  • "The Cottage is lovely, we booked 3 nights for a christmas break."

We were greeted by the elderly neighbours John & Maria. John the caretaker, was was doing a small fix job on a door inside, we did arrive early, only to make sure we were at the right cottage. We left him to do the job and walked to the Worsley Arms Hotel, it's a lovely place untouched by time, which had a lovely fire going, met Tony the barman who is super friendly. Our stay at Hovingham cottage was lovely. fresh butter, milk and biscuits welcome pack, I picked the cottage as i really liked the fact its very homely, heating was perfect its on a timer 3 times a day, which was more than adequate, in fact i turned a few radiators down in the bedrooms as i was too warm, and on our last night we lit the fire, it felt very cosy. There are 2 bathrooms very handy. We visited Castle Howard at Christmas booked tickets in advance, amazing! a full day spent there, which is 8 mins down the road, and then the day after went to James Herriot Museum in Thirsk and St Mary's Church its a pretty place ,Thirsk. York is not far but we decided not to go this time. Hovingham is also a pretty place, the houses are beautiful, we enjoyed our walk past the stream. At the cottage, the conservatory in the morning was nice to sit in, overlooking the garden, we fed the birds and a Robin enjoyed cooked bacon rind everyday! We found the beds very comfortable and slept very well. There are games too and we enjoyed playing them. The internet was great and the TV . The cottage does have farm traffic and is a busy road so bring earplugs, if you want to sleep past 6..30am which I did anyway. Perfect. We're early risers so did not bother us at all. We would stay again.

  • "Firstly may I say that the cottage was lovely and clean."

But the central heating needs to be overhauled. The heating was timed for 7-30 till 9-30 am and 5-30 till 9-00 pm. The times may be fine for summer but definitely not for winter. The system could be overridden but it meant running up and down stairs. ( no very good when you are over 70) A information pack for the hospital, doctor's or vets would be appreciated. And lastly it would be great if you were forewarned about the lack of streetlights because it was pitch black on the street and a very bright torch was needed. Many thanks.

  • "This is generally a comfortable, well-equipped property, in a pleasant village."

The average rating reflects the fact that, on our arrival, the property was unheated. Our efforts to get the central heating working gave us heating in the bedrooms and bathrooms but not, unfortunately, the lounge or dining room. We set a wood fire and managed to get the temperature up to 16 degrees. We called Sykes for assistance (owner details not being provided). Despite getting a text saying we would have a reply within 20 minutes we didn't. We called Sykes the following morning and were told we'd be kept abreast of progress. We weren't, but at 7.30 that evening a plumber arrived. Fortunately we hadn't decamped elsewhere in search of warmth. He diagnosed insufficient pressure and, to his surprise, several valves being closed. Once remedied things became better. But we'd had an evening and a half out of four shivering. This is North Yorkshire, in mid October. Outside temperature was forecast at four degrees on the first night. It shouldn't have been difficult to anticipate the need for heat.

Thank you for the feedback, we are very sorry for the unfortunate issue with the heating. This has now been rectified and should hopefully not happen again, a plumber has been and resolved the issue. An owner has now been instated at the property. we hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay in North Yorkshire and all it has to offer. Property Owner

  • "A really nice cottage, much larger than appears from the outside."

The property was very clean and the decor quite fresh. Lovely garden to sit in. We had a number of places locally to visit but found we were more than happy to stay here and chill out. The only very slight niggle is the road outside is very busy day and night and noisy with agricultural vehicles and lorries. It wouldn't put us off from a return visit though. Grand daughter loved paddling in the brook every day.

  • "Cottage was beautiful from the outside with all the lovely flowers in front of the windows."

Inside the kitchen was well equipped with everything you'd need, there was also a washing machine and tumble dryer in the downstairs shower room. There was a dining area as well as a lounge which had an open fire, (not that we used it, but could imagine it looking great in the colder months). TV was a very decent size and there was a dvd player with plenty of dvds to suit all tastes. Upstairs (have to state that stairs were a bit steep) there were two double bedrooms accessed by a step outside of the rooms and a twin bedroom which was had level access as well as a bathroom comprising of shower, toilet, sink and bath. All in all it was a pleasure to stay at the cottage, but I did find that the traffic noise outside was very off putting, especially if sat in the conservatory relaxing with the door open. Traffic was relentless and loud. There was a garden at the rear with washing line which was very handy, and wood seating & table. Cottage was in a lovely village setting & made for the perfect base to go exploring in parts of Yorkshire. Other than that I couldn't fault it.
