It meant I had to buy a torch to let the dogs out at night. A clock in the property would have been nice. When it was windy, the windows were very draughty and rattled. Other than that, a nice place to stay and we would certainly stay there again.

No cushions on sofas, no table mats only table protector ,no books on shelves. Spotlight in lounge not working. Extractor fans in both bathrooms not working. No instruction leaflets for appliances as being converted to digital . As per notice in kitchen this is a work in progress as òwner finds time and inspiration!!..Kettle not used as inside coating deterioration no longer considered hygienic , boiled water in saucepan for drinks!. Garden needs tending, place lacks maintenance

I am sorry you felt things were not as you wished, and didn't contact us at teh start of your stay to try to rectify things. The extractor fans both work well, once they are turned on at the swithes marked with a fan symbol. The standard lamp has now been replaced - someone had broken the switch. Books, cushions and paper guideboks were removed at the start of Covid, and although the Covid restrictions are now lifted, we prefer to keep these high contact items out for the time being, as Covid is very much still with us/ We did notice a little limescale in the bottom of the kettle, though really not much - it is only a few months old - and it would have been very easy to replace had you let us know, rather than having to use a saucepan. 50 parking is 7.00 for 6 hours if you can get a space then you still have to walk a bit into town, parking outside house no problem, a couple of of cushions on the furniture would not go amiss. Neighbours safety light lights up the 1st floor bedroom, possibly a larger TV.

Ideal location for us as we are more than happy to walk. A short drive to Runswick Bay which is beautiful. Not far from Robinhoods bay in the car. Big supermarkets are not too far either. One walking distance but the others are only a short drive away. Been coming for the last 10 years if not longer and will continue for the foreseeable. We’ve already booked for 2024.

The garden is in a disgusting state the overgrown bushes harbour biting flies. Very unkempt. The towels are so small we thought they were face cloths. The whole of the internal decoration needs some TLC. No instructions when to put the bins out so missed bin lorry. A garden umbrella would have been an advantage. The house is well situated to visit the local attractions. Parking was not a problem we parked outside the house with ease every day. The house is ok but does not have the video and a very poor television and games as stated in the advertisement. All in all we had a very good holiday but the house is tired and neglected.

The shower in the main bathroom leaks through the kitchen ceiling therefore we only had one shower between six of us. It is quite clear from the kitchen ceiling that this has been going on for some time!!!! I did report this to the owner by text however was saddened that it was not responded to.

We had everything we needed. Nice and quiet location, even though it’s on a main road, it’s very peaceful. Had no problems parking outside. Ideal location for a short drive to Staithes, Goathland or Robin Hoods Bay. The walk in to Whitby was less than 20 min. Would recommend stopping off at the park on the way to feed the squirrels. For pizza fans I’d recommend Bitz and Pizzas takeaway. Overall a fantastic week, would love to visit again.

Plenty of room for our two grandchildren and two shih tzu dogs. The kitchen was very well equipped, everything you need and more. Bathrooms clean and all bedding/ towels were clean and fresh. Would stay again when we can. Perfect. Only one problem, the outside light at the back don't work and the back door could be draft proofed as it is off the main living area.

Really enjoyed staying here. Lovely bathrooms. Plenty of space. Plenty of kitchen items/ crockery/utensils. Nice enclosed garden for dogs. Long walk down hill into Whitby but I knew that before I went. Only 2 of us but if there was 6 it wouldn’t be a problem. Would defiantly stay here again. Only down side is could have done with more coat hangers! But nice porch area to hang coats and leave Sandy shoes!

  • "Despite being assured when I booked the holiday that the house would be clean, unfortunately it wasn’t."

We couldn’t use the freezer as it was so iced up, I had to wash the fridge and the cutlery drawer before we used them. The oven was filthy so couldn’t use that. The seals on the bottom of the shower doors were filthy with black grime. The house looked generally uncared for. Wallpaper peeling off in the lounge. Door handles scratched. The duvet covers were not fastened. There was a dead wasp in the kitchen window which had obviously been there some time and there was also a dead worm on the lounge carpet in the corner. As far as we could tell all the cleaners had done was hoover the carpets without moving anything and flick a duster round. Fortunately apart from the shower doors the bathrooms were ok.All the window sills needed a good clean, the back yard needed weeding and the furniture jet washing. Given the fact the fact that we have been in lockdown and the property can only have been open a few weeks this house has obviously not been given a deep clean before re-opening. When we had finished unpacking I gave the dog a drink of water, he splashed some on the kitchen floor which I immediately wiped up with clean kitchen paper towel, which, when I looked at it (the kitchen towel) was filthy, obviously the floor hadn’t been washed very well. I really don’t like complaining but having seen negative reviews on trip advisor I raised the questions of cleanliness when I booked the house. Unfortunately I can’t remember the young mans name who made my booking but he was very helpful and contacted the owner who said there had been a problem with the cleaner but this was resolved and the house would be clean. Having been to a cottage in Saltburn last year which was absolutely spotless I booked with confidence. I feel that we should be recompensed in part as we definitely did not receive the quality we paid for and expected. Photographic evidence can be supplied.

The only thing I would say which didn't affect our holiday was the house was in need of a proper deep clean to remove cobwebs and the general dustiness . Tops of kitchen cupboards are in desparate need to a wash down. The main thing though was the beds which were very clean and comfortable and as previously stated the house was lovely and warm. We were given a key marked summerhouse but there didn't appear To be a summerhouse. I asked at garden centre where key collected and they appeared oblivious also.

The property

An attractive, mid-terrace Victorian property, situated on the edge of the popular seaside town of Whitby.

Converted from a former manor house, this family-friendly accommodation is perfect for exploring the many attractions of this historic port, but with easy access to the stunning scenery of the North York Moors National Park.

Set over three floors, there is a modern, well-equipped galley-style kitchen, which leads into a very light and spacious sitting room with a large bay window, complete with a padded window seat.

This room feels warm and welcoming as it is enhanced by a gas living-flame fire and comfy seating, with a good selection of games and DVDs for a rainy day.

From the sitting room, there is access to a sheltered, enclosed rear patio; a pleasant spot to enjoy a morning coffee in the sunshine.

Upstairs are three comfortable bedrooms, with the first floor king-size room having the benefit of an en-suite shower and views over the roof tops to the moors beyond.

A twenty minute walk brings you into the heart of this atmospheric town, with a labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets and alleyways to meander through, a picturesque harbour and beautiful, long sandy beaches.

With numerous restaurants and quaint tea rooms to sample and lots to visit, including Whitby Abbey, Captain Cook's Museum and Pannett Park, there is something for everyone.

For something a little different, why not partake in an evening's ghost walk, or a whale watching boat trip out to sea.

The surrounding area has plenty to offer, with exhilarating walks along the dramatic coastline, fossil hunting at Runswick Bay and not to be missed, a ride on the famous steam railway from nearby Grosmont.

A superb base for a varied and interesting holiday in the North Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £300.
