"Very helpful info from the landlord, going above and beyond."
The listing was good.
Provision in the cottage is excellent, with good books, games for children, videos; space for food storage (so often absent in holiday cottages); a good utility space.
However, potential guests should be told to bring a plug-in nightlight for the top of the (stone) stairs as the only toilet is downstairs. Maybe also advice to bring a gazunder if there are children (though there was unfortunate evidence that others had done that on the polish of the bedside cabinet in the twin room).
The sofas are OK for sitting (and the lounge is not large), but I was lying on the sofa with a heavy cold for three days - one of them to be a three seater would have been nice. However, if you do have to be ill in the house, the view is pleasant and soothing.
The hot water system was playing up. The plumber who came (speedily organised by the landlady, thank you) who knows the cottage, made a comment, and I did not know if he was saying that he had suggested that it was time for the boiler to be replaced, or whether he was saying it in general about holiday cottages.

"Swift Cottage was one of the best locations we had ever stayed at."
It was a delightful cottage with all the facilities and comforts required. It is located within less than a few minutes walk to one of the most beautiful villages in the dales. Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale is a beautiful location with houses built in Yorkshire stone and set on the banks of the bubbling River Nidd as it tumbles through dales and hills of emerald green. Apart from its delightful little shops and pubs it also plays host to the oldest traditional sweet shop in the country. The jewel of Yorkshire, York City, is within an hours reach as is Harrogate and the famous Fountains Abbey. The owner of the cottage was delightful to talk too as was the lovely chocolate cake and wine we arrived too. Despite the the September rain, an occupational hazard of any Autumn break, we still had a wonderful holiday in the dales and found plenty to entertain us on our holiday.

"The owner and/or Sykes should provide a warning as to the narrowness of the lane up to Swift Cottage."
The entrance to the lane is so narrow we clattered our wing mirror off one wall.
Thank you for giving the cottage full marks as to the accuracy of our listing, comfort and cleanliness. As explained when we spoke to you before your visit, the lane is narrow but visitors are rewarded by the fantastic views arising from the elevation and some guests do prefer to use the alternative parking we suggest at the bottom of the lane. We were very sorry to hear of your accident - this is the first accident we have heard of for any visitors to any of the cottages in Prospect View and we have never had a similar incident in the last 16 years. We were pleased you enjoyed the visit overall.

"We had a comfortable and relaxing stay at the cottage."
It was lovely to be welcomed with cake and wine. The views from the sitting room are of Pateley Bridge and surrounding countryside. It’s very central for walking into the town and incredibly quiet, no road noise. The cottage has everything you need, comfortable bed and sofas, good internet connectivity and clean and tidy. It’s worth noting the bathroom is downstairs but we didn’t find the stone stairs a problem.
As many have said parking and access can be an issue. The small lane to the cottage has a tight left turn and very little manoeuvrability between two walls one high one low. I wouldn’t want to take a car wider than a golf up the lane. Parking was tight but manageable.
There are some lovely walks from the cottage and the location is ideal for visiting Harrogate, Fountains Abbey, Skipton and Ripon.
Overall we had a great stay.

"Lovely cottage, very comfortable and well equipped."
The lane up to it is very narrow; we had a couple of inches spare on either side. Tight to manoeuvre in the parking area too. Beautiful area, amazing walks, and Pateley Bridge is a delightful place to stay in. Local shops have all the basics and some luxuries too. Plenty to see and do nearby. We wished we’d booked two weeks, not one.

"Swift Cottage is hidden away up a narrow lane, but in a way that is good because it is quiet."
It is only a short 200 yard walk to the pub and about the same distance via the short-cut footpath to the large Nisa supermarket and filling station and bread shop. So, a very well located cottage. Pateley's high street is only a 7 minute walk away. Well blessed with excellent tea/coffee shops and other facilities. One of the friendliest little towns we have stayed near.
The cottage is well appointed with really good kitchen equipment. It is all there if you are self-catering. Gas hobs. Owner and cleaner were outstanding. Very helpful and friendly. Bottle of wine and cake at arrival time was a very generous welcome present.
You do not have to drive, there are a large number of walks from the cottage and Pateley. But, the old railway line to Wath and back along the road is worth doing. Also How Stean gorge, Brimham Rocks and Cornerstones Cut are also well worth checking out, but the weather was against us to do anything more.

"We have stayed at Swift Cottage a few times in recent years and always thoroughly enjoyed the comfort and facilities provided, and the lovely views to the rear."
As I mentioned a few years ago in a previous review, the only problems could apply to those with large or wider than average cars. The road prior to the left turn to the lane to the cottage is often congested with parked cars which can make accessibility difficult, especially when driving out to the main road. The uphill lane itself is very narrow and great care has to be taken to avoid damaging your car.
I mention these points but would still recommend the cottage to others. We intend booking again in the future.

Home from home. Stunning views. Village shops and pub within walking distance. A perfect base for both walking and day trips exploring the Dales.
You do need to be able to manage steep stone stairs to the comfortable bedrooms upstairs. Also if you need the toilet in the night the bathroom is down those same steep stairs. There is a very narrow lane to drive up in order to reach the cottage and parking place. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday there and would return.

The property is very well furnished and equipped, and very comfortable with good views down the valley. It is in an excellent location for local walks. The only slight drawbacks are the steep stairs to the bedrooms which could be a problem for the infirm, and the narrow road to the property for those with wide vehicles. Beds and sitting areas were comfortable, which was good as we were walking the Nidderdale Way and were in need of a rest each evening!
We'd have liked a freezer, as there's an excellent butcher in Pateley Bridge and we could have frozen meat to bring home. Also parking is quite tight at the back - might be a problem if visitors have a big car. But very minor quibbles.
