  • "Great house, great location and great communication from the owners."

The house has plenty of room, is very well equipped and even though there is no specific parking spot it really wasn't an issue to find a space close by and the parking scratch cards are great - much appreciated, as was the welcome pack! The beds, pillows and mattresses are super comfortable and clean. The bedding and towels spotless! My only (hopefully constructive) comment would be that although the bedrooms and living room were very clean, the kitchen and bathroom were not as good. There was black mould in the washer drawer and in the shower cubicle, and a build up of hard water staining on the bathroom taps - all easy to rectify. The fridge needed to be wiped out before we used it and there was dirty fluff stuck to the bottom of the kitchen table benches when we pulled them out to use. None of this spoiled our stay and I would highly recommend this property. It's really close to the main high street and all the shops, you're spoilt for choice which bay to walk to as both are equally as close and it's close to all the road links to travel out of Scarborough. Thanks for making our week in Scarborough so enjoyable!

Thank you for your feedback. We are so glad you had a nice time at Hartwood Cottage. We will be sure to feedback the issues you have raised to our Housekeeper and get these rectified. We pride ourselves on providing a comfortable stay for our guests and hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Overall this is a loverly, well situated cottage, & the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into guests needs as it was very well equipped & the Welcome Box very much appreciated."

If I could make a couple of well-meaning suggestions: 1 whilst we fully appreciate the need to keep dogs downstairs there was no restraining barrier, such as a stair gate, from any of the main rooms in the cottage so we had to leave the clothes airer across the bottom of the stairs at all times 2 anyone with any level of restricted mobility, even just unsteadiness, would need to know both sets of stairs have a turn in them -we managed with my sister but only by assisting her whenever she used the stairs. Otherwise we had a loverly relaxing time in the cottage.

Hi, thank you for feedback, we do appreciate our guests taking time to do so and we are glad you had a enjoyable stay at Hartwood Cottage. Thank you also for raising the two valid points regarding the stair gate and possible access issues for people with restricted mobility. This was never really a consideration when the property was built well over a hundred years ago so we will be in touch with Sykes to see if we can add a note in the description to help our guests in the future. We have considered for a while now about fitting a stair gate but decided against it at the time as it may have impaired people taking suitcases upstairs. However we will definitely revisit this in the near future. Thank you again for your feedback and helping us to improve our guests experience at Hartwood Cottage. Property Owner

What we loved about this cottage as well as the comfort was how fantastic it was as a base,so close to everything like the indoor market, the precinct and the buses which took us to Bridlington,Filey,Whitby and Pickering for days out,and with the cottage being so close to the centre of Scarborough, getting back to the cottage when we were tired was no effort. We will hopefully be returning again next year. All in all a fabulous 2 weeks in an amazing cottage,

Cottage looks nice on photos it was clean but not deep clean shower signs of mould on sealent bathroom sink plug black slime around plug lots of marks on walls cottage on main road no path traffic noise school run noise not in best of areas for a relaxing holiday it is central to facilities beds comfortable could do with TV in bedroom the cottage has some nice touches but let down by location and parking is a nightmare 6 out of 10

The bathroom was indeed deep cleaned and the sealant on the shower cubicle replaced and renewed in the days prior to your arrival so I’m not sure what you found. Many of our guests love the excellent location of Hartwood Cottage and the Old Town in which it is situated, and this was a major reason for our purchase of the property. Unfortunately, we have no control over people walking down the road going about their daily business, even parents taking their children to school, perhaps a holiday deep in the countryside would be more suitable for yourselves instead of a busy resort like Scarborough. The scratch cards we provide free of charge are valid for all the Old Town and whilst we cannot always guarantee parking directly outside Hartwood Cottage you should be able to park a reasonable distance to it. Sea Views from the bathroom on the second floor were amazing and the shower itself was perfect, the cottage itself is only a 5 minute walk either to Scarborough precinct or turn right and the north bay is before you. Must mention the indoor market about 200 yards away, great fresh fruit and veg and even a very good butchers there. The small court yard garden is a lovely place to sit and as its a sun trap when the suns shining its perfect for relaxing. My partner and myself have been visiting Scarborough for the last 20yrs and i can only honestly say that this is without doubt the best quality, comfortable and warmest accommodation we have ever stayed in.

We are a family of four with two children aged 12 and 13 and Hartwood Cottage had plenty of room for us all and is well situated for all the South Beach attractions and the town centre. We felt at home as soon as we walked in, there are lots of lovely touches throughout and the hosts have thought of everything you could ask for and have clearly taken great care in making the property feel like a home from home as opposed to a standard run of the mill holiday rental. • "The cottage was lovely, very comfortable sofas and beds and really well equipped."

Very clean and tidy, only slight downside but not a complaint, the shower tray wasnt emptying very quickly, and when I removed the plug it was clogged with previous users hair, a bit nasty, obviously not be cleaned properly for a long time, otherwise it was great and pint of milk in the fridge would have been nice after a long journey,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad to hear that you had an enjoyable visit to Hartwood Cottage. However we were really sorry to hear that the Housekeeper forget to leave some milk in the fridge for arrival but we do also provide individual UHT milk in case it is needed. The issue with the shower plughole is unacceptable and we have taken steps to ensure that this does not happen again. May we reassure you that in both cases this was an uncommon instance and we pride ourselves on providing a high quality service to our guests. We look forward to welcoming you to Hartwood Cottage in future. Property Owner

Owners were friendly and responsive to email requests and you really feel like they want you to have a great holiday and they have thought of everything to make it happen. Sea view from the top floor bathroom which was lovely every morning. Our little girl wanted to move in, it’s just such a homely place. Comfy beds, great cooking facilities and within 5 minutes walk of the beach, 10 mins to town centre this was a lovely week away. We usually holiday in Wales so this was a change for us but great to be so close to Whitby, Filey, Robin Hoods Bay and many other areas of interest. Scarborough Castle well worth a visit and the whole seafront itself was really clean and pleasant. The only slight irritation was the on street parking, which was a bit hit and miss but overall a great week away...just a bit hilly for my husbands knees and our tripawd dalmatian!! Would recommend this cottage if you like to be close to facilities and dont mind walking uphill.

  • "We had a lovely stay here!"

The house is clean and beautifully decorated. Lots of thoughtful touches - my boys (6 and 4) were so excited about their room; especially staying in the bunkbeds and the fact there were Roald Dahl and Horrid Henry books, a definite hit! Loved the cute seaside theme and there is a selection of toys too. The bathroom is huge and would be perfect for a relaxing bath with a glass of wine (I sadly never got round to it). The 'grown ups' bedrooms are both beautiful and cosy. There are beach toys available and what made our holiday much easier was the fact that Alison provides beach towels.... saving us a lot of space in our cases and a load of washing - thankyou for this, it's rare for a holiday let but really did make a big difference! Location wise you are in a great position for south bay, north bay and the town so a thumbs up there. We always managed to park on the road (permit provided). Lastly great communication from Alison, she has been so kind and helpful!
