Clean and cosy, the bed was very comfortable and the cottage was well equipped. A very well prepared handbook for guests and information on the surrounding area was appreciated. I have no doubt we will be back. Thank you for a lovely stay.

  • "The cottage was a home from home."

You could chill out and relax. The information book supplied by the owners covered everything so was great to refer to. Thought the busy road was going to be a problem noise wise but the double glazing reduced this. The stairs in the cottage are steep so I'd echo the owners advice of not suitable for people with reduced mobility. Cottage is a great base to explore the surrounding area. The Stiddy is well worth a vist lovely staff & food. All in all a great stay

Thank you for your 5 star review. We are delighted that you had such a relaxed and comfortable stay, and that you found Lythe Cottage to be a great base to explore the area. we also think The Stiddy is a lovely pub! The double glazing is a new addition. We know that traffic noise can be a concern for some people, so we also went for the higher grade, "accoustic glass" in the bedroom. Property Owner

  • "This was a lovely stay in the grade 2 listed cottage but if I have one criticism is the comfort of the settee."

Everything else was good with the amenities which included the bus service right outside the door which ran between Middlesbrough and Whitby. This service was a better option than using my car. The Stiddy next door was an added bonus. I would defininetely stay again

Thank you for your review and for the wonderful comments that you also left in the guest book. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The sofa has recently had it's cushions re-stuffed, but we know it can be a very personal thing, so we also provide plenty of additional covers and throws. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage with quality decor and furnishings, plus well equipped kitchen."

I appreciated the milk and biscuits, and dog biscuits, on arrival. Bus service was frequent and reliable so I mostly left my car at the property. Enjoyed meals at the pub next door and at the Hart in Sandsend. I'd definitely stay here again.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and that you found the cottage to be comfortable and well equipped. If and when you do stay again you might find a few changes to make it even better ! We also agree with you that the bus service is so convenient and really opens up possibilities to explore the coast without a car. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was absolutely beautiful."

It was exactly as we pictured it from the photos. Very comfortable and warm and cosy. The log burner was great and got really hot. Bed was very comfortable with plenty of storage for clothes. Well stocked kitchen with plenty of appliances and utensils, with milk and tea-coffee to start us off. There was even dog bowls, blankets and treats for Daisy our dog.The cottage was very clean and presentable. The Stiddy next door did excellent food as did the Hart inn in Sandsend. Lovely walk into Whitby and great bus service to get back ( very steep hill from Sandsend did it once, not again) . Overall had a really good relaxing stay and would highly recommend Lythe cottage

Thank you very much for your lovely review. We are so pleased that the three of you had such a nice stay. Yes, the hill from Sandsend gives wonderful views but can certainly be a workout! Thank goodness for the bus Property Owner

  • "The property is feet away from a very busy road."

The road noise is high and for us was a constant irritation. Particularly so in the early hours of the morning. there were other issues with the property which we have raised with the owners. These are subjective observations so I do not intend to make them public. I am sure the owners will review them and act as they feel is appropriate. On a positive note, the owners acted very promptly to resolve one particular issue. Also, the property is well placed for catching the X4 bus in either direction which opens up the possibility for walks on the coastal path. there is a friendly pub next door but opening times are limited off season

We are delighted that you found the cottage to be well placed for accessing a range of local amenities. We are also pleased that when you reported a faulty electrical item, we were able to replace it for you the next day with a minimum of inconvenience. The photos on our listing do clearly show the cottage next to the road and this is also quite clearly mentioned in the text. Of course sensitivity to traffic noise is a personal/subjective thing, (and as you say, the comments and suggestions that you sent us separately are also matters of personal preference). But we will consider those comments and have already reduced the number of mugs in the cupboard as you suggested! Property Owner

  • "Charming little cottage set in a beautiful area."

We both fell in love with the property. We appreciated having the little comforts being readily available like milk in the fridge, tea, coffee & sugar, the wood burner stocked and ready to go. Cannot fault how well stocked with utensils the kitchen was. Had all the the appliances needed to keep the property clean. We adored having the games to play and books to read. A slight inconvenience was having no hot water in the basin in the bathroom and not getting the digital TV to work, however we weren't there to watch TV. The building is stunning and would love to know the period of the property. We would definitely recommend staying here and will be returning in the future. Ben and Emily

Thank you for your feedback. We are so happy that you had a lovely stay. It's a shame that you didn't mention the problem with the TV during your stay. Another guest brought it to our attention this week and we realised the TV isn't working properly. We have replaced it with a new one. The plumber has also sorted out the hot water in the bathroom basin. Thank you once again, Claire and Richard Property Owner

  • "The cottage was stunning and exactly what we needed."

Well equipped and warm (we stayed in February) everything had been thought of from kindling for the fire to dog blanket and biscuits. Thank you! Everything was clean and comfortable and in good working order. The Stiddy Pub next door was so welcoming and the food was outstanding. The bus stops right outside the cottage and runs regularly until late in the evening. The village shop was well stocked and very friendly too. We'd highly recommend Lythe Cottage for a peaceful stay in a lovely village. Thank you
