  • "We had a fantastic stay at Kittiwake Cottage."

The property was immaculately presented, stylish and comfortable. We had everything we needed for a few days visiting family by the sea. The location is perfect – just a 5 minute walk down to the seafront but on a quiet residential street. We’d love to stay again. Thanks for a wonderful few days!

  • "What a lovely cottage and our second visit this year."

Very comfortable and pleasant accommodation in a quiet and peaceful location. Near enough to all amenities but far enough to not notice.

  • "A lovely property and the best equipped house we’ve stayed in for a long time!"

The only thing I would have liked to have was a safety mat to stand on in the bath when I had a shower.

  • "The cottage certainly lived up to our expectations."

We really appreciated the exceptionally high standard of the fixtures and fittings and the cleanliness throughout the cottage. The welcome gift was a nice touch. One item of concern was the rope handrail on the stairs which gave us some safety concerns and we would recommend a permanent banister be fitted. Laurence & Sally.

  • "The cottage was well equipped and comfortable."

Well positioned for access to amenities. Very quiet late evening which was a delight. Parking was better than expected but we may have been lucky that week. Scarborough Arms close by and well worth a visit for a meal.

We arrived to a little welcome gift which was a lovely touch. You can see that this cottage is a labour of love for the owners and they make it a warm and welcoming place to stay. Thank you for having us, we will most definitely be back!

  • "We took our grandchildren aged 6 and 9 and had a fabulous week."

The cottage has been lovingly restored to a high standard and felt roomy and light. Lots of useful storage including a long bench in the hallway for outdoor shoes etc. We were lucky to get parked right outside and didn’t use the car once. The street is very quiet with no through traffic. The only negative was the rope bannister which my husband found a challenge although his balance is slightly impaired due to Parkinson’s

A few small things would have been nice like hand soap in the bathroom. But generally great.

  • "Kittiwake Cottage was really wonderful, in a good location near the centre of town but also very quiet (apart from the obvious seagulls which we don’t mind because we’re at the seaside!"

) The renovations have been done beautifully which makes the space feel cosy yet contemporary. Lots of storage, the kitchen has everything we needed, including a sea view, and the wine and biscuits were a lovely touch. We enjoyed browsing all the fascinating books and magazines and the box of local information was very useful. We’d definitely return and recommend.

  • "Absolutely beautiful house in a quiet and peaceful location (except for the seagulls!"

) The house has everything you could want or need and is stunningly decorated throughout. It felt like home as soon as we walked in. We took our two young kids (4 &6) and they had a great time. They loved sharing the twin room and thought the kids books that were there were brilliant! Only small issue was parking, which was limited, but we managed to get a spot every day. I imagine it might be trickier in the warmer weather. Really close to the town and beach front but away from the chaos and noise. Absolutely cannot fault it!

  • "Kittiwake cottage was lovely, very homely and comfortable."

I personally loved all the bespoke wood work around the place, a great skill to have! Great attention to detail. Found the double bed mattress a little too soft, but that’s just preference. Parking could also be limited at times. However these are tiny things, overall we had a fantastic stay and would love to return!

The property

Enjoying North Yorkshire's delightful coast in Scarborough is this characterful, mid-terrace cottage in the hilly old town of Scarborough, less than 5 minutes’ walk from the historic Scarborough Castle.

A superb base for a family of four, Kittiwake Cottage offers bespoke wooden fittings and charming, wood flooring throughout.

The house has recently been renovated with a simple elegance throughout by the owner (who is a bespoke furniture designer and joiner by trade).

Upon arrival, make use of the on-street permit parking before making your way inside the cottage.

Make yourselves at home on the spacious, corner sofa in the tastefully furnished living/dining room with a TV available for some evening entertainment.

Progress to the fabulous bespoke, fitted kitchen (with sea glimpse), a space enjoying sleek, wooden units offering generous space for storage, as well as a full range of appliances, including a dishwasher and washing machine.

When the allocated chef of the group has whipped up mouthwatering dishes, be sure to enjoy them at the dining table next door with all the family.

As day turns to dusk, head upstairs to find two thoughtfully laid-out bedrooms, including a double (with a king size bed) with ample storage for your belongings, and a full sized twin that is perfect for the kids; both of the bedrooms have bedside lighting and handy USB ports, so you can easily keep your devices charged throughout your stay.

On the same floor is the bathroom, a space brimming with light, thanks to the large skylight, and enjoying stylish, metro tiling on the walls; after a day packed with activities, nothing beats relaxing amongst the bubbles in the bath in this fabulous spot!

In the warmer months, take your morning coffee out to the secure rear yard, have an early morning stroll on the beach or along the Cleveland Way.

A highlight of the house is that it rests just a stone's throw away from a range of amenities, from the wonderful indoor market hall (do not miss the bakery for one), amply stocked convenience stores and various eateries.

There is so much to do in Scarborough, such as splashing about in the sea on the town's shores or in Alpamare UK, boarding the magnificent Scarborough North Bay Railway, touring the fascinating Scarborough Castle and wandering around the beautiful Peasholm Park; just to mention a few!

Whitby lies further along the coast and is ideal for those with an interest in history, as it is the home of Bram Stoker's Dracula, with Whitby Abbey.

Down the coast is Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve, towering chalk cliffs attracting half a million seabirds between March and October.

Those seeking some adventure will be pleased to know that the North Riding Forest Park isn't far and hosts the marvellous track of Dixons Hollow Bike Park, along with the stunning areas of Adderstone Field, Raptor Viewpoint and Crosscliff & Blakey Topping.

More fun amidst the great outdoors awaits at the North York Moors National Park, or perhaps you'd prefer a day out in Pickering or the coastal destinations of Ravenscar and Filey?

Whether you want to go for a relaxing stroll along the beach, explore the sights or enjoy some quality time together in the cottage, you'll find Kittiwake Cottage has all you need for a wonderful break.
