  • "Very good apartment for a week's stay."

Quiet location with good on and off street parking but within easy walking distance of seafront and town centre. Apartment is well furnished, comfortable and has just about everything that you could need.

  • "The apartment (3) was great, very cozy with lovely furniture and decor, also very clean and tidy."

Kitchen was well equipped and the oven worked well. Bathroom was modern with great shower. Good position for walking into Whitby centre or to the west cliff approx 10 mins both ways. The welcome pack of wine, milk and delicious biscuits was a lovely treat to receive. The only downside to our stay was the grounds need some maintenance as very overgrown and untidy and the seating & table provided in the garden area was a poor standard, also the mattress and pillows on the bed require an upgrade , comfortable enough but poor standard. We loved our stay and will recommend and return regardless of the disappointment of the above comments on garden and bedding.

Short walk onto Whitby but not too bad, a few uphill parts on the way back but nothing too strenuous. Advantage of a car space and lovely gardens. On street parking available too. Handy for supermarket at the top of the road and easy access in and out of Whitby. Would definately recommend and stay again.

  • "A delightful property."

Very comfortable and very warm, with a very efficient heating system. Lovely view of the garden and very handy for town with the added bonus of parking. Be aware that there is a technique to parking at this property and you may need to move your car after you have seen the diagram in the flat. It would be helpful if Sykes would send this information out with the confirmation of booking. There is a welcome pack of milk, wine and a pack of Botham's biscuits which is greatly appreciated. There are some teabags and sugar sachets to start you off, but no condiments, so bring your own salt/pepper shakers. For people new to Whitby, the apartment information would benefit from a map or diagram showing the nearest shops for buying groceries. There is a very well equipped kitchen with everything you need to self cater - but no oven gloves (we tend to carry our own so not an issue for us). The apartment has tea towels, wiping cloth and washing up sponge provided. The crockery is very high quality and there are several different size pans. There isn't a dishwasher, but there is a small freezer downstairs in the understairs cupboard. Shower is lovely and there is information regarding the hot water in the taps being slightly low pressure, which is very helpful. The shower itself has a pump and is the rainfall type. We do find that the listing is out of date: it states that towels are not provided (still has the covid listings on the website), but they were though the towels were standard towels, not bath sheets, so if you like a bigger towel you may need to pack one still. The towels were very nice and fluffy though. The bedroom is quite limited space wise between the end of the bed and the window. This may be an issue for those with mobility concerns who can manage stairs but may find manoeuvring in confined spaces more difficult. The bed is also quite soft but comfortable enough for most I would think, I just prefer a firmer mattress due to back issues. There is plenty of space for cases, plenty of storage options and hooks on the backs of all doors for hanging items. There is hanging and boot space downstairs when you enter the property. There is an eclectic collection of books and DVDs and plenty of sockets for the inevitable recharging of electronic equipment. We really like this apartment when visiting family though it is obviously very popular as we can't always book it. I would recommend highly.

  • "A lovely apartment for my last minute Christmas getaway."

Very homely feel throughout ,adequately stocked kitchen, hair dryer and iron were a bonus. I loved the Christmas decorations and it was a nice touch leaving wine, milk and biscuits. A quiet and cosy apartment, very comfy bed and the shower was spot on and easy to use. The location is fabulous, 10 min walk into Whitby centre, slightly longer return as its uphill but this wasn't an issue personally as I'm a hiker. The driveway was adequate for 3 cars, I didn't drive at all during my stay as it was so convenient to walk into Whitby. I wouldn't change a thing.

  • "Clean, comfortable and warm apartment which we enjoyed staying at."

We were easily able to walk into Whitby centre and it is a good base for seeing the surrounding area. Car parking space is an absolute bonus and takes the stress out of finding roadside parking. We understood from the details we needed to bring towels, which we did, but forgot a bath mat. Could this be added as a reminder alongside towels for future holidaymakers? Thank you, we really recommend Stakesby House Apartments.

  • "A lovely place to stay, just uphill from the centre of Whitby."

Rooms are a good size. There were a few niggles, however, that could be easily improved - for example providing two sets of keys would mean we didn't need to use the key safe (especially as this was difficult to use when the sun was shining on it). Cleaning products were minimal with nothing provided for wiping surfaces. It would simplify parking if the parking spaces were marked out, rather than putting this information inside the flat. The information provided by Sykes was inaccurate as it says towels can not be provided due to covid regulations - that has been incorrect for a long time. Also a fridge and freezer are provided (although the freezer is underneath the staircase - we only found it by accident when looking for cleaning materials!)

    Reviewed by Joyce3.8Aug 2023

  • "Parking tight but manageable- unless someone had a SUV or similar."

A note saying the freezer was under the stairs would be helpful. We found it by accident. Bed really uncomfortable - sorry folks but we didn’t sleep well at all. Sitting room, bathroom and kitchen nice and clean and everything worked.

Having a separate kitchen to the sitting room is an added bonus, especially as it has a view across the lovely gardens. Despite being on a busy road, the apartment is remarkably quiet. We have stayed in many places in Whitby as we have family in the area, and this is by far the best we have used - wish we had found you earlier! The only comment I would make is that the bed is very close to the radiator and may be limiting for some people, which might be something that could be included in the description. All in all, highly recommended.

Confusion with another couple arriving at same time & wanted access to our flat. They had same key box code, eventually it was sorted when they’d spoken to their agent, but it was not a great start to the holiday for everyone. Please ask the owner /manager to kindly do three things: 1) label each flat door A, B, C 2) change key box code so that the three different flats have three different codes. 3) the front drive desperately needs the house name, SatNav is a bit erratic so we weren’t exactly sure we’d arrived until we saw the back garden for which we had seen photos on your website. We will re-book next year, thank you.

The cottage was beautifully decorated and clean. I would say the only negative feedback and it is only minor is the signage or lack of it at the front of the property. We drove past numerous times before having to get out of car and check house numbers. It doesn't also state that there is a up hill walk back to the house from the centre of Whitby which ever way you take, which for some people could be a problem. Great for walkers though. Perhaps having a hairdryer available in bedroom would be a nice touch and the welcome gift which is a lovely touch could have tea bags added to the milk and biscuits. Having said all that the location especially the rear gardens are lovely and the area which the property is located is also very nice and quiet. We would recommend this property to stay in and wouldn't hesitate in staying there again.
