  • "The cottage was lovely and homely, everything worked, all utensils clean and up to date."

No problems in car parking on the road. The local chip shop was great. Only slightly negative comment is that there is only a double bed, which for us was a bit small...husband is 6'4".

It’s a nice cottage although we found it quite chilly even in May. Families should be aware that there is no washing machine which could be an issue for some. Apart from that everything that you need is provided and the bottle of wine in the fridge was a nice touch and much appreciated.

Second bedroom was ideal for our teenage daughter. Lots of extras there like USB chargers, ironing board, washing up liquid and tea towels. The only downside is the wall heaters don't give off much heat, thankfully there was plenty of blankets and a plug in heater that we could use.

  • "We enjoyed our stay in Lion Cottage."

It was beautifully presented and in a lovely village conveniently situated for exploring the coastal region. Because it is compact there isn't space for a dishwasher or washing machine. This was fine for us but a family of four might find it more difficult. We sat in the chairs as we found the sofa too low and not comfortable. A minor point but the dvd in the upper bedroom did not seem to be working. The stairs up here are very steep. However, the cottage is a great place to stay and we would come back again.

  • "We had an enjoyable stay in Lion Cottage with our young 2 children."

It was very clean and well equipped and the kids loved the attic room. The top of the stairs is steep and quite open into the top room but my 4 and 7 year olds managed well with a night light and practice. Location was good for accessing the local coast line and moors. Only thing I would suggest is that there should be a couple of larger saucepans as the small pans meant we couldn’t cook meals from scratch for the 4 of us, they simply weren’t big enough. Overall though a lovely place to stay.

  • "A very clean and nicely decorated cottage down a narrow lane which meant parking had to be as close as you could get on the busy main road."

I found the double bed very comfortable, but the lounge sofa very uncomfortable unless you raised the seat on cushions. The shower was adequate and a non slip mat is provided, but the toilet cistern needs attention. The kitchen is badly laid out with very little work space particularly if you will be cooking for four. Bring your own favourite can opener. There is a DVD player with the TV but bring your own to play on it. Also bring games etc. in case you get a rainy day and can't sit out in the pleasant front garden. There is a good bus service through the village - every half hour each way - which I found useful. With a few tweeks and additions this would be a nice little cottage.

Well appointed except couldn't fathom out how to work tv. Instructions didn't seem to relate to tv so didn't use. Saying that we personally didn't miss it. Also no washing machine. We wouldn't have used it by those who are younger and have children may have needed one. All in all would recommend.

Very clean and comfortable. Had everything we needed. Steep stairs to the second bedroom and narrow beds, but for our 8 year old daughter this wasn’t a problem, she absolutely loved the loft room, she didn’t want to leave it! Tv in loft room, and smart tv downstairs. Perfect little base for our adventures.

The one down side to this cottage is we won't be able to visit again, because of the no pets policy. It's one of the rare times in my life I haven't got a dog, and I'm hoping to change that soon, so I will need to go back to booking pet friendly cottages.

  • "Lovely little cottage in a beautiful area."

We were lucking enough to get a last minute booking for a few days and this cottage just suited. However as we were only staying for three nights it was fine but, the single beds are very narrow and it does lack certain facilities for longer stays i.e no washer, dishwasher. The bathroom could do with a hook for robes and maybe a grabrail in the bath area. We did enjoy the garden though as we had absolutely glorious weather so it was great to sit out there after a long day away. Had a lovely meal at the Badger across the road and the guys that own it were very friendly and helpful.

  • "Lovely little hideaway for two of us (not sure how it would be for 4)."

Perfect location in the village and no problems parking on the main road. It was nice to have the garden for those warmer days/evenings. All in all, a comfortable, sweet little cottage - I even found the bed comfortable, which is strange for me!! If you prize having super modern interiors in a very old building, this probably isn’t the place for you. But if, like us, you like a place to have a bit of quirky character then Lion Cottage is lovely and very reasonably priced.

  • "I rated the stay 4 stars because the location and the local residents were actually 5 stars but your feedback did not ask that."

The cottage was very small certainly too small for 4 people I feel and I would have rated it 3 stars. The lack of internet was a problem as finding local info online would have been useful. Mobile phone coverage was poor so this made internet access more important. It was a great spot if you like walking as many walks can be undertaken without using the car.

  • "The property has a damp problem in the lounge."

Storage radiators and an immersion heater are not ideal in a holiday let. The toilet cistern was a bit antiquated and tricky to flush (tug too hard and water splashed over the top onto you). Kitchen door, through to the back door, door handle came off in my hand - needs repair. The garden furniture was very much past its best and needs replacing. Generally, the house was cramped and layout of furniture very poor. Very difficult to use the microwave as it opened against you (door on wrong side). There was no holiday leaflet information about the locality and no guest book (Covid?). This was not a welcoming property.

Set well away from the road so no issues with road noise and parking was easy. Ideally placed bench and table for eating outside which catches the sun at various times of the day. There are other cottages around, but you don’t feel too visible. The neighbours were very friendly. Hinderwell is a great location for both the coast and the moors and we would happily return

Good that is was set back from the main road so no traffic noise. My daughter loved the attic bedroom. There's no WiFi however and the coat stand at the back entrance door was broken so and there was no where else to hang coats in the cottage so would benefit from a new stand and hooks on the backs of doors throughout. The toilet requires a lid on the tank as it tends to splash a bit when flushing.

None of our phones had internet capabilities and many pubs/restaurants/places of interest required pre-booking online. Otherwise the cottage was very cosy and well enough equipped for us. The kitchen would benefit from a rethink regarding layout as currently very little worktop space especially if preparing good etc. Perhaps a run of units along 'cooker ' wall?

We could only see this view standing on tiptoe or on the bed in the 2nd floor bedroom and craning our necks to see out of the tiny high window. I think this picture should be removed as it is misleading. All else was good except the noise of the busy road at the end of our garden. The cottage was very comfortable for the 2 of us (might have been a bit cramped for 4) cosy to come back to after a day out and very well equipped. I think it was very good value for money. The cottage does not have WiFi, and we frequently had no phone signal because of the thick walls of the cottage. This was not a problem for us - until we needed to contact the 111service for some advice in the middle of the night. I couldn't use the on-line service and when I phoned the phone kept cutting out. It was just unlucky that I was unwell while we were there (fortunately nothing serious that was sorted with antibiotics) but when we are more and more reliant on online services these days I feel WiFi would be an added benefit to the cottage. Other than that we had a lovely stay and would recommend the cottage.

If we had known this we would have left the bikes at home. A few visits to Dotties Tea Room in Staithes was our WIFI saviour. The cottage was warm, cozy and comfortable for the two of us.
