Garden is small but adequate and dog safe. Sun comes around late morning to late afternoon in August, so good for morning coffee and afternoon tea. Area is rural, locals friendly, and most seaside towns are within half an hour’s drive. We loved it, and would stay again.

The owner is very helpful and we found the area amazing. Great walking on the nearby Cinder track with fabulous views. There are two lovely pubs on the road to the cottage. A great cafe for holiday breakfasts and brunches in Scarborough opposite Peasholm park, and next door is a very good fish and chip shop. The Daisy cafe on the way to Proudfoot supermarket does lovely coffee and food. This is a super restful and clean cottage, in a beautiful area with lots see and do. Loved it.

The rooms are large & comfortable. Nice to have 2 bathrooms, when four of you staying. The kitchen was good & the oven worked well ( some cottages we have stayed in did not have reliable ovens). The TV could pick up plenty of stations. The cottage had plenty of room to park 2 cars. The position of the cottage was nice & near to the cinder track (disused railway) for walks south & north. We particularly liked the walk to Ravenscar.

A couple of glitches were sorted out very quickly by the owner. The cottage is nicely decorated and comfortable. Beautiful surroundings and very quiet considering it is right next to the road. The only drawbacks were access to the house. Because it is situated on a narrow, hilly, bendy road, there is nowhere safe to park a car whilst you negotiate getting the keys from the key safe to open the electric gates, and the kitchen equipment, all of which could do with a bit of updating (especially the range cooker).

  • "Faultless. The cottage was spotlessly clean, comfortable and equipped better than any other we’ve ever stayed it ( and we’ve stayed in a lot!"

) Communication by Sykes and the owner was superb. The cottage is perfectly located and we had the most amazing week there. The heating ( that I noticed was complained about) is fine as long as you understand the system and how it’s suppose to work. No real negative comments to make. Downsides ( which aren’t a reflection on the owner and we were aware of most upon booking, but worth noting for others to be aware of) - It is slightly precarious pulling on the driveway with where the cottage is located on the lane. - We left the bin out as instructed but the council didn’t empty it (was already very nearly full when arrived) It meant having to leave a couple of bags of rubbish on top of the bin, which we felt bad to do but didn’t have time to do anything else with it. - The bathroom upstairs is the en-suite to the twin bedroom so meant tip toeing in at 1am! Was fine for us but if you are staying with separate families, might be a bit awkward. P.S if you intend to have a BBQ, get some utensils. That was the only thing we couldn’t find. Overall, absolutely fantastic stay at Wyke Lodge.

The cottage is lovely and clean and spacious. I feel for the money you pay your welcome basket in the kitchen could do with improvement, it was just tea and coffee. Nothing for the kids, not even a biscuit!!, if you have travelled a long way and you're waiting for your shopping to be delivered it would be nice. We also had no wood or coal; at the end of the week, it was colder and would have been nice. The facilities are great, lovely location. great information and communication.

Thank you for your feedback, we will speak with our housekeeper and ensure that biscuits, wood and coal are always left out, we do supply these so apologies that these were not present upon your arrival. We’re glad that you had a good stay and hope to see you again! Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage, very quiet and peaceful and a good base for exploring coast."

The cottage was very clean. It has no garden which may be a draw back to some. Parking is a bit tricky as either side is a blind bend and blind hill so care is needed when going into drive. Not that we saw much traffic. We had a cool week and the c/heating is not very efficient with some radiators not getting very warm. The kitchen was the most sparse I have ever seen and we have stayed in many cottages. No salt and pepper, no oven gloves and nothing left from previous tenants. Not even any cleaning products. Some of the oven trays and pans were a bit past there best. If your self catering you need to take everything you will need.

