  • "Lovely house to stay in for a holiday, comfortable & clean apart from the settee which made a noise each time we sat on it & was a little worried it would collapse, also needs a good clean in between the cushions."

A great place to explore the amazing scenery.

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted to hear that you thought our cottage was lovely and you had a nice holiday. We work hard to provide an enjoyable and comfortable stay so thank you for the note re the settee which we will look into and speak to the manufacturer if necessary as disappointingly this is less than 12 months old! Thank you for your valuable custom and we hope to welcome you back again to Buck Place again in the future. Kind regards, Sharon & Peter Property Owner

  • "We loved Buck Place and stay every year."

It’s in a lovely area, with great dog friendly beaches and pubs. The on-site pub has had some negative reviews, but we gave it another try and was surprisingly pleased, best it’s been since pre Covid. It’s a Shame the on-site pizza place is never open, we wish it would go back to a cafe. The on-site shop has everything you need at reasonable prices. We didn’t have a free swim or use the gym this time. The cottage is a great place to kick back and relax, which is what this week was all about. The cottage is so lovely, comfortable and clean, it’s a great place to rewind and chill out. Not sure why the sofa was making mechanical groaning noises, but it still seemed comfortable!!! Maybe it’s a sofa bed? It wasn’t really BBQ weather so we didn’t use it on this occasion. The patio table and chairs are wooden and the chairs aren’t the most comfortable for relaxing on, they probably need an upgrade(although perfectly stable- just uncomfortable). So we sat several times reading in the master bedroom on two lovely clear plastic chairs with the Juliet Balcony doors open soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the breeze. There was a little welcome pack, with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and a tennis ball for the dog, those are the simple things that make you smile when you arrive so another big thank you to Sharon and Pete. We’ll be booking again.

Hi Sarah, thank you so much for your lovely feedback. When life is so busy we always appreciate the time guests take to write a review and we are pleased you had another enjoyable stay! We have noted the noise with the sofa and it appears a spring is loose so we have the furniture repair booked in next week. Also there should be cushions for the patio chairs in the utility cupboard under the stairs, otherwise you’re right, the wooden chairs aren’t too comfy without them. I’ll double check this with the maintenance team though. We look forward to welcoming you back again and thank you so much for your continued support and custom. Kind regards, Sharon & Pete Property Owner

This is advertised as 5star, however it would benifit from a new duvet and pillows, and a mattress protecter that fits and pillow protecters for all pillows. also some better lighting to read by. Housekeeping had left a very dirty oven and grillpan also a broken mug. The hot water was excellent and heating very efficient ,sadly having slipped in the bath we would not book again.

Dear Joan, thank you for your valued feedback. Our cottage is advertised as a 2 storey property with internal photographs and providing a detailed description including property facilities/set up and layout, to allow guests to make an informed decision about the suitability of the property, ahead of guests booking. We pride ourselves on the quality and standards of our fixtures and fittings and receive excellent feedback about this, including the additional touches including complimentary welcome tray on arrival. We regularly update and replace soft furnishings including bedding. We will liaise with our cleaning team regarding the pillow protectors as these are new and may have been removed with the bedding/pillowcases by mistake on the last changeover. We also note the kitchen items which is disappointing to hear and this will be fed back to our cleaning company. We sincerely apologise for any items broken or unclean. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention so we can rectify this as we do rely on being notified of these things and we thank you for this. We are delighted to hear that other than the items mentioned you had an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Kind regards Sharon & Peter Property Owner

This time we bought along our elderly parents aged 85 and 87 and they loved it, they felt that it was home from home. There is no shortage of anything that you need and everything works well and effectively. The house was beautiful, warm and well maintained. The welcome tray was great and Gaffer (westie) loved his ball.

Dear Jayne, thank you for this lovely feedback and for your repeat custom, which means the world to us. We try hard to make our cottage a home from home and are always thrilled to receive positive feedback. Delighted that Gaffer loved his ball too :-) we always love to hear of our four legged friends having a great time too! • "We had a great week at Buck Place, and felt right at home."

