  • "We have just spent a week at Cliff House and enjoyed every minute of our stay."

The property was located in the ideal place for a week discovering the Yorkshire coast and moors. The house was well maintained and the off road parking was a bonus. It was also only a 2 minute walk into the centre of Helmsley which had a number of great places to eat and a Co-op. As a family who enjoy visiting Yorkshire we would definitely stop at Cliff House again in the future.

Well located to enjoy Helmsley!! Only improvement would be to be able to open a window for bit of fresh air!!

  • "Cliff House is comfortable and maintained to an extremely high standard."

It is in a perfect location for the pretty town of Helmsley and the beautiful surroundings of North Yorkshire. The allocated parking is also a definite bonus. On a negative note feel that more storage space is required in the bedrooms, as had to keep a lot of clothing in the suitcase (I note that other visitors have made the same comment) There was also the grim discovery of dog mess on the lawn in the garden and as pets are not allowed in the property, it is likely the gate was left open and some local residents allowed their dogs to use the garden as a toilet! The gate needs to be more secure to prevent this from happening again, as unpleasant for everybody. However, in closing this is a very cosy and welcoming cottage and would definitely like to return. The welcome gifts on arrival were also much appreciated. Thank you.

Everything you need. Would've preferred some privacy from large landing window and some blackout/ heavy curtains at bedroom windows..other than that great. Bonus of off street parking having stayed in Helmsley previously. Thank you

  • "Lovely, well maintained property located within easy walking distance of the centre of beautiful Helmsley."

Useful parking at the rear for two vehicles next to a small, quiet and secluded garden, which is perfect for reading a book in the sunshine with a glass of your favourite tipple. Storage space for clothing in the bedrooms is quite limited, which could be an issue for an extended stay, but if you know this in advance, then you can plan ahead. Storage space for kitchen supplies is also a bit limited, especially for a longer stay, especially if you prefer to do one enormous shopping trip at the start of your holiday. The bedrooms at the front of the property look out over the A170 and at certain times, traffic noise is quite noticeable, so if being out in the middle of nowhere in total silence is more to your taste, then this place may not be for you. On the other hand, if powered two wheelers float your boat, then Helmsley is a Mecca for motorcyclists and the main square is often frequented by machines of all shapes and sizes. We did have one very minor issue. One of the bedrooms has two single beds which can be zipped together if requested in advance. We requested this change, but unfortunately for whatever reason, the message didn't get through. Not a deal breaker for us as we just pushed the beds together! Also, we were unable to locate an information pack containing details of how to use the various appliances, but we figured it out so not really an issue for us. Our group of six really enjoyed the stay and would certainly consider coming back at some stage.

Pleased you had a good stay in Helmsley. We have updated the welcome pack so all info should now be readily available. My apologies that Sykes didnt inform the cleaners of the bed preference as they normally do. We have also sorted more storage in the kitchen for larger shops. Although I am sure you were tempted out by all the fantastic restaurants and cafes around. See you again soon. Sarah Owner Property Owner

  • "Positives. Great location."

Car parking. Small garden with furniture. Well appointed kitchen / dining room and sitting room plus downstairs WC. Good bathroom. Lots of towels supplied. Comfy beds and linen. Welcome bottle of processco and biscuits. Lots of toilet roll etc supplied. Not so great. Spent 2 hours looking for WiFi code as no instructions supplied ( nor for any appliance ) Sitting room would benefit from some lamps - currently it’s overhead lights on / off only. There are three bedrooms but only one drawer ( not set - a single one ) and one small wardrobe to service all guests plus a few hooks on wall. We had to live out of suitcases which isn’t what expect to have to do in a property listed as 5 *. Curtains only in one bedroom which meant the( lovely ) sunshine came through blinds and impeded sleep quality. All of the above would be easy to rectify.

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. We have rectified most of these now to make it even more enjoyable. Hope to see you again soon. Sarah Owner Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Cliff House."

It was warm, comfortable and very convenient. There were a few things missing which would have made our stay even better for instance: Door mat More draw space in bedrooms Instructions on how to use the heating, oven, when recycling day is etc. There were no recycling boxes for paper or glass outside the property. Sometimes it is just the little things that improve a place. Having said that we would have no hesitation in booking the cottage again.