Thank you for your feedback, we’re glad that you enjoyed your stay and the cleanliness, peace and quiet of the cottage. We’re sorry about the cleaning products and oven gloves, these are typically provided and will ensure our housekeeping leave out. We hope to see you again! Property Owner

Lots to do indoors if the weather is bad with games and DVD’s. Good selection of tourist information (which I have added too) and reading comments in the visitors book we had plenty to fill our week. Had a small problem with the gates but this was rectified within minutes by the owner thank you very much for your prompt attention. Bed was comfortable and the living room cosy with the fire going. The heating was a bit intermittent and I would say as the weather gets colder you do need the fire in the living room.

Thank you for your feedback! We are pleased to hear that you had a lovely time and loved the cottage! The battery in the key- fob to the gates had died so glad we could sort that quickly with a replacement fob. Our heating system is on a Nest thermostat, so once it attains the requisite temperature it goes off, so may seem intermittent as it comes on and off during the day. 100% agreed with the open fire, that is the best way to heat the cottage in the winter months. • "This was not a cheap holiday in comparison to similar, sadly, standards have slipped since our previous visit pre pandemic."

On arrival, a small bucket of coal was supplied but no kindling, paper or matches (the supplied firelighter was empty). So, another visit back to Scarborough was necessary. Owner informed us that this was an oversight. We discovered that the washing machine was literally about to expire, making the most terrible noise and clothes coming out with grubby marks (not there when put in the machine). Owner informed us that he will get this replaced. The bathroom was in need of an overhaul (unfilled holes in the tiles where blinds/curtains had been removed). Owner informed us that the overhaul will be done later in the year. One of the bicycles had a flat tyre so they were no use to us. Forgot to mention this to the owner in my email sent about the above. We are not sure, but believe that the fridge may also be about to expire as the temperature inside seemed irregular - milk went off on a couple of occasions (even though we turned the setting up). On a minor note, the welcome pack was pretty miserly - cheap biscuits, previously opened coffee (leftovers?) and no tea. We have had much nicer ‘welcomes’ from cottages where we paid far less and for shorter stays. It’s the little things that matter. On a positive note (although our experience was overshadowed by the above) this is still a lovely cottage in a super location. We did have a wonderful holiday (helped with the beautiful weather) and would consider returning but would keep an eye on the reviews. Nearby, Bryherstones pub is well worth a visit - booking advisable. We visited twice and each time the food and service were fabulous. In Scarborough, Harbour Bar Italian ice cream parlour (down on the sea front) is amazing, we visited 4 times during our stay. We had considered revisiting the Alpemare water park but on discovering that a 3 hour stay for £18 per adult was a bit excessive so didn’t bother. In Whitby, Sherlocks cafe is well worth a visit - lovely drinks and food with really nice and friendly service and a nice ‘oldie-worldie’ ambiance. If you fancy a cocktail, Harry’s (near the fish market) or Macy Brown’s (near to the Station) are worth popping in. In Pickering, Botham’s tea room (opposite the station) is also well worth a visit for fabulous cake and sandwiches as well as friendly service.

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you consider the cottage lovely and in a super location. We have now replaced both the washing machine and the fridge with new appliances. Unfortunately we had had to use an alternative housekeeper for your stay due to illness, and they had not updated the welcome pack and starter pack for the fire in line with our usual standards, hopefully you will stay with us again and this will not be repeated. The downstairs bathroom is scheduled for an overhaul, and will be done in late 2022/early 2023, subject to contractor availability. Property Owner

Thank you for your feedback, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. We have changed the pans in the kitchen and replaced the sockets in the dining room. The interior is quite spacious but the kitchen and ground floor bathroom are in need of an update. The patio area at the rear is very small, and not totally enclosed, which was a concern for us as we have two dogs and the cottage is situated on a busy road. There was no welcome, or information pack so we had no way of contacting the owner had anything went wrong during our stay, also there was only one door key and electric gate fob, which meant our party of four couldnt go anywhere seperately, and had to go everywhere together. Overall though we enjoyed our week at Wyke Lodge but not sure if we'd go back.

Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. We email out our welcome booklet which is also in the property, and Sykes are available for any urgent queries. There is a key safe on the property with the code so keys can be left if people wish to go out separately. Hope to see you again in the future! Property Owner