We made good use of the on-site facilities, too! Overall the property is done to a very high standard, and is very comfortable and with some nice touches like the games and books supplied. Although it was clear the property had been cleaned well between guests, it’s in need of a deep clean - such as around the back of things, in corners etc. A few more glasses & mugs would be handy, we found we needed to run the dishwasher more often as we’d run out of things - and not having any washing up liquid was a bit irritating too. These are minor niggles and didn’t detract from the quality of our stay, but could make someone else’s stay even better!

Dear Katie, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent stay at our little cottage by the sea last month. It is always lovely to hear when guests have enjoyed their stay and thank you for the points made too. We will certainly feed back to our cleaning contractors and will look to add more cups and glasses, there has always been a plentiful supply however we appreciate some may get damaged and removed. We do provide washing up liquid and hand soaps too however we cannot guarantee these are always left between guests, but again will consider how we can ensure supplies in future. Thank you once again, as small business owners your custom and positive feedback is so important to us, thank you. Kind regards, Sharon & Peter Property Owner

Cost £450 no live tv due to the tv mast burning down 14 months ago. They knew and didn't tell us about neither in the advert nor in person. Both owner and sykes tried to dismiss it as unfortunate. Sykes have refused to refund us. We are in the process of taking sykescottages to small claims court.

As owners we pride ourselves on the excellent reviews and ratings we receive from our valued guests. It is disappointing to read this feedback which is both misleading and incorrect. The signal issue was not due to the mast damage 14 months ago. This was a temporary interruption due to adverse weather and local area broadcast issues. We did not know about this in advance, it was unforeseen and previous guests directly before you had not reported any issue. We did offer you a solution given our property has a smart TV offering live television and other channels which is accessed via our free Wifi which meant there would have been no disruption to yourselves if you had utilised this. Sykes Cottages and ourselves were quick to respond, support, apologise and offer a full resolution given the smart tv, however you chose to leave of your own accord. We feel your approach with all throughout was somewhat unfair and unreasonable. Property Owner

Stayed for a week, with our dog. The addition of a shop this year was very welcome and over due. Reasonably priced and had everything you might need, although Tesco and Sainsbury’s do deliver to the site. Great for dogs as the beach is dog friendly and the site has lots of poo bins. The site is always clean and communal gardens well maintained. Parking is good and the bonus of this cottage was that it was right outside the front of the property on sleepers. We’ve stayed in different properties every visit and this was by far the nicest. We loved the bifold doors onto a small patio area with a table and 4 chairs. We used the BBQ and although brought our own charcoal etc- this had been provided which was a lovely bonus. The extra toilet downstairs was a bonus too. The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of pans, baking trays, utensils and crockery, unlike some of the other properties we’ve stayed in. This one even provided oven gloves and tea towels. The large fridge freezer was fabulous but I’m still baffled by the lack of a cupboard to store the rest of your food - but every property at The Bay is like it. The cottage was also the cleanest we’ve stayed at on the site. The cottage is decorated in a modern style. The king size bed in the master bedroom was comfortable but for someone with a bad back a little too soft. Full-size single beds in the twin bedroom is great when it’s an all adult party. The bed linens were all crisp white and the towels were huge and soft and lovely. Best cottage, would highly recommend, would definitely stay again, only down side is the huge price increase for next year, but I guess you have to pay for the extra comforts.

Filey Museum is a past winner of Discover Yorkshire Coast’s Small Attraction of the Year award, is housed in a building dating from 1696, and is crammed with fascinating memorabilia, including an extensive photographic archive. Dalby Forest is an excellent choice for cyclists, where they can enjoy a challenge at Dalby Forest, or perhaps follow some of the Tour De Yorkshire route and tackle the famous Cote De Harwood Dale or just pedal village to village along the idyllic country roads of the nearby Wolds and admire the views made famous by leading artist David Hockney. Bird lovers will love the nature reserve at Bempton Cliffs to see the 250,000 guillemots, gannets and puffins who flock there to raise their young between April and August. It is a haven for birds and animals, including an important colony of great-crested newts and has an interesting Visitor Centre. Scarborough is 20 minutes north of Filey where theatre goers can enjoy the world premieres of Alan Ayckbourn plays plus Scarborough Open Air Theatre attracts many world-class artists – recent concerts have included Britney Spears, The Beach Boys, Little Mix and Tom Jones!
