Very well equipped and comfortable. Great location for the trains etc. parking wasn’t a problem but guess it could be. Interesting watching the river rise. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Not a complaint but hated the vacuum cleaner which just didn’t work well particularly with dog hair ! Recommend a Shark!! Hope to be back.

  • "We felt that the cottage had been nicely set up but have to agree with previous reviews about the seating in the lounge area."

The leather settee and armchair seemed too big and cumbersome for the room and we found them too low and uncomfortable. The heating was not set to the temperature stated in the information pack but being familiar with hive we were able to adjust this to suit us. The parking was awkward as detailed in the description but more detail on exactly where to park would have been helpful, luckily the neighbours were very helpful and accomodating. Additionally, if the shrubbery overhanging the wall opposite were cut back it might have reduced the amount of bird mess on our car. The location was great for access to the train station both the NYMR (heritage steam railway) and Northern Line (unfortunately closed for maintenance during our stay) and in easy reach of Whitby Park and Ride (highly recommended for visiting Whitby).

  • "A beautiful stay!"

We took our two year old son who loves trains, and made memories to last forever! The noise of the river at night made for a perfect sleep, and I can’t wait to return again one day. The cottage may not look much from the outside, but it is spacious inside. Would highly recommend.

  • "We had an amazing stay here at Esk View."

The cottage was so clean, quiet and comfortable, very light and airy, and the river views and sounds were wonderful. The rocking chair in front of the patio doors overlooking the river was a highlight for the kids. We would have benefitted from a clothes airer. We did use the washer dryer but being a family of 4 in hot weather the airer would have been really useful. We also weren't really sure what to do (if anything) with the bins. We made good use of the NYMR, the cottage is literally a minutes walk from Grosmont Station, which was perfect. The parking was a little tricky but manageable, but we only used it twice during the whole week so wasn't an issue. Brilliant stay, we really didn't want to go home and would love to come back. Highly recommended. Thanks the owners and the cleaning staff who clearly look after the property so well.

Arrived late tea time (6:30pm) due to work commitments, the cottage was very cold and took an age to warm up, no hot water till 9:30pm. TV would not work due to ‘antenna’ not connected. Contacted Yorkshire coastal cottages Saturday morning who rectified within a few hours. The cottage is beautiful, a little tired looking and in need of a coat of paint in places, particularly downstairs, that said we had a lovely break. Lots of fabulous places to explore, the cottage is ideally located.

  • "This was an amazing place to stay."

I stayed with my four year old grandson and my husky. Gorgeous and had everything we could possibly need inside the cottage. The only thing we could’ve had that would’ve made our stay 100% was a hose outside at the tap. As the walk from grosmont to goathland has horrid black shale and due to rain and sleet my once white and grey husky was black and filthy. Outside tap was great idea shame wasn’t a hose to do his belly and legs before entering cottage. Views out the windows of the river where beautiful I would definitely stay again. So peaceful. But as it’s a dog friendly place definitely a little hose outside would be a fabulous addition. This place is amazing fantastic walks in the area.

Thank you for your lovely comments, we are so pleased you had a lovely stay at our cottage and will look forward to welcoming you back again. We will definitely be addressing the hose issue and will fit one as soon as possible, much appreciated suggestion, thank you Sharon & Craig Property Owner

It was very nicely decorated, comfortable and clean, with a lovely river view. We really prefer an enclosed garden for our dog, but we did realise the property was without that when we booked. Although I can’t fault the cottage as such I wouldn’t say that it’s really suitable for a long stay as a family of 4. If you wanted to eat out a lot then it would be fine, we could have done with a few more bowls, plates, pots and pans etc. We had to buy kitchen ‘extras’ - cling film, tinfoil (which we left for the next visitors) salt and pepper etc. Maybe these things were missing due to Covid and trying to keep things safe for other people. I would go and stay at the cottage again however I think it was a little over priced.

Thank you for your comments. We have kept crockery and supplies to the essentials due to covid to keep our cottage as safe as possible for guests. We have, however, increased the crockery. We look forward to welcoming you back, thank you Property Owner

Our main criticism was that lack of any logs for the fire on arrival. For nearly £700 for 4 nights a £5 bag of logs to start off wouldn’t be much to ask! The property was well equipped but would benefit from the addition of a salt and pepper set and a toast rack The dishwasher needed rinse aid and we weren’t about to rush out and buy that! The towel rail in the bathroom didn’t work. A nice peaceful location right in the river in a lovely village, nice walks and the wonderful trains.

The glazed dining area with views over the river and steam railway viaduct is really the highlight of this property. We were able to watch kingfishers at breakfast! Kitchen is well appointed, though it would be useful to have a bit more crockery (only 4No of each item provided) and more than one chopping board. Property was generally well cleaned. However there was quite a bit of dog hair on the living room carpet. Also, carpet in bathroom is never a good idea.

Our only negative comments concerning the cottage were the lack of any drying equipment (hairdryer, fan heater), and lack of any microwave suitable containers. Also, the reversing of our car down the narrow lane was a challenge - hence 'Facilities' rating above. Also ,no mention of bedding or towels in listing - hence 'Accuracy' rating above. • "Parking and access is not mentioned but is not easy."

Don’t bring a big car or attempt to park close if you are not confident at reversing. There is also a very rude man at no.11 who does not help and seems to dislike visitors. The helpful neighbours next door told us we could use the NYMR car park overnight but strictly speaking we shouldn’t have. Access is not great on foot from the Main Street if you are not steady on your feet and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone who isn’t. The promised welcome pack was not provided. But...the house is very comfortable and the position overlooking the river really good, also excellent for train spotters! Overall would recommend but perhaps a more full description of access would be helpful.

Firstly, may I apologise for not replying to you sooner. We appreciate that the parking isn’t the easiest but didn’t think to mention that, we have now addressed this and give clear information regarding the parking on the website, thank you for your input. We are sorry for the bad experience you had with a neighbour, this has never happened before and obviously out of our control. I hope the helpful neighbours on the other side made up for this? Regarding the access by foot to the main street, I agree that the cut through access nearest to the cottage is quite steep and cobbled, however, there is another way just 1 minute further which I believe is a gentle, easily manageable walk for all ages and abilities. Unfortunately the welcome packs have not been provided due to covid-19 for the safety of staff and guests. I apologise if you were not made aware of this. The cost of the welcome pack is fully met by the cottage owner and is not added to the price of your holiday. I am pleased to hear, that although you experienced a few issues, you enjoyed the cottage itself and would recommend it to others. Many thanks Sharon & Craig, Esk View owners Property Owner
