• "We have had a lovely week here in Grosmont with some spectacular view of the River Esk."

  From hikes to beach days, these will be days we won't forget in a hurry. I would highly recommend trips to Goathland, Filey, and Robin Hoods Bay for some fantastic views of nature. After those long days we always knew we were coming back to a comfortable cottage here in grosmont. Thank you very much for a lovely stay here in Yorkshire.

• "Liked the property even with the awkward parking arrangement."

  Two difficulties : I wanted to use the electric charging point. This necessitated a phone call and, with difficulty' access to the internal on switch. No instructions and a very awkward arrangement. The electric radiator control was very fiddly and the instructions were of no use. I did eventually manage to use the controller (not switched on until I did so) to increase the temperature in the lounge to a comfort level. We did not want the fuss of using the wood burner. The radiators in the bedrooms never came on and I could not see how to adjust them although we did not need them which was just as well. The absence of simple heating controls was a definite negative.

  I am sorry to hear that you had such difficulties with the car charging point and with the heating controls, The charging point is normally only switched on by request to avoid misuse as the service is provided at no extra cost. The heating controls should be straightforward but again you are welcome to phone if you have any issues. I think what you switched on was not the radiator but the additional underfloor heating downstairs which is normally only used in extremely cold weather. I hope the problems you had did not spoil your holiday. Property Owner

  Fantastic stay here in the cottage. We had everything and more we needed., it was like a home from home. We will definitely be telling everyone about this place and would love to stay here again!

• "It can appear lazy to give a five-star review, but in this case we found nothing to fault."

  The location was great - overlooking the river tumbling over rocks, and only yards from the stone bridge carrying the steam railway between Whitby and Pilkington, with Grosmont Station just two minutes' walk away. Riverbank View itself was spotlessly clean on our arrival. It was comfortable to be there, with everything easy to use (no lengthy instructions for anything we wanted to use!). For those of us who like to prepare the occasional meal, it was welcome to see we were trusted with sharp knives, a rarity in our holiday accommodation experience. We've stayed at several holiday cottages - this was among the best.

• "We both had a wonderful stay at the cottage!"

  What a stunning location. It was so peaceful listening to the flow of the river outside. Cottage was well presented and had everything we needed for our stay. The log Fire was a wonderful touch and very cosy. This place is an amazing location to stay if you love trains(and my husband does) he spent a lot of time on the balcony making videos and photos of them as they went by on the bridge

• "Fabulous location, very relaxing stay, the cottage had everything you could wish for, loved the river sound, very relaxing to sleep to."

  The co-op shop was very handy and the local pub was great. Wonderful location to explore from, especially Beck hole and Goathland. Only negative, bed mattress was rather hard but still managed to sleep well.

• "River view is a lovely property, tasteful decor and excellent location."

  It was such a shame that - We carefully follows instructions for radiators but couldn’t get any radiators working. The bathroom door would not fasten and even when the door was pushed it swung open, which was very inconvenient. We both tried to get shower to work but we could not. It was stuck. So we had no shower. So these problems were very inconvenient during our stay.

  I am sorry to hear that you had a few problems. In such a situation it is probably worth contacting Yorkshire Coastal Cottages for help, We have checked the radiators and they are working properly as is the shower. The bathroom door needs to have the bolt fastened to stay shut otherwise as you say it can swing open. I hope these issues did not spoil your stay too much. Property Owner

• "We had a lovely break away in Riverbank View and managed to avoid the heatwave by being a bit further North in the country."

  The cottage is equipped with pretty much everything you could need for a cosy stay and the lovely river view was the icing on the cake. The village is lovely and we enjoyed waving to the passengers on the steam train as it went past. We did the steam train journey ourselves which was pleasant but hugely expensive (£58 for 4 of us to go to the next stop, 3 miles away!). We had a pleasant stop in the coffee shop at 'Hogsmeade Station'. We visited Whitby and Scarborough (which I wouldn't return to) but we loved Filey and Robin Hood Bay, which were both very nice. We recommend the Witching Post Inn in Egton, a couple of miles away for a really lovely meal and great hospitality. The only negative is that none of us found the beds comfy at all as they were very hard so I don't think 3 out of the 4 of us had a decents nights sleep - however, that's a personal thing and you might not have the same issue as us! Very quiet, well-equipped and a good base to explore the local area (and the EV charger was an excellent bonus).

