sure you are hungry as the portions are very large. All in all we had a lovely time at Sunny Bay which we highly recommend as we would definitely book it again.

Only issue is the cleanliness, it was clean but not too a standard; the skirting boards were full of dust, clumps of dust and dog hair behind the sofa, cobwebs on the floor in the corner to the bathtub. Attention to detail when cleaning and the place would be 100%. Have recommended the place as it doesn’t affect the stay etc.

Comfortable facilities with everything we needed. A comfortable bed and soft towels, plenty of hot water and close to the amenities. We had a great time, the only thing we struggled with was the WIFI signal, but I believe it can be temperamental in the area, so no fault of the owner.

The apartment was as described with everything that you would need, such as a washing machine, dishwasher and very comfortable surroundings with the added extras of tea and coffee and cleaning products. The “village” was well cared for with all grass cut and roads and outside areas clean and tidy. The nice touch for us was Caroline and Andy texting us with their personal number in case of emergency, a nice touch. Surrounding area was fabulous, something for everyone, walks, beaches and much more. Loved our stay and would definitely recommend. Thank you. Christine and Andy

  • "The apartment was well equipped, spacious for a couple."

The bathroom was good and the hot water was great. The cleanliness of apartment could have been better, lots of dust and the communal hallway had a musty smell. Although there was a notice in the apartment saying extra cleaning had been in place due to covid-19 and the remote controls, hairdryer etc had been sterilise and placed in plastic bags they had not! We brought our own bedding and towels, the bed was not very comfortable but we expected that. The juliet balcony was nice for the late afternoon sun however the occupants below often had a cigarette at their outside table so this filled our bedroom with cigarette smoke. The site was very good, the pub was just across the road, we did use the pub a couple of times but we did not like how many dogs there was in the dining area, people feeding them at the table! We saw one cock its leg on the wall and nobody bothered but we are not dog people. We thought that the apartment was OK but was expensive and the cleanliness let it down, the site was good and it's an ideal base to explore the Yorkshire coast. We would go again but would do more research.

  • "The apartment was in a good location, close to amenities and beach."

It was exactly as advertised and we were happy with it, on the whole. The bay it’s self it’s fantastic with a gorgeous dog friendly beach 10 minutes walk away. Positives: Dog friendly Close to amenities As described WiFi worked well Nice views of courtyard from bedroom windows Negatives: There was a couple of areas which we felt let down the property, for example there was only around a quarter of a toilet roll in the bathroom, with no additional rolls provide. Firstly we didn’t feel this was hygienic (From a COVID perspective) as it was obviously left by the previous occupants who would have touched it, and it’s not as though it could have been sanitised afterwards. It was also inconvenient as there is no shop onsite. Also, there was only about 2 ‘squirts’ worth of liquid soap in the bathroom. Again this isn’t great especially at the moment when we’re all so keen to wash hands more often. We did pack hand sanitizer so it wasn’t a massive issue but again, it’s just the details that make you wonder what else has been missed. The fridge was extremely noisy, it seems like the fan isn’t working correctly and there was a constant and fairly loud hum. We were only there for 2 nights so didn’t bother us too much, but it probably would be annoying if staying for longer. We would definitely return to the bay, but we’d likely chose a different property next time around.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. A real gem on the Yorkshire coast. A fishing town on the North East Coast, Filey has enjoyed a reputation of being a resort since Victorian times, set beside the magnificent Filey Bay, a long stretch of beautiful sand, with Filey Brigg and its shallow rockpools to the north. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. Gannets, kittiwakes, puffins, guillimots and razorbills all nest there. Gannets are regularly seen diving for fish in Filey Bay. The Brigg area is an ideal place to watch for common and rarer waders, seabirds and migrating warblers, finches and thrushes. As well as seabirds, seals and other marine life, such as porpoises dolphins and minke whales can be seen in the sea around the Brigg. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels. There is a small coble landing, a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated, crazy golf and candy floss. Also in Filey there is the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where common and rare waders and wildfowl can be seen as well as autumn gatherings of swallows, sand martins and house martins. Also there is Parish Wood (just off Sycamore Avenue) an unexpected gem that offers a wealth of wildlife. Willow warbler, chiffchaff, blackcap and tree sparrows breed there and a wide variety of other species are regularly seen such as great spotted woodpeckers and sparrow hawks. Parish Wood also provides shelter and food for a wide range of migrant bird species such as goldcrests, pied and spotted flycatchers, warblers, finches, thrushes and woodcocks. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where for family fun you can visit the Alpamare Waterpark, a waterpark unlike anything the UK has ever seen before, as well as plenty to explore and discover in this lovely area.
