  • "We had the most amazing weekend at Mill Farm House."

The pictures do not do this place justice, it is the most beautiful place to stay. All the rooms clean and very comfortable in a good location. Good and clear communication from the owner and lovely welcome gifts on arrival made our stay extra special. We enjoyed every minute, thank you so much.

There was 12 of us and there was plenty of room. Both kitchens were well equipped, the bedrooms all very comfortable and the living rooms had plenty of room for us all. We all enjoyed the play room and the board games. The host were incredibly generous with items they left in their welcome package. It was all delicious and very unexpected. Thank you. The host were available if needed and were very friendly and polite. The area is beautiful and we did lots of local walks. Would stay again. Thank you so much for having us.

  • "Wonderful property."

As a group of amateur photographers, we found lots of little nooks and crannies for our pictures and we did not exhaust the possibilities. A few minor negatives: Owing to the size of the property, it would be useful to have numbers on the bedroom doors and indications on the doors as to what is a toilet! The garden gate really needs a dollop of oil, it's painful and akin to a horror movie soundtrack! A door stop or hook for the door between the house kitchen and house WC would be a good idea as there is a bit of a wind tunnel that slams the door and rattles windows! That's about it, minor issues difficult to find because the property is otherwise fantastic and well maintained.

We really enjoyed our stay, the rooms and layout worked well, giving us options. We used both kitchen dining rooms the one in the barn once so we could watch England play, which was a wise choice as the game went to penalties! We had lots of fun playing games, table tennis, croquet and using the fire pit. There is plenty of parking at the house, the village is pretty, it’s only a short walk to the pub, a 25 min walk to Mainsgill Farm shop and a short drive to Richmond. Lindsay was really helpful, good communication, useful information to help us make the most of our stay and responsive to questions.

  • "My friends and I had a very enjoyable long weekend stay at Mill Farm House."

We had incredibly good weather which enabled us to make the most of the garden and outside spaces - We ate outside on the terrace every day, we very much enjoyed playng croquet and sitting around the fire pit in the evening (bring your preferred insect repellant and bite relief). The location was very easy to get to being close to the A66 but allowed us to plan lovely walks directly from the house as well as having Swaledale, Wensleydale and Teesdale all within a very short drive. Indoors the house is spacious, well laid out and extremely well equipped; the beds are very comfortable and there are ample bathrooms. Catering a large group with varied dietary restrictions did involve using ovens in both kitchens and all the firdges. Also we made a point of using all 3 of the indoor sitting areas at least once.

The farm house is very cosy to sit in and chat with the barn being a great party room for our Saturday night. There is plenty of room to sit round the dining table to be able to eat together. There are copious amounts of cleaning and washing-up stuff which is great. We enjoyed a walk out to the Farm shop and had a meal at the Bay Horse (make sure you book in plenty of time). Other than that we sat around in our dressing gowns and chilled (which is great for usually busy people) Some stayed the weekend others the week and some left other days in between. It is a beautiful property with well tended gardens, tasteful decor, lots of living space, and help from the owners when you need it. There are lots of places to explore nearby, but we were just as happy at the house as we were elsewhere. We had a few issues with appliances (the oven in the main house is small and took a long time to heat; the Aga didn't work; the tumble dryer was broken but was replaced while we were there), also one of the showers was iffy and there were a few household items not supplied which would assist when cooking for large numbers (e.g. a blender, decent oven gloves and a knife sharpener). However, the overall quality and comfort of the house were high. All in all, a wonderful, memorable holiday.