• "We both enjoyed our stay at Riverside Cottage."

  So Peaceful and tranquil. Just what we both needed, we had everything we could have wished for and more. Well equipped, comfortable, clean and cosy. The balcony with the River Esk was just the icing on the cake. We really enjoyed it, a real gem to say the least. I will definitely be coming back here.

• "A great property, love the balcony and view."

  Everything we needed. Had a great week watching the trains crossing the bridge, waving to the drivers. Lovely walks to Goathland and Egton Bridge and the Waterfall. A good idea to get your train pass for 12 months at the start of your holiday, as it can get very expensive going to Whitby, then Pickering on a different day. A blind or net curtain would give it more privacy in the living room. We love Grosmont. It was our 2nd visit and we will be back!

• "Loved the property."

  We had a very comfortable stay. Some local info would be good for newbies to the area. A blind or nets would give the front of the property more privacy, a slotted spoon and dustpan and brush would help. We had a problem closing the key safe and couldn’t get a reply over the phone for advice on this. Will defo consider this property again for future visits to the area.

• "A lovely, comfortable cottage, in an excellent location."

  The balcony is a bonus, could sit out in the sunshine watching the birds and ducks on the river. Had everything we needed for a short stay. Great to have a parking space, where parking is in short supply. Would certainly stay again.

• "Generally quite good."

  The property was quite cold and the electric heaters were difficult to understand their operation. Disappointed that there was no logs or kindling for the fire even though this was an advertised as a feature .

  We are sorry that you had difficulty with the electric heaters. The logs and kindling is supplied during the winter months, sadly we were not expecting the weather to be so inclement. We hope this didn't spoil your stay too much. Property Owner

• "A stunning little cottage with the most amazing view of the balcony of the river and steam trains passing by!"

  (Even caught a glimpse of a herd of deer, lots of stoats and plenty of birds!) The cottage was clean, well layed out, spacious and well equip! We cannot thank you enough for creating this beautiful space for people to stay in! We loved the small touches like the welcome hamper of biscuits and crisps and my partner and I couldn’t stop using the lazy boy sofa ! The kitchen has everything you need and more. The local area is also beautiful. A 30 second walk to Grosmont station and a local pub and a stunning hours hike to Goathland which we did 2 days in a row! Highly recommend the inn on the moor. Reasonably priced and gorgeous food! The beds are a little hard to sleep on but other than that everything was so perfect. We have already recommended to so many friends and family and will absolutely be returning! (Could also do with a pen to write in the guest book) Thank you again!

• "We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage- loved the sound of the river, the locomotives chugging over the bridge and were able to enjoy this beautiful part of the world!"

  One minor point: maybe worth noting to guest that the hot bath water runs out quite quickly at night (though is back again in force in the morning, so all good!) We would gladly return

• "The main double bed is unfortunately uneven and we were rolling downhill both nights."

  The main issue for us is the lack of hot water. One bath and all supplies used up. This is an immersion heater set up and there is limited hot water. Would be an issue if 4 people all fancied a bath / shower within a short space of time. Nice local shop sells cheap logs / kindling supplies. No pets is great, no doggy smells like in other cottages we’ve booked previously.

• "A lovely family break in a village that had woodland and countryside walks on the doorstep and beaches only a few miles away."

  Really enjoyed the view over the river and spotting Kingfishers, cormorants and dippers whilst we had breakfast. A compact but well laid out cottage with easy access to the village shop, steam trains, local walks. We hadn't spotted that there was no washing machine but this was no big deal. Everything worked as it should. Would quite happily return in the future.

• "The cottage was everything we wanted and it was great having the electrical recharge as well, although the railway was so close that we used the trains more."

  The facilities were as described and we had enough of everything. Thank you for the welcome treats. Parking is a little awkward, we would recommend that you suggest driving down and reversing back in your instructions. As any car driver would have to reverse one way or the other it's only a minor change.
