  • "Lovely cosy cottage, ideally located for days out."

Comfortable and private. Would highly recommend

  • "Nice location but the cottage needs some updating of equipment and bedding."

Kutchen needs rea towels and dishcloth. Some tea bags and milk on arrival would be more welcome tha a bottle of wine. Andy [Sykes owner]

We’re sorry that there were elements of your stay that you were disappointed with. Not sure which items of equipment you refer to when you say ‘need updating’ but all appliances, kitchen equipment etc were all bought new only 2 years ago when we started letting the cottage . Obviously there are items of older furniture in the cottage as we feel these are more in keeping with an 1860’s farmhouse cottage . Tea towels and dishcloths are provided and kept in the cupboard directly below the kitchen sink as this seems the most appropriate place. Tea/coffee/milk again all provided and in the cupboard with the cups. Property Owner

  • "A very clean well equipped cottage in a rural, quiet location, which for us was perfect."

The park and ride bus terminal located just down the road is a huge benefit, we used it every day. Our thoughts on the outdoor space allocated for visitors, this would benefit from some tlc, just a general tidy up with maybe some flower planters to provide a splash of colour and give the area a more appealing feel. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break at this cottage.

  • "We had a great stay."

Mark was very welcoming and made sure we knew that he was around if we needed him. The cottage is lovely, very clean with everything you will need and very very comfy beds. Not to mention the view of the stars at night! We will be coming back very soon. If you’re wanting to visit Whitby this cottage is the way to do it!

  • "Instruction books for the appliances need leaving initially in a more prominent place (eg dining table) No instructions provided on how to get the heating working but figured it out (there is a loose/bad connection somewhere in/behind the the programmer)."

No instructions for TV. Very confusing for someone not used to Sky, but did find out by trial and error. Shower head rail is a disaster - need replacing with the correct size. Very difficult to have a shower without getting water all over the bathroom floor. Needs a rail and a curtain. No wooden or non scratch spoons for stirring, when cooking or serving spoons for dishing up. Double glazed lounge window lower pane is 'blown' and needs replacing. Two clocks, neither worked! Battery replaced in lounge one which I suspect had been stopped for a while as the battery I took out was use by 2021! Kitchen one only fit for the bin. Outside area is untidy and uncared for giving an awful first impression when you arrive, which does not improve as you come and go. Better signage needed on the roadside and on the driveway as to where the property actually is. (There being two driveways very close together.) I feel it would be fair to point out the extreme low headroom in parts of this property in the initial description. I am only 5ft 10ins and found it rather trying in the bedrooms and on the stairs.

  • "We found the cottage very homely."

The upholstered dinner chairs and recliners on the sofa made it feel like home. Beds were very comfortable and warm, with views from the roof windows. The kitchen was very well resourced and we made several meals with ease. The shower room was more than adequate. A lovely cottage with lots of character - plenty of tranquility in the country setting. Thanks for very pleasant stay.

  • "The property was beautiful …."

Seemed in the middle of nowhere in walking distance of a lovely pub further up the lane only about 1/2 a mile. And yet it was a short drive to free parking and a walk into Whitby! Sandsend beach is gorgeous with pub food and a couple of gorgeous cafes one surrounded by glass facing the beach! We loved the cottage and the owners too.