It was particularly useful having the separate annex so that we didn't all feel 'on top of each other' and the younger children's earlier bedtimes and parents' home working commitments could be easily facilitated. The construction work nearby was of no bother or consequence at all and both the top and bottom garden were enjoyed at all times of the day. A couple of additional towel hooks in the main house bedroom would have been useful as well as instructions on working the TV in the red sitting-room and the shower in the family bathroom (it was a bit temperamental), but these things aside, there were no issues at all. I would be happy to recommend this property to others as it's in a great location and has everything that is needed for a really enjoyable stay. We stayed here for my In-Laws 50th Wedding Anniversary celebrations. The house was clean, warm, and full of everything you could possibly need to enjoy a weekend with the family. There is more than enough space for big groups to sit together for meals and games. There is also plenty of room to spread out and lots of rooms to explore if you need some quiet time. The games room provided plenty of fun for the younger ones and the oldies. The top garden is safe and secure for dogs and you a stone's throw away from the local pub (check the board for opening times). There are some superb walks right from the front door and if you want to travel a little further afield Richmond and Barnard Castle are within easy driving distance. But you don't need to leave the house - games, books and movies are all ready to go and with more than enough wine glasses, it's easy to relax with a few bubbles! Loved having two kitchens / dining areas - it meant we could use the barn space for eating big meals together and keep the cooking / picky meals to the kitchen in the house. The barn space also has a decent amount of space on the sofas for a large group of people to play party games, or hook up a video game (we brought our own console and games) The garden is wonderful - an initial garden outside the kitchen doors that is totally secure, so great if you have children / dogs who need to spend a bit of time outside. And then further outdoor space with the swing, hanging chair, access to the stream for a paddle and a space for a fire. Great games room with table tennis and table football. The link bedrooms were not a problem - all bedrooms have access to bathrooms via indoor routes, only one bedroom has a bit of a trek at night without going through their neighbour's bedroom. We did tend to use the bedrooms as a through passage during the day instead of going the outside route to the barn, but it wasn't a problem for us. The owner was so accommodating - she knew we were keen to get in early as we'd only booked 3 nights so we wanted to make the most of it, and she communicated when the cleaners were likely to be done so we could get in a bit early. She also messaged me during our stay to tell me that we could have a late check out as the cleaners weren't coming til the following day - made our departure much more relaxed!! There were a couple of issues that the owner noticed during her final checks at check in with me - a broken showerhead and toilet seat. Someone came over the following day to fix both. The check in package was lovely too! Local area is lovely with some nice walks straight from the house (although take an OS map with you for a longer walk as the path becomes less obvious over the farm fields), plenty of activities for younger kids in the area a short drive away. And within an hour's drive there are all sort of stunning places you can visit! Overall we all felt that the amount of space in this house made it one of the better large houses we've stayed in. Everyone had a great time and we're really sorry we're not still there! Thank you!

It is a perfect house for an extended family to stay in. Unlike many other properties, it really does have all the space you need. It was wonderful to all be able to sit together at the dinning room table to eat our meals and to not feel squashed. There are so many plates and cutlery that you never need to worry about running out. Big saucepans and ample trays made the cooking easy. One of the best features is the ample fridge space with two large fridges and two smaller fridges in the kitchens. This helped us to be able to have one big shop for all our food and it easily fit into the fridge and freezers. The two smaller lounges were great when the children wanted to watch TV but the young adults wanted to play the piano! Then in the evening when we all wanted to sit together, the extended lounge in the barn was perfect for all being together. The bedrooms are lovely and my daughter said she had the best nights sleep due to the lovely mattress. The garden areas including the tree swings, the beautiful brook, the bigger grass areas for playing football, the lovely flowers and the well designed seating areas that are placed to catch the sun throughout the day, make the outdoor space perfect. I would highly recommend this house for a perfect family holiday.

The house was full of character and perfect for our large group and the table tennis was a great addition. Comfortable sofas, plenty of space and nice to have other areas for folk to gather if they wanted to sit quietly to read/sew/knit. Great walking right from the door. Extremely helpful, communicative owners who would have (and did) come to help, as soon as there was a need. Lovely flowers, bread and eggs to keep us going until we made our own bread.

  • "Mill Farm House is a fabulous property which had more than sufficient space for our family get together over new year - 10 adults, 2 young children and a small dog."

The property itself has a walled garden at the front which was perfect for the dog and in the summer I would imagine would be absolutely great to sit out and enjoy the sun. Every room was spacious and there were fresh flowers in the farmhouse kitchen and lots and lots of books in the 2 sitting rooms and all soft furnishings in keeping with the age of the property - all in all very charming and cosy! Very easy to regulate the heating temp for the downstairs radiators from thermostat in hall and the log burners could be used as well. When we arrived the owners had provided a welcome pack with bread, locally produced butter and eggs; there were chocolates and wine as well. What a lovely touch! Most of the adults stayed in the main house with the children and parents in the barn conversion. This was a stunning space with fully equipped kitchen and direct access to games room which provided much entertainment for us! We never felt we were on top of each other at all and could spread out and sit and chill or watch TV in another room. It was just perfect in fact! The owners - with whom we were in touch - were very helpful as we had an issue with one of the upstairs taps and Tom dealt with it straight away. The position of the farmhouse is excellent for dog walks as it is just steps away from the stream and walks across the fields and you can walk to Mainsgill Farm Shop in a relatively short time. Richmond and Barnard Castle are very close and there were walks available in Richmond along the river. Ravensworth village itself has large village green, surrounded by lovely cottages; there is a local pub where we went on New Year's Eve for bingo and quiz! It was fun! The walking route from farmhouse to the pub however, was dark and we did need torches particularly as we had the 2 children and dog with us. The children loved it!! All told we had an amazing time getting together and thoroughly enjoyed our visit - we couldn't have wanted for anything. Thanks Lindsay and Tom for all the little touches which made us feel very welcome and our stay so memorable.

