  • "We had a delightful stay at Butter Cross Cottage."

All the recommendations were very helpful, in particular the Leeds Arms pub and the fish & chip shop down the lane. We made use of all the newly acquired casserole dishes

But as mentioned by a previously guests we actually wanted to cook a Caserole and also Heat up some food but the lack of any type of dish to do this in was Disappointing ! Beds were really comfy The Leeds Arms was Lovely as was the Scarborough Arms food was Smashing but not for the faint hearted Mega portions!

Thanks for your feedback and glad you liked the property and was impressed with the cleanliness, we do try our best to make sure this is the case for every holiday. So sorry we missed the previous feedback regarding oven dishes to cook with or use to heat food up in, we have been out and bought some dishes so hopefully this will not be an issue in the future. • "Butter Cross is well situated for the main attractions of Scarborough."

Property was exceptionally clean and comfortable with everything you should need. Rear paved area could do with a makeover. Parking was an issue; once parked don't move your car or you'll lose your spot within minutes. Perfect location for the castle and the town. Recommend The Leeds pub, right on the doorstep and very friendly.

  • "A home away from home, Butter Cross is superbly situated for easy access to every amenity you need to enjoy your holiday."

Literally, only a stones throw away from the beach, shops, bars and amusements. The en-suite bedroom provides you with a sea view and the other double bedroom is spacious. The smaller bedroom with the bunk bed is perfect for children. All beds are really comfortable. You need to be savvy when it comes to parking, if you do leave your space it will be taken in a matter of minutes. We left our car in the same spot all week (parking permits supplied) and used the superb bus service (which is incredibly cheap) to travel to Whitby, Filey, and Bridlington. If you need an excellently located property for your stay, then Butter Cross is the place for you. Thank you The Whitaker family

  • "Fantastic property in a fab location."

Ideal for families as it is close to the beach and amusements. The property lies just below the church and castle, a bit of a steep climb but worth it, then a nice walk down to Peasholme park and the north side. The property is clean and tidy, this was our second visit and with having young children it just made sense. If we visit Scarborough again, I would look this property up.

The only negative things is the parking but that's because of being very near the beach and amenities it's hard to get a space. But you can park at the park and ride for £12 for the week.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Buttercross."

Upon arrival we had a welcome pack of coffee, tea and biscuits and also some milk in the fridge which was very much appreciated. The house was spotlessly clean and decorated very nicely throughout. Very comfortable beds with lovely luxury bedding. The only thing I feel that could be improved is the kitchen. Thankfully I wasn’t planning on cooking much but I felt there was very little in the way of cookware and bakeware, just literally the bare minimum not even a mixing bowl, and what bit they had was not very good quality. But that aside the location is absolutely perfect as it’s literally a 2 minute walk to get to the seafront and only about 5 minutes to get into the main town. I would definitely recommend the property if you’re after a nice little break and want all amenities close by. Simon the owner was very easy to get hold of if any problems and cared very much that everything was ok for us. Thanks Simon for a very lovely stay.

  • "The Buttercross provides a great holiday base as it’s really close to everything that wonderful Scarborough has to offer."

Very close to the beach and seafront and a short walk into the town with easy access to both bays. Some really great eateries on the doorstep including the best chippie in the town (The Lifeboat) as well as some more sophisticated restaurants and bars. The cottage is warm so works well for an off season break too. The owner is friendly and very accommodating to ensure you get the best out of your stay.

  • "Very disappointed in what is my very last holiday due to health."

We were impressed with the house when we got there but not the horrible yard. Unfortunately things started to go wrong the first night. The back door handle sheared of when we went to lock the door. I reported this immediately to Sykes. The next morning the en suite toilet started pouring water and would not stop. We reported this and we’re offered a full refund on the Monday or we were told the repairs would be done that day. We stayed out with our elderly dog until 10:15 pm to allow the repairs to be done and hopefully get on with our holiday and be able to use the en suite bedroom and the yard for the dog and any washing. We came back and neither of the jobs had been fixed. I contacted Sykes again and was told they would contact the owner again and someone would ring us in the morning as it was getting late. We then had to phone Sykes again and were told because we stayed that night we could only have half of our money back. We only stayed that day as we were told the repairs would definitely be done. I can believe one part might not have turned up but not both. If they had said the repairs will definitely not be done we would have left immediately. We stayed 3 nights constantly chasing these repairs not what you want on your holidays. On another note. The socket by the kettle did not work and one of the windows in the front bedroom seals were broken and the window was all misted up. We also reported this. One last thing if you don’t like cats this is not the cottage for you. The cat deterrent at the front door emits a loud noise that pierces your ears but does not seem to bother all the cats

Firstly I am glad that you were impressed with the house on arrival, as we work very hand in making sure our properties are of the highest standards so that guests have the most enjoyable holiday they can. I am unclear as to what the issues was with the yard as it is as pictures on Sykes, as well as having a front garden to use if the yard is not to your liking. In regards to the door handle and the toilet, unfortunately things like this happen from time to time, I was only at the house a hour before the guests checked in and non of these issues were present at this time. We did do our upmost to sort these issues as soon as they were reported, however due to needing a specialist part for the door and struggling to get a plumber who had any availability the jobs did go into the next day. I advised Sykes of this and they passed on the information as well as an apology. A full refund was offered from the Saturday that the guests checked in until the Monday afternoon, as they were still there on Tuesday I felt that it was fair to offer a 50% refund out of good will. Now that the socket has been reported, it has been fixed, and a new window has been ordered, again we were not aware of this issue. The cat deterrent is there to make sure that the local cats do not do their business in the front garden and it only comes on when the sensor is triggered. We work hard with the 3 house we have on Sykes, but from time to time things outside of our control happen. We will always try and work with customers to try and address any issues a soon as we can, but somethings are outside of our control or area of expertise. I am sorry that the holiday was not enjoyed and the guests decided to leave half way through with half of their money that they originally paid. Property Owner

  • "Couldn’t open front room windows."

The smell as you walk in is vile of cat pooh where cats had been going toilet right under the window by the front door the back garden bin and floor was covered in maggots we took pictures one night when it rained it was like something from a horror movie you couldn’t see the floor for maggots.the recycling bin was already full to the brim when we got there, the sofa and carpet was so grubby we had to hoover all under the cushions when we got there the windows were so dirty too and lastly the shower was either scolding hot or freezing was so much effort to get it to stay warm. Only positive I have is the location of the property and safe to say we left it a lot cleaner than when we arrived

Dear guest, I am so disappointed to read your review as we pride ourselves on providing guests with the best possible stay and holiday. I only wish you would have contacted us or Sykes on your arrival as there was no contact made at all, so that we could have dealt with any issues immediately had there been any. In response to your review we have been and checked on the issues highlighted: * The bins - if you found these to be full they have now both been cleaned and emptied and we will politely encourage future guests to put the wheely bins out for collection. * Cats – to discourage cats from visiting our front garden we have put down new slate and cat repellent. * Cleanliness – I find this comment about our house really disappointing. We cleaned the house ourselves on this occasion and are certain it was spotless. We are really happy with the high standards we maintain, having always had positive feedback in our guest book regarding cleanliness. I really wish you had contacted us on your arrival so that we could have dealt with any issues. We value our guests greatly and take on board any feedback. I do hope this does not stop future bookings of our properties for yourselves and other guests. Owner of Butter cross Property Owner
