  • "The days we had in Daffodil Cottage were just what we needed."

Sarah is smashing! Relaxed and interesting. What was less than satisfactory was the service provided by the Sykes Cottages Co. Bunging an extra fee (Named as "Management???) after the quote had been given. Sykes Cottages won't be used again.

  • "Lovely rustic barn conversion which was a perfect base for us whilst visiting family and old haunts."

The drive in was an adventure but once we knew the way in and out again it made accessing the property very easy. Very peaceful and relaxing location with great views of the moors (when the mist and mizzle lifted), The local pub, The Fox and Hounds was warm and welcoming. The cottage had everything we needed, even a welcome pint of milk and loaf of bread which was very much appreciated. The bed was comfortable if a little squeaky at times, the shower was amazing. A lovely place to relax and unwind.

Set in quite beautiful scenery, rabbits, birds, horses , chickens. Ted the dog and the most friendly host Sarah. It is a brilliant location to discover old and new places to visit. Whitby 15 miles away, Goathland is about 25 minutes away. The cottage had everything that we needed and was comfortable enough for us. Didn't want to leave

  • "Could do with more space for parking, not much room to manoeuvre."

Disappointed there was no outdoor space for dogs, shower was nice and bed was comfortable. Kettle could do with replacing as lots of timescale . Very steep off road lanes to the cottage and cottage itself is very compact and not very comfortable on sofa, stairs are dangerous as very slippy. Mirrors in odd position in bedroom for drying hair etc . Cute cottage but could do with a little more attention to detail. Landlady came across slightly sarcastic. But all in all was ok lovely views

  • "We loved our stay at Daffodil Cottage, especially the secluded location, providing dark skies and total peace on an evening."

If you truly want to get away from it all, this is for you. There are shops a short drive away in Castleton, and stunning countryside on the doorstep. The Cottage is rustic and stylishly fitted out, cosy, and with a comfy bed and Chesterfield sofa. Sarah, the host, is very friendly and whilst she is happy to chat, she will leave you be whilst you're away. Her dog, Ted, is lovely, too. We'll be going back.

    Many thanks Property Owner

  • "Sorry but we felt rather disappointed in this cottage."

For the money I expected a few luxuries, like tables beside the bed to put a cup on, not a dressing table with no access under the roof beams. It would have been nice to have a mirror with a shelf for makeup that was lit enough to see and/or a dressing table. The sofa was so slippery it was barely possible to sit on. The kitchen had the basics but I felt, as in other reviews sadly, that I had to wash things before use. The cupboard cupboard for food had sticky shelves which I covered in paper towel and the frying pans had to be washed before use to get rid of the grease still on them. One of the lamps didn’t work and had a broken plug. Thankfully the bed was comfortable and the shower worked well. The bathroom was very clean. Generally though, I’m afraid, it was not à comfortable experience and we did not wish to linger longer. I was shocked to find that the cottage that I had paid a lot of money for, for 3 nights, was definitely not the end to our holiday that I was looking forward to. I paid almost half of this to two other companies and they were well appointed and pristine- a hotel and a private accommodation.

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry for these issues you found, I will amend what I can. Property Owner

  • "The cottage has great potential and it’s in a lovely spot but it needs a bit of basic maintenance and refurbishment, and a declutter."

E.g. the shower fitting is loose and unusable. The pillows are ancient.

Thank you for your feedback. The property is indeed in a lovely location and has been a successful holiday let for many years. The cottage is of a very high standard with top quality fixtures, fittings and furnishings throughout. These comments are very out of character for this cottage and as you can see, the recent customers at Wildflower cottage which is next door gave very positive comments. Both properties are very similar to each other. The pillows are all new and in excellent condition. They are checked on every changeover. The shower has been fixed. We pride ourselves in offering an excellent holiday experience for all customers and are hand if you need anything from us during your stay. We didnt receive any calls or messages from you and would have been only too happy to help Once again, thank you for your comments Property Owner

We were however disappointed at the standard of cleanliness, it was impossible to walk anywhere barefoot without collecting dog hairs from previous occupants! Also details like grime under the loo seat, cobwebs and dust in the curtains and a manky toaster and kettle could so easily be improved with little effort or expense.

It was just comfortable for a few nights, clean and facilities were what was expected and of course dog friendly. The property had fantasist views into the valley and the North York moors beyond, well off the beaten track down a gated road, which suited us. Chickens in the yard and ponies in the stables, sheep on the moor and rabbits every where. Due to a booking problem it wasn't quite ready on arrival but was soon sorted and made ready. The bathroom was clean as was the kitchen and linen. A big log fire kept us warm in the evenings. Pubs and eateries not far away and easy driving to Whitby and the beaches, moors and valleys

Never saw the owner to enquire about anything, the location and surroundings were lovely just a shame about the cleanliness

The cottage itself is very comfortable. The rustic decor is enhanced by the very attractive original paintings that hang on the walls. A wood burning stove keeps the place nice and toasty on chilly evenings. The view from the front of the cottage is simply stunning and from the back window you can watch the rabbits, which are extremely numerous, grazing on the back lawn. Free range hens wonder around the farmyard with horses and dogs completing the picture. Plenty of information was available with useful suggestions of nearby places to visit although many fine walks are right on the doorstep. Highly recommended.
