  • "Comfortable and spacious rooms."

Well equipped kitchen. One shower room was rather small and beds would have been better as king size rather than double. Lovely open fire and sufficient seating in lounge. Ideally located between two pubs (both doing food and cask ales) with a chip shop and butchers opposite. Not far from picturesque Runswick Bay and accessible for Staithes and Saltburn on Sea.

  • "This is a really lovely house in a fantastic situation for visiting this part of the Country."

Plenty of space for 6 people to get along without getting on top of each other. Our bed was super comfortable. Large room and having ensuite shower - lovely. Superb kitchen and dining room, lots of books and games available. My only 3 observations are - that lounge is so very dark even in daylight hours, perhaps a couple of walls in a lighter colour. Secondly instructions for the cooker. Found it a bit confusing to use but that's not the end of the world. Freezer a bit knackered

  • "We had a great stay at Fair Holme and happily recommend it to anyone reading."

The description's accurate, you'll be comfortable and have everything you need, but something it doesn't convey is how airy the house is - those high ceilings really add to an impression of space. If you're in a group, go and bagsie the room on the right at the top of the stairs straightaway. If you fail at that, think about showers when choosing between the other two rooms, because the shower in the middle room is pretty tight. There are a few comments about struggling to work the telly. It's fine, but it's digital-only and the controller does have an unusually small home button, just an outline on the top left of the group round the Ok one. It's also missing the plastic battery cover. We stuck a laggy band round it, if that's gone you'll need to keep the batteries in with your thumb. Watch out for the seal at the bottom of the shower gate in the utility room. We couldn't work out the trick to it, so ended up with a small mopping job after hosing down the (unappreciative) dog.

The internet listing doesn't justify the property. The whole family enjoyed the property and a great location for nearby beaches. Just one negative the water temperature was very hot especially in the kitchen. We would like to stay there again. Highly recommended.

  • "Lovely holiday cottage as described with good facilities - we liked the location with easy access up and down the coast…but deeply disappointed that the outside bins had clearly not been emptied recently; the general waste bin was full and smelt unpleasant- we put it out on the allotted day and so there was space to leave our rubbish there at the end of the week."

The recycling bin, which should have been emptied the previous week, was too full to add our recyclable waste. I realise the first responsibility lies with whoever is staying at the time, but surely it is possible to deal with this, if it hasn’t been done?

The house was clean and warm and the beds were comfy - always a good thing on holiday! The owner was excellent in solving a couple of problems for us. Maybe there could be better instructions for using the TV. 3 ladies of a certain age needed a bit more info!!

Owner bought another one from Argos and travelled from Leeds to set us up with wifi and the smart TV but couldn’t. He contacted his provider but the new router did not arrive during our rental period. This also caused minor problems with the central heating as the room stat was controlled by wifi. The owner showed us how to use the central heating manually. The TV could not be used in smart mode with only basic channels being available, another inconvenience.

Apart from an initial issue with the heating which was quickly rectified, we had a fabulous stay. Perfect location for runswick bay, Sandsend, Whitby, staithes. Huge property but as there was only 2 of us, we only really used the lounge and one bedroom, despite having 3 to choose from! Downstairs loo and shower are handy after a day walking, even if the extension is a little chilly in winter which is to be expected.

However, some of the information on the website regarding facilities in the village needs updating. Whilst there are two pubs, neither is open on all days of the week and only one is still doing meals. Also, the fish and chip shop directly opposite is only open for 9 hours per week on 3 evenings. The butcher shop is excellent and sells much more than meat. Having said all that, we had a fabulous holiday and will book with Sykes again.

Liked the downstairs shower which we could have used for the dog (but didn’t need to). Even better if we had understood the tv requirements more eg needed our Netflix password etc. Bit strange not having terrestrial channels but not a major problem as we were out most of the time.

The cottage is a great space and the facilities were amazing. We found after a long days walking the sofas/chairs were not the most comfortable (this is a personal opinion). Also, the windows at the front of the house upstairs are broken so blew open wide on their own - which when returning from being out all day caused a concern regarding security.

  • "Lovely cottage."

Decorated and kept to a high standard. Beds comfortable and all ensuite which is a bonus for a large family. The village is ok - 2 pubs, fish and chip shop, tea room and a butchers is pretty much what's there for locals and runswick bay is just around the corner and you can start a section of the Cleveland way from here too. (Nice walk along clifftops to Staithes) The cottage is on the main road which is busy but no problem if you are out during the day. It's a good base for visiting other areas like Robin hoods bay, staithes, saltburn and whitby.
