  • "When we first viewed the property there was 7 steps to enter which would have been difficult, however at the side of the lodge there was an entrance with only 2 steps which would have been ideal if they had not been completely blocked off with a big box."

    This we only discovered on arrival. My wife suffers from osteo arthritis currently waiting for surgery, because of this she feels the cold more than most. To be sent an e-mail that the temperature should be 20°/21° which was ridiculous and more so turned off completely at night as it was never mentioned in the booking. We have been using lodges all over Britain for many years and never had restrictions in heating. We did notice when we increased the heating shortly afterwards it had gone cold, on investigation we found out the heating system hive can be controlled by the owner and quite frankly found it upsetting that our movements were being monitored. The overall appearance of the lodge was general clutter, family clothes left, half used toiletries and foodstuffs dry goods left also dishwasher had dirty dishes inside when we arrived. The ensuite shower was a hazard as there was no where to put shower gel etc. Finally, we can't understand how anyone could possibly clean the lounge area with the amount of soft toys and personal ornaments, it felt like walking into someone's private home who was expected back in a couple of hours. We were very very disappointed as Badgers Retreat was a superb holiday destination.

The village and civil parish of Hipswell makes up the northern part of Catterick Garrison, Richmondshire. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book, 1086, as being in the hundred of "Land of Count Alan" and retains parts of its history with its handful of quaint churches. Visitors can enjoy playing a game of putty at Catterick Golf Limited and stretching their legs on the village's vast playing fields. Hipswell is served by multiple amenities, including: schools, supermarkets, convenience stores and eateries, meaning visitors won't have to travel far for the things they need during their stay. The village also boasts ample access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, being in Swaledale itself, with the 268 miles-long Pennine Way trail to walk, the glorious limestone formation of Malham Cove to explore and the striking ruins of Bolton Priory to marvel at.
