  • "Really lovely stay and all you could need is there in the cottage."

Had to drive into the centre of Richmond though as we think it would take a while on foot. Don't think it's walkable in 15 minutes, for those amateur walkers anyway. Overall a.really enjoyable stay. Would definately recommend. Thank you

It took only 10 minutes to walk into town so didn’t need to take the car. There was plenty of parking at the cottage. There were tea, coffee, sugar & milk to use which was good as we had forgotten to take any with us. We would definitely stay there again

  • "This was our 2nd stay at one of these four delightful cottages."

This time we stayed at Foxglove and found the cottage similar in layout and beautifully clean when entering. We had our dog Charlie with us and he loved the river walks near by. The only thing with this cottage I found the settee and chair not as comfy as the seating in Honeysuckle which is one of the other four. That said still an amazing cottage. Thanks to the owner and her wonderful lady who keeps the cottages sparkling clean.

Clean lovely decor thick carpet I think it had just been updated throughout.Short walk into Richmond along the road but we preferred to go the long way along the river Great walks on the doorstep could not fault it the seating in the courtyard was lovely can’t understand people being upset saying they have no privacy to eat breakfast out there ( when you eat in a cafe inside or out you don’t have any privacy do you ) We will certainly book again Thank you we had a lovely few days celebrating our 54 year anniversary

  • "On arrival the cottage smelled of dampness and wasnt very pleasant."

The decor looked very tired and requires freshening up. The TV was very small and difficult to watch. The sofa was very low, past it's best and needs to be replaced. The carpet in the sitting area requires to be cleaned. Loved the area but would seek alternative accomodation next time.

Thank you for your feedback. I am the new owner of the cottage and agree it needed doing up. The cottage has since had a full redecoration, new carpets and new furniture. I’m sure all future guests will be happy with the results. Property Owner

I'm sorry the visit failed to meet your expectations, we strive to make every visit enjoyable for every guest, we will take on board everything you have said, however I think it's fair to point out, as you said in our conversation you would normally book 5* luxury accommodation, our lovely cottages are 3* and fully equipped with every possible thing you could need, we go the extra mile to ensure the cottages are cleaned from top to bottom after every single guest, please see previous feedback from other satisfied guests. Only 1 other cottage can walk past I'm sorry this was too much for you. The town centre is 0.6 of a mile we believe this is a short walk, as you explained due to your health issues you struggled with the walk. My team worked hard to accommodate all your requests. • "In general the facilities were perfectly adequate, my granddaughter and I had a lovely stay, as did my dog, Fen."

It would be useful to have one cupboard in the kitchen left empty for guests to put their own food and I have suggested that a rubber mat is available for the bath. Being able to put all rubbish in one bin was a bonus! Guests need to be aware that the outside space is small - if you have a dog with you you'll need to take a short walk morning and evening! This cottage is very well situated to explore the Dales. Certainly we would recommend a visit to Easby Abbey and Round Howe - a lovely National Trust area just a short ride from the cottage.

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