  • "There were a few things that were not entirely up to expectations The downstairs bedroom did not have any shower facilities nearby and we had to go upstairs and hope nobody else was using the shower - could turn the downstairs toilet into a toilet/shower room The radiators in the lounges did not always work and the radiators in the other bedrooms did not do a great job - there was no control knobs on them and the heat from them was minimal."

The barn beds at the top of the stairs did not constitute a bedroom and was unusable due to no heating and no privacy The only way through the house to the barn kitchen was through someone's bedroom which was not ideal Otherwise the accommodation was convenient and of a good standard with plenty of room nd well situated

Thank you for your feedback. Mill Farm House is an old stone house with a fully functional central heating system. There has been no other feedback from guests about this. The owner of the cottage is always on hand for anything you need during your stay and would have been happy to help you with the heating if required. We recognize that the connecting bedroom in the barn is not ideal, but it is fully described in the listing. Property Owner

The house was wonderfully comfortable with a big gathering space in the barn, both kitchens worked well for the lavish dinners produced including just the right pots and crockery for the 14 of us. Everyone commended the bedrooms. Even though it rained whilst we were there in late November, there was more than enough to keep us entertained, the Bowes museum, locomotion and bishop Auckland being highlights. So yes a great base. Our lovely hosts had left us loaves of bread, wine and there are plenty of books and games. The TV only got turned on once!!! Perfect.

  • "This is a truly beautiful rural cottage in the heart of stunning Yorkshire landscape."

In fact the word "cottage" is misleading. It is a substantial house with annex, games room, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. The house is warm and cosy, helped along by the wood burning stoves and kitchen range. Stay here undisturbed from any road noise, and enjoy the large gardens next to a babbling brook. A group of us (mature adults with a little dog!) stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate our friend's 70th birthday. The house is really well stocked with quality items, cutlery, crockery, utensils, tables chairs, books and games. We lacked nothing! Lindsay greeted us on arrival and showed us round the house, which we found helpful, as the various stairs and corridors, doors and keys take some getting used to! Every room and bathroom was pristine clean, with lovely duvets and beautifully wrapped towels. I would highly recommend this holiday house for large groups or maybe a couple of families. There is plenty of off road parking and a little pub within walking distance in the village of Ravensworth. You don't have to venture far afield to find market towns and countryside walks. We experienced some very wet weather, and this tested the house to its fullest but there was enough living space for a large group to find its own relaxation areas. Thank you to our hosts for helping us to have a wonderful weekend.

Has everything you could need and each room has its own charm with enough books and games to keep you busy for the foreseeable future! The bedrooms are spacious and accommodating. The outside areas and gardens are amazing we loved the hammock, the kids enjoyed paddling in the stream, and there was enough seating to accommodate all 15 of us. The games room was well used by all the family, although it could do with some soundproofing as we kept the Grandparents awake with our laughter late into the night! The kitchen and larder in the main house was the most well stocked of any rental property I have ever stayed in, with so many pots and pans and crockery and glasses there are more than at home! My Mum with Alzheimer's enjoyed playing the piano with her sister, reminiscing about their childhood - a lovely memory that will stick with me for a while! I can see this being a very popular property to use, such character and charm, low ceilings and beams, beautifully furnished, I would recommend particularly for large parties and we really loved staying here.

..and we did! It was glorious. The weather helped, but the house and gardens are sublime. We had plenty of space and the Barn was perfect for my son and young family, so they could cater to the children's needs in a relaxed way. The house welcomed us. There were 8 adults and 2 young children, 4 years and 2 and an ageing labrador, and we fitted perfectly. I organised a chef to come and cook for my birthday lunch, and she was fabulous. I would have no problem recommending Liz Jackson from Harrogate if you wanted to do similar. We had a vegetarian 4 course lunch. The beck was such a magnet for the children with close supervision, but catching minnows with a net will go down in history. The owners had organised an easter egg hunt for us on arrival..and a box of delicious local foods, such as jam, eggs, bread and milk. With three fridges, two dishwashers, a washing machine and dryer we were were so well catered for. Thank you Lindsay and husband.

For 13 adults going away it had the perfect amount of space for everyone to be comfortable. When we arrived the house was spotless which, given the size of the house, was very impressive! The bathrooms were immaculate and numerous so there was no hopping on one leg waiting for someone to finish. I slept in the master bedroom and the bed was super comfy and was so big it made my 6ft3 partner look dainty. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and the basket they left us was superb and got demolished straight away (particularly the bread which was gorgeous). The peaceful, unspoilt and extremely pretty little village of Ravensworth lies just to the north of Richmond in a minor tributary of the River Swale. Made up of pretty, weathered sandstone cottages with their unusual 'Yorkshire' roofs - a mix of soft red pantiles and slate – the village is centred around a wide, picturesque village green.
