  • "Mr. and Mrs."

Murray are fantastic hosts, very knowledgeable about the local area and were able to suggest some lovely walks taking in the beautiful scenery around Middleham. The Roundhouse is a very romantic place offering stunning vistas of the Yorkshire Dales from right outside the door. Middleham is a fantastic base if you want to visit Wensleydale Creamery, Aysgarth Falls, Forbidden Corner (great for kids and adults alike), or just go for long pleasant walks in the countryside, maybe taking a walk with an Alpaca too. You won't be disappointed if you book and feel sure that you will visit again and again. Just a wonderful experience, thank you.

It's next to a busy road of cars, bikes and tractors. Not just during the day. We're use to quiet village with no traffic going by us. It has everything you need but it's quite snug. Ideal for a base. We did experience a problem with the shower stopping. The owner came and sorted it but unfortunately it happened again the next day. After driving 5 hrs, we were looking forward to a relaxing week to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Unfortunately it rained most of the week also. I'm sure it would suit those looking for a property in a small village.

Roger was a great host, giving us information about the local area; the best places to eat and drink - of which there are many - and walks in the stunning northern Dales. He responded immediately to a slight issue with the property and could not have been more helpful. We had a very enjoyable stay and can highly recommend this property.

  • "Great charming accommodation ideal for a couple."

Owner Rodger extremely informative and helpful with lots of information on pubs, places to visit etc. Shower and toaster a bit temperamental but added to the charm. Could be in the middle of the countryside even though it is in the village. Some nice pubs, our favourite was the Black Bull, about 50 meters from the cottage. The only thing which could be improved was a skylight in the bedroom which did not have a blind so the room was light by 5AM. However, this does mean you can get up early to watch the race horses train on the Gallops above the village.

Rodger and Hilary were great hosts and keep a very smart and tidy Roundhouse. A little idea they have is a book inside where guests can share experiences of places to eat, visit, see etc in the area which is a very handy tool. Roger couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful from the outset and we were made to feel at home right away. The views and the sunsets and sunrises are incredible and storms Dudley and Eunice decided to give us a miss which was nice of them so no dramas at all for the whole week. Middleham is a small village dwarfed by the Castle which looms above it. The Black Bull, The Richard 3rd and the Dante are 3 Inns all within yards of each other and although quiet at this time of year it is not hard to imagine summer nights sat outside with the very friendly locals...and to top it off a Chippy with Fish and chips to die for nestled in between them. Horses are the name of the game here and the village is surrounded by riding stables of several top trainers and horses being taken out to the gallops are a regular and pleasant distraction from the tractors. 5 minutes away is Leyburn...yet another pleasant village with more stores for local shopping. Who needs Spain when we have little gems like this on our doorstep? We certainly don't.

It is very important that our valued visitors enjoy their holiday with us. On arrival, whilst being welcomed to the Cottage, all of our guests are asked to inform us immediately of an concerns or requirements they may have during their stay. This support is also outlined in our information pack. It is therefore somewhat disappointing, that having been in general conversation, several times, with the guest during her stay, that no mention was made of the above comments, notification of which would have allowed to respond to her concerns at the time. • "Nothing went wrong, it was just that the instructions about parking my vehicle were misleading."

On arrival in Middleham I left my vehicle in the square and walked in under the archway as instructed in order to ascertain that I would have enough turning space for my vehicle, which is rather large, and naturally I expected that this would be where I was to park my vehicle for the duration of my stay. My host then explained that I had to drive down the main road and follow him as he was on foot. In all fairness, he did say that I was welcome to park in this lovely area with its trees and plentiful parking but it would then involve a walk down to the property, not convenient if one were carrying heavy bags. He then stopped in the road opposite the cottage and stood pointing to a small parking space at the end of a lay-by where several vehicles were already parked. This was to be where I was to park. Fortunately, I only experienced difficulty in finding this space empty once during my stay, but I would point out that it was a public car parking area and not a private allocated space as inferred in the property details and having to park there, whilst convenient for the cottage, was not as I had been led to believe from the details that had been supplied to me.

The property has it's own parking space. However the weather on your arrival was showery and the owner wanted you to park closer to the cottage to ensure a quick transfer of your luggage. The parking space you were offered was an alternative and the owner assisted in carrying your bags into the cottage to help. You were informed that you were welcome to park your car in the designated parking area if you wished. As noted in the property details the cottage benefits from a private off road parking area, which has unrestricted availability for guests staying in The Roundhouse. Property Owner