  • "After using Sykes for many years, found this property lacking in a number of ways."

We were 3 adult friends in our 70s each wanting our own double bedded room, however, due the oversized double beds in each room, only 1 room had space for a wardrobe, we had to leave most of cases unpacked as there was nowhere to put our clothes. The other very irritating issue was no general information pack anywhere to be found in the house, even though ewe searched every possible place it could be. We did contact Sykes on the second day and received an email from the owner, but still no mention of when to put the bins out and how to sort recycling into the correct bins. It would also be a good idea to provide info on Doctor/ Dental and emergency phone numbers. This could be a very nice place to stay in a lovely village, but was rather spoilt by the lack of information normally found in Sykes properties.

  • "What a lovely cottage."

Comfortable and well equipped in the heart of the town. It is on the main road but that didn’t bother us as the garden was on the other side. We’ll definitely be back for another stay.

  • "We think this a lovely property in a very pretty village."

The only reason I did not give it a 5 is the lack of clothes storage. As there were only 3 of us we used the other bed to lay clothes on. Wardrobe in main bedroom not easy to use and such a shame as there is space for a larger functional wardrobe. However we would still stay here again the the future.

So pleased you enjoyed your stay. We will look at increasing the wardrobe space for future bookings. See you again soon. Sarah Property Owner

  • "A very pretty, well-equipped cottage with ample space for 2 cars in the property's drive."

(Ours is a larger size vehicle.) The old cooking range in the kitchen is as amazing as it looks online, the cottage's real USP! The Sykes website doesn't mention it, but there is a washing machine in the kitchen too. The beds are very comfortable, the twin room was bigger than we thought it looked in the photo. The 2 king sizes beds have room underneath for storing your bags. The garden is a traditional country style garden which enjoys sun all day and even has a view of the top of Helmsley Castle. We were only about 3 or 4 minutes walk to the market square, with its small supermarket, which is open until late. There are a couple of very well-stocked local delis on the other side of the square. Helmsley boasts a number of good restaurants, cafes, a fish and chip shop, plus a very small department store and great independent shops. We treated ourselves to a lovely picture at The Saltbox Gallery. We enjoyed a drink at the Helmsley Brewery, which not only has a bar downstairs but, at weekends, has a great Cocktail Bar upstairs called The Angels Share. Helmsley even has a small petrol station, which was handy. 2 miles drive away in Harome is the famous gastropub, The Star Inn, and The Pheasant Hotel's restaurant - both excellent and highly recommended. We also had a lovely meal at The Fairfax Arms in Gilling East. (We used Helmsley Black Cabs when we ate outside of Helmsley so we didn't have to drive.) So, for us, Helmsley was the perfect place for a true experience of the North Yorks Moors, with all we needed on our doorstep. Thank you to the lovely, helpful, but not intrusive owner for a wonderful week in this beautiful cottage. (Also to our amazing friends who clubbed together to treat us to this cottage!)

The garden was very sheltered and we enjoyed the unexpected April sunshine sitting at the table and chairs. The only negatives were that there was no welcome pack, so no hob instructions! Also there was only one tea towel for a five night stay. I would recommend and stay again!

Thank you for your feedback, we are emailing out our welcome pack information , but have now provided a hard copy at the house for reference following your suggestion. • "The cottage was absolutely beautiful, gorgeously renovated and so comfortable, warm and clean."

The property was well situated for brilliant days out. W We only had two minor issues; one was that there was not much storage and as we had a toddler this was slightly tricky; however the rooms are really gorgeous, warm and comfy which was far more important! The other was that a neighbouring property blocked the drive for two days with their bins and we were uncertain whether we could move them or not, so we had to park on the road. Parking on the road was free so this wasn't a major issue, just slightly inconvenient but not at all the owners' fault! We had a wonderful stay and would definitely come to stay again.

Hi Rosanna, I am so pleased you had a good stay. We are process of putting up a screen for the neighbour bins so this does not happen again. Thanks for letting us know. Hope to see you again soon. Sarah Property Owner
