  • "Ellaberry was absolutely amazing."

Everything we needed in a wonderfully spacious cottage. The location was perfect with so many scenic places to visit. The weather wasn't kind to us but we enjoyed every minute of our holiday. Would definitely stay again.

  • "The description of this cottage gave us a false view, yes the view over the fields was true but the view of the muddy entrance along a farm track was not noted."

There were broken floor tiles, the oven needed cleaning. We couldn’t get the internet as the codes were incorrect. This is the worst Sykes property I have booked.

  • "I have never stayed in a property where I had to purchase a new kettle on day one because of the condition of the one in the property."

The kitchen was generally unclean. Microwave was rusty. Cooker hood had one out of three lights working. This was a theme throughout the property. The dishwasher leaked. We bought this to the attention of the owners and they were aware of it and put tape around the pipe. The cupboard was unusable because of wetness. Second fridge ( no knobs on door as it was integrated) had food items left in from previous guest. Despite owners instructions we were unable to use the main shower and used the ensuite shower which had comment and stones flooring which had not been cleaned. the main shower had buttons that all appeared to be broken or burnt out. There were no instruction manuals for any appliances and were we told if we wanted the heating on then we were to contact the owner. The main bathroom Window was not frosted glass and looked out on to another property meaning the blind was down for most of our stay. Light bulbs missing or not working, broken tiling across the floor . In the utility room there was an old toothbrush and paint pots that looked as if they were just left. We booked this property through Sykes and were disappointed that it does not seem to reach a satisfactory standard.

  • "Excellent place to explore County Durham including Durham City."

Hartlepool, Durham Moors, Beamish, Bishop Auckland , Barnard Castle and Raby Castle. Quiet spacious location with good facilities. Only 4 bowels which is not enough for accommodation which sleeps 6 and needs a small kitchen knife otherwise kitchen facilities ok. Good local shops in Barnard Castle or large Sainsbury's in Bishop's Auckland.

  • "Lovely location and very peaceful."

The farm dog amused my children every day with jumping over the wall and having a game of football. The cottage was lovely and had everything needed. We did feel it need a little TLC. The ensuite shower wasn't great, not very powerful and water dripping from the shower head and pipe, the beds were very comfy although the town room beds were very rickety and need tightening. The main bathroom was lovely especially the shower, although we didn't use the jets (we didn't know how too). We did have a storm which affected the electrics but they came back on after 30 minutes. We were close to family for visiting which was our.main focus. There was an leak near the front door when we had the heavy downpour, and a puddle of water formed in the utility room on the corner. We were miffed to have no radiators in any rooms or on the bathroom, so drying towels after using them was impossible. I understand there is underfloor heating but we didn't know how to use it, although we would have needed it during our stay. A dressing table in the main bedroom would have been nice but hand having the drawers and a mirror above. The information folder would be better if it had more information on how to use the shower jets, underfloor heating. Helpful to have the iron and ironing board, although this was very hard to use as it was very low and a little bent. Lovely to have some games and puzzles available, although the Whitby puzzle had one price missing, but didn't spoil the fun. A good clean of the microwave and baking trays would be good as they are very used and light bulbs in the main bedroom again only 2 working. Some broke tiles on the floor outside the twin room. It was a good location for us to visit family which was the intention of our stay but we feel from pictures, the adjoining cottage looked much more inviting and bigger.

  • "Lovely cottage which was perfect for our Christmas holiday."

Feels very spacious and also cosy with the fire and big sofas. We requested extra logs during our stay which was provided straight away. We had a great time. A few issues for maintenance: there was a handle missing from the fridge so we had to transfer it from a cupboard not used often, one of the oven doors doesn't shut fully, there is a leak in the roof by the front door, the water pressure in the en suite shower is very low, the cistern doesn't alway re fill in the en suite toilet

Very close to all the attractions we planned. The cottage was lovely, clean and very comfortable however does need a little freshening up as some areas looking a bit tired i.e kitchen cupboard but this didn't effect our stay. Lovely welcome pack of butter cheese, milk and homemade bread. We would also recommend The Black Horse Ingleton fab Italian.

  • "We had a lovely relaxing week at Ellaberry, the house was clean comfortable and had everything and more that we needed."

The well stocked games cupboard and dvd selection was a massive hit with the children unlike the Wi-Fi which is a bit ropey but it’s not a real issue as you’re on holiday so having to put the tech down is a bonus.

  • "Ellaberry must be one of the comfiest cottages we’ve stayed in and the view from the open plan living space was fabulous."

We liked the location and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners were friendly and helpful. Raby Castle and High Force waterfall provided excellent days out. The kitchen was generally well equipped with utensils but we would have appreciated additional pots. There weren’t enough for one day’s use and we didnt want to use the dishwasher more than once per day when it was half empty so had to do a fair bit of washing up. A draining spoon and egg cups would also have been much appreciated. Some of the kitchen cupboards and drawer fronts need attention as they are badly damaged. The shower in the family bathroom was excellent … but we got very wet working out how to use it! Luckily the well equipped laundry room had a drier!

  • "This house is very spacious, comfortable and well equipped BUT is just let down a bit by many maintenance issues."

One bathroom door didn't close at all, the other was stiff as it jammed on the tiles. There was a leak in the hallway which we had to mop up and catch in a bucket (owner aware). Some light bulbs needed replacing, some kitchen cupboard doors ill-fitting & damaged. One bedroom door didn't close and some floor tiles cracked and loose. Fancy chandelier light fittings need a good dust but realise that in the countryside spiders will always be an issue. A days DIY would bring this lovely house upto the level it deserves as it really did have everything we needed and we enjoyed our stay very much.

It was very well equipped and so comfortable, so many lovely details such as the amazing light fittings in the bedrooms, and the tv in the bathroom was a big hit! Our daughter could get round easily in her wheelchair too, she had to go round the outside of the cottage to get to the garden as the patio door has a step, but it wasn’t an issue at all, in fact I think she preferred it and thought it was a bit of an adventure!

The bungalow is beautiful and spacious and well set out. Everything was how you would want it. There was a fresh baked loaf of bread and fresh butter as well. The fridge had cheese and milk in which was a surprise. There was also tea/coffee supplies and other condiments. The bedrooms were spacious and light and airy. The shared bathroom had a great big shower unit a sumptuous bath and also a tv on the wall luxury. The en suite had a shower with a cobbled stone floor it just made a statement. The outside area was nice with a seating area and grass and the added attraction of the young cows looking over the wall and being curious. If I could build my own house it would be based on this layout. We loved it and would come back without hesitation.
