  • "My wife and i had a brilliant 2 week stay in this well equipped and cosy cottage."

The location was perfect for our needs to travel around and visit all the pretty villages as well as York and Whitby etc.The village is very quaint and peaceful so with the comfy bed we had 14 nights excellent sleep. The owner Sue was always contactable even though there was no need as we had everything at hand.We will definitely return to the area as we couldnt visit everywhere and i would definitely give this holiday/ cottage 10 out of 10.

  • "Great location and lovely garden Everything provided for a comfortable stay including welcome bottle of Presecco Just two things lets it down is the state of the windows in and out which don’t look as though they haven’t been cleaned for months and being asked to put other guests recycling and bins out for collection."

Recycling boxes were piled high with beer bottles etc one box of mixed recycling wasn’t emptied when we left it out either. We didn’t attempt to put the garden recycling bin out. We don’t mind recycling but do object to clearing other people’s rubbish.

  • "Lovely cottage But a few disappointments No outdoor wooden furniture as before, only two small camping chairs."

Could not alfresco. No instructions on how to use gas fire. No information left for emergencies ie chemist’s ,Dr etc. outdoor rubbish bin full so we had to balance ours on top at end of stay.. The details for collection s inside the cottage are out of date. On your pictures the gardens look wonderful but this is the second time we have found the planted areas chocked with weeds some could be harmful to children. These are mainly small points but they all add up. Saying all this we will be pleased to return as all can be rectified.

  • "What a wonderful cottage in a superb location for scenic drives over the moors to day trips on the shore."

The house was beautifully equipped for home cooking and the High Street is just a five minute walk away with at least three pubs, a post office, and a convenience store for the inevitable ingredient you forgot to pack. There is secure private parking and wonderful views, and the owner is gracious and helpful. We'll be back for sure!

There is an outstanding issue with a bathroom blind which will take longer as it needs skilled attention . Generally very happy at Howe Green and we intend to re visit .

  • "We have stayed at this property twice in the past with absolutely no problems."

This time on arrival, we thought the cleaners were still in as the vacuum cleaner was on it's side at the foot of the stairs with the lead trailing around the room and rubbish left on the downstairs windowsill. However they weren't and it had just been left. There were cobwebs in the downstairs toilet and the toilet brushes were filthy. Several of the cups were dirty. There was no TV reception as the local mast was down. There was an extremely unpleasant smell from the drains when any water was put down the kitchen sink. I spoke to the owner about this and on the Thursday a plumber came out and unblocked the drains. Regarding the lack of TV reception, the owner was aware of this and advised us to buy some DVDs from a charity shop. I replied that if we had been informed of this in advance we could have made alternative arrangements e.g brought a laptop. Not very satisfactory.

A couple of small things: (1) No instructions on how to use the thermostat (2) Instructions about when to put out bins were not clear - we put out the recycling and garden waste bins on the stated days but they were not collected (possibly because it was a fortnightly collection)

  • "It was the most amazing cottage we had ever stayed at."

Everything was perfect apart from not recognising the actual cottage compared to the photo. This was due to the fact that the photo was a picture of the front and the one we actually saw was the garden side from the back. After riding up and down the street 4 times we found it, but no complaints. I will certainly be looking for another holiday with Sykes.
