  • "We had a really nice family stay here, 4 adults, 2 grandchildren (11 and 7)."

The house is very spacious, warm and a little quirky and dated. It had everything we needed: lots of fridge/freezer space, kitchen equipment etc. As in previous reviews, the double beds were rather small being used to a king sized beds. The rear garden was enormous and great for the children. Large driveway, so easy and spacious parking. Sea front walkable in 30 minutes, drivable in 5. Whiteheads fish and chips (excellent) just half a mile away as is a large Tesco. A most pleasant and enjoyable stay.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay."

It was our 2nd time here so we knew what we was going to. This time we asked our family to join us. Very comfortable and clean. The provision of towels was good and beds were made up for us. We do find the lack of plug sockets can be a slight problem especially when trying to use hairdryer as there are no sockets near a mirror. We took an extension lead with us. Contact with the owner was excellent and the provisions left were excellent. The dairy free cakes and milk was good as grandaughter is dairy free and loved that she had treats to eat x

There was absolutely everything you could need, and so many lovely places to visit on the doorstep. We only wish we could have stayed longer. A big thank you to Pauline for the kind extras of biscuits, bread, milk etc such a love touch and much appreciated. We hope to return again soon.

A large comfy sitting room.Wonderful big gardens for children to run around in. Handily placed for Hornsea, Freeport etc. Whiteheads fish and chips just up the road amazing and worth the queue. All in all a lovely place.

  • "We had a wonderful holiday at Alcuin."

The large house is very comfortable and well equipped and we all had great fun playing Hares and Hounds in the huge garden most evenings. It is certainly one of the best houses we have stayed in. We were lucky as the weather was brilliant all week. The house is within walking distance of Hornsea town, beach and mere and we visited great beaches and pretty towns and villages in this beautiful part of Yorkshire.

In a quiet area. Very well equipped and lovely welcome pack. A real home from home. Great centre for getting to places like Bempton Cliffs, Flamboroug Head, Beverley, Burton Constable etc, not to mention Hornsea itself with lovely beaches and a long prom. Highly recommended.

  • "One of the best cottages we have stayed in and the welcome pack was really generous."

We had plenty of room to spread out and the garden was massive. Everything was very clean and it had everything we needed to feel at home. The only thing to note if you have a young family is the fairly open staircase and landing, a photo might be useful, however not a problem to us. Hornsea itself was lovely.

  • "Loved our stay a Alcuin which was ideal for our large group as it has lots of space for us spread out ."

The good sized bedrooms meant there was no reliance on bunk beds, which we have encountered all too often in other holiday properties. The house is clean, comfortable and homely with a fabulous large garden. The beach is nice and sandy and Hornsea Mere is a hidden gem. We would not hesitate to return and would recommend a stay.

  • "Spacious and well equipped, downstairs cloakroom was a must for those with limited mobility and children."

Staircase being polished wood was a real worry. Master bedroom would benefit from a higher larger bed. Garden is delightful and a visit from a deer was amazing. Shower in pink bathroom needs somewhere to put shower gel and shampoo. House smelt foisty and wooden kitchen units and bedroom furniture do and front porch. 8 people would struggle around kitchen table and with imagination so much more could be made of the space especially dining room..

  • "Hi, Alcuin is a very spacious comfortable and warm house."

It has a super large garden and plenty of car parking space . Inside everything required , and more, is available. It is on the edge of Hornsea . There is plenty to do in town and locally. There are plenty of places to visit especially for children such as the ' Bug zoo' ; the 'DEEP' ; swimming and leisure pool in town ; Hornsea mere ; Hull 's excellent Museum quarter ; amusement arcade ; kids outdoor playground. I can recommend a stay here.

Lovely welcome pack and a very clean and comfortable holiday home, very roomy with a large garden and excellent parking facilities. Everything you might need is provided. Very surprised that this holiday home is only 3 stars seeing that it is a luxury accommodation in a very quiet area yet still near to the beach and local amenities. Ronald Cramer

  • "What a wonderful property!"

The massive garden was a huge hit with our 2 children, who enjoyed the space to play cricket, hide and seek and squirrel watch. The photos don't do it justice. The care we received from the owners was second to none, nothing was too much and virtually everything was provided for. The welcome pack was very welcome - thank you Pauline. The indoor space was great, again giving the children additional space away from the boring adults. The house is well placed for exploring the area and Hornsea is a lovely town with hardly any 'big names' to spoil the high street. The ideal place to enjoy a break and either relax and listen to the birds in the garden or go to the beach and dig for gold.

  • "The property is ideally located (within 10 minute walk) near to shops, the Freeport and a 25 minute walk to the beach."

We swam at the leisure centre which is clean , modern and a 30 minute walk away, 5 mins by car. The property garden is huge, well kept, private and has the sun all day. The beds are all comfortable, the appliances are all very clean as was the property overall. The owner had left various staple food and drink items for our arrival along with plenty of hand wash, toilet roll etc. The owner sent and replied promptly to my messages and was very accommodating. Thank you for a lovely, relaxing holiday.

  • "Lovely, spacious holiday house, enormous garden, well equipped kitchen (2 fridge freezers was a real bonus), generous welcome pack, parking for at least 4 cars, very clean, ok Wi-Fi, only one tv but that was fine for us!"

Torches thoughtfully provided in every bedroom and hallway nightlights for late night loo visits. Good location only 25 minutes walk from the lovely sandy beach (although parking was free at beach car park!), great fish and chips just 10 minutes walk away. The owner was very helpful answering all our queries promptly and clearly. Very good information folder. Could do with soft close on kitchen cupboard doors. Larger bath towels for the adults would have been appreciated! (maybe a larger bed in the huge master bedroom too?) Having only one loo upstairs was a wee problem although having two baths and showers was good. We were disappointed that the table could not comfortably seat the 8 in our party… maybe the dining area needs to be reinstated? The owner was upfront and honest about this when we inquired. Because the house is unmodernised there is huge reliance on multi plugs in most rooms….. and we would say that the open plan staircase makes the house a tad unsuitable for some people. Overall it was a great holiday house for the 3 generations in our party. We hope our feedback is helpful & constructive.

  • "We had a great week away."

The house was a good size for 6 of us and had everything we needed. The kids enjoyed exploring the rooms and the great sized garden. While some of the decor is a bit retro, all the furnishings are modern, clean and in good condition. The owners were easy to contact and dealt with queries promptly. It's in a good location, with everything you need locally. We recommend the beach and Hornsea Museum. The only slight issue for us was the mattress in the main bedroom was very soft, but we know that's personal preference. We'd definitely recommend and would consider staying again.

It has some nice mid 20 century features and is very well equipped, has everything you could possibly need! It's comfortable, homely and clean. The owners have done a fantastic job. The garden is huge, the biggest garden we've ever had in a rental. The welcome pack was lovely, just what you'd need on arrival. It's in a fantastic location, quiet and relaxing yet within walking distance of the seafront, Mere and town center. Freeport is just down the road, ideal for cooked breakfast and lunch. We would recommend a stay and would ?Ike to return someday.

Fabulous large house with plenty space for us all to spread out. It’s the first place we’ve stayed in ( and we’ve stayed in a few!) where there was bread, milk, tea, coffee etc all left for us - it was much appreciated. Also loo rolls - usually there are only two in the bathroom and we need to go buy more! The outside lawn was beautifully kept and the grandkids loved the early morning visit from the squirrel! A great base to get out and explore. Hopefully we will be back
