  • "Although this was a nice house, it was let down by the cleanliness."

I had to give up an hour of my holiday to mop floors and clean down the kitchen before I was comfortable to use it. Grease dripping from the extraction fan was disturbing. I mopped the floor twice before it was clean enough to walk bare foot on. The windows and interior woodwork need a good clean too. The other issue was the kitchen supplies. Only one shelf in the oven, one saucepan and three colanders

  • "This was in a great location but was let down badly by the cleanliness of the property, the toilets were grubby, the floors downstairs were not clean, stains on the curtains etc and the kitchen worktops and backsplash look like they havent been cleaned for a while, the windows were all dirty, the front entrance was very grubby and the carpets could do with a shampoo, the bed in the main bedroom was extremely uncomfortable."

  • "The property itself was lovely."

However the bathroom on arrival was not very clean. The shower had lots of orange and black grime and the bath needed to be cleaned before use.

  • "On arrival, I was dissatisfied on the cleanliness of the property."

I had to hoover around, clean around the kitchen, and some off the newly changed bed sheets had stains on them. Extremely disgruntled having paid just a little under £1600. There were no instructions for any of the kitchen appliances, no room to store our food in the kitchen area and the Wi-Fi was very slow and unreliable, the swimming facilities needed upgrading too, and the general maintenance around our property had been neglected as well. We have visited this location twice now but this will be the last time we use Sykes to book our holiday. We did manage to salvage our week away despite all of these problems.

  • "Beds and Sofas very comfortable."

Lock on back door faulty, could only unlock it from outside. Internet very very slow (150x slower than at home), not possible to upload photos or watch movies using the internet at the property. Kitchen: only one small ovenproof dish, we had to buy a roasting tray ! Five mugs may seem like enough in a house for five but it is not. This cottage is on "The Bay" complex, the pub on The Bay does good food and it has an excellent gluten free range in a seperate menu and the GF food is cooked in a seperate fryer. The staff take food allergies/intolerances seriously and carefully check ingredients.

  • "No Wi-Fi, no information pack, no instructions for tv or other equipment, poor cleanliness throughout - scum around bath and sinks, toilets not clean with black scum around inside rims, floors dirty and carpets gritty not vaccumed."

We have booked several cottages on The Bay through yourselves and apart from this one, they have been lovely and kept to a high standard.

About the location

FILEY

Scarborough 7.7 miles; Bridlington 10.5 miles.

Set in the magnificent Filey Bay, Filey is a traditional English seaside resort with a friendly atmosphere, offering a restful holiday, making it an ideal place to stay for walkers and wildlife watchers at any time of the year. Filey Brigg is a low headland that protects Filey Bay and provides good bird watching and seawatching opportunities all year round. The 400 ft high Bempton Cliffs (RSPB Reserve) to the south of Filey Bay are home to over 250,000 seabirds in the summer. The town itself seems almost caught in a time warp, retaining much of its character with individual shops, narrow paths and ginnels and there is a slipway where local fishermen keep their boats, plus delightful beach chalets that can be hired through the summer months. The bay is edged with two promenades and there are various gardens, where brass bands play on a Sunday afternoon. This small town is family orientated and there are loads of family activities such as Alpamare UK waterpark, Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park and the Filey Dams Nature Reserve, a wetland reserve where all kinds of common and rare birdlife can be seen. A short drive brings you to the busier town of Scarborough where you will find great beaches, a castle, the Rotunda Museum and the acclaimed Sea Life Centre. Other towns worth visiting close to Filey include Bridlington, Whitby, Hornsea and Saltburn, which all demonstrate the vibrancy of this picturesque North Yorkshire region.
