  • "Lovely little comfortable clean cottage, great place to stay for exploring Scarborough, Whitby and surrounding areas."

The welcome pack was a nice,a lovely little extra touch and the added games and items in the drawers for the kids was also a great little perk. We did login to the cottages WiFi which worked and gave good internet service, however if you didn’t logon I think you would struggle to get internet as without this I was struggling. The pub over the road The three Jolly Sailors, food was lovely and our dog was welcomed too, so a visit here was fully enjoyed and I definitely recommend. I think maybe check out could be extended to 11.00 am as 10.00 am seemed a struggle with the kids in tow, but that doesn’t take away what a great place it was. Thanks for your hospitality, a great break first of many.

Kitchen is more than adequate, with a welcome pack that puts all others cottages to shame. Lounge was comfortable with reclining sofa, only little niggle probably need a newer tv, and it’s only my personal opinion. The bathroom was more than adequate. Bedrooms are beautifuly decorated with a double room and a twin room which actually makes a king size bed not a double as described in your listing on Sykes, this was a bonus as we are used to a king size, and is a big selling point!, maybe need to change the listing, they were ever so comfortable. We were ever so close to several great walks (cleaveland walk) and also the fantastic cinder path to all local seaside places, Scarborough 5 miles lovely walk. Thank you so much Sharon for a unforgettable stay, we will be back

Our only gripe really is that the two single beds are very small for adults but not sure the room would accommodate any larger ones ! The welcome pack is very gratefully received. The cottage is very well placed being on main road opposite a pub. It would benefit from having drawers upstairs instead of a shelf. Also the fridge freezer could do with replacing instead of having a fridge high up in a cupboard. The shower is quite temperamental and difficult to switch on off. The twin beds are very small and not a single size so difficult for an adult to sleep in. We would stay again though.

  • "Although the cottage was generally well presented, there were a few issues we came across during our stay."

The rug in the dining room needs cleaning or replacing as there are quite a few marks on it. There is also a large stain on the landing carpet and spots in the main bedroom. The front garden needs a complete overhaul as it is currently so overgrown, the front door is inaccessible. You can only get wifi in the dining room where the router is, the signal is lost as soon as you leave that room. I agree with a previous reviewer, the fridge/freezer is totally inadequate for two people let alone four and should be replaced with a full size larder fridge and the fridge above the oven replaced with a small freezer. We did mention a couple of other things (microwave, baking trays, kettle) to the owner as we discovered a wasps nest being established next to the bathroom window. This was sorted the next day though and assurance the other things would be ordered. Although it seems picky, little things like a set of plastic/melamine chopping boards in addition to the wooden ones, a casserole dish with lid, slotted spoon and a spaghetti server would be very useful. We tried to use the gas fire but it wouldn't stay lit (I believe other guests had the same problem). Luckily the temperature went up and we didn't need to use it. However, none of these things ruined our holiday, we thoroughly enjoyed the location and the off street parking behind the cottage was a great bonus, along with the sun trap of a patio. These shouldn't be taken as criticism but helpful observations as maybe the owners don't have time to examine everything when it is being rented out fully.

  • "Overall, we found the cottage very adequate."

However the following was noted or would be appreciated: - the beds were a little tired - a handle on the wall to assist climbing in and out of the bath to get a shower would be safer - a smart TV would be appreciated - few bin liners would have been handy instead of just the one in the bin - a suggestion to exchange the tiny fridge freezer to a normal height fridge with no freezer - a suggestion to exchange the newish smallest fridge for a same sized freezer On 3 days/nights entering the kitchen, we saw some very large slugs, one in a cupboard and one getting into a drawer and others on the floor, these didnt get in via an open door etc as it was closed, we believe they got in via the rear of one or more of the kitchen units, we temporarily solved this by sprinkling some salt on them to kill them and onto various spots in the kitchen, we didnt see any again as of the salt but it didnt leave a nice feeling because of food being around, items in drawers and cupboards and kitchen surfaces, we felt we had to wash everything before using etc as slugs carry, if infected, rat lungworms that can be passed onto humans so with this in mind, the slug problem should be looked into by the owner even if it means pulling out the units as we believe there will be holes or badly sealed pipework/wiring etc where they are getting in especially with it being an old cottage, though this can be solved despite the age of the property. We do not believe they were getting in via the door open or closed. On the plus side, it is a lovely cottage and relaxing, we didnt find the traffic a nuisance at all, due to the thick walls. The garden was a lovely private sunny treat. There were lots of plug sockets throughout the property and it was nice and warm in the cooler nights. The parking was also adequate.

Unfortunately it was in need of a good deep clean. Now this cottage allows dogs. We always take our dog with us but this is the first time we have entered a home and it to stick of dogs urine. It was obvious that dogs have urinated everywhere. The floor was so dirty we got out the unused mop and bucket from the cupboard and washed the floor several time. We continued to wash it each day but it did not help to lift the smell of urine. The full length curtains were stained where dogs had cocked their legs against them. If the task of deep cleaning the cottage was undertaken I am sure it would help but it has to be kept on top of.

We found the beds to be very comfortable, as was the settee, and all was very clean. Little touches such as pictures and ornaments gave it a homely feel. Scarborough is only 2 miles away, Ravenscar, with it's stunning scenery is a 15 minute drive, and Whitby is a 25 minute drive. The North Yorkshire Moors and the Moors steam railway can be reached within less than an hour's drive. To see the Heather clad Moors flowering, visit in August, or visit Ravenscar in April or May to view the hillsides a mass of the golden flowers of the Broom and Gorse. All in all, a great location to tour the area.

We were very impressed with just how nice the property was, the pictures don’t do it justice. The cottage was nice and toasty for our arrival, the owner was extremely helpful and excellent at communicating with us. There was a nice selection of bits in the kitchen for our arrival, including a very tasty Yule Log.. a nice touch! The property on a whole was well furnished and certainly big enough for our family of 3, 2 bedrooms upstairs are spacious (1 double and 2 singles that can be zip linked together). Bathroom was always nice and warm with a generous sized bath. The living room again was spacious enough, the reclining leather sofa and the large swivel chair offer plenty of comfort. The dining area again was of good size with a nice big enough table that helped serve our Christmas dinner. The kitchen is a little small but not a problem for us, same with the garden patio but again not a problem, the fact it is well enclosed is a big plus. Location wise is pretty perfect, less than 10 minutes and you’re in Scarborough, plenty of walks nearby plus east driving distance to places like Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Dalby Forest. Overall we had an amazing break, so much so that we have already told the owner that we are thinking of re-booking for later in the year.

The only downside we do have was the curtains in the bedrooms. Neither sets of curtains appeared to fit the windows correctly and the blinds were not of a good enough quality to block the light. Due to staying in summer months with small children when they wake up at the crack of dawn with the sun coming through thinking its time to get up! A superb welcome tray on arrival - the bacon was gorgeous but I never got to try the chocolate cake unfortunately. The pub across the road was ideal for meals and a pleasant afternoon drink in the sun - although it does get busy on Sundays. There are a few niggles - a DVD player would not go amiss, the back door lock was a bit sticky, no operating instructions for the cooker and the welcome pack could include a lot more info, especially around recycling glass and plastics. The only negative is the size of the fridge - they are not kidding when they describe it as small.
