  • "Ideal cottage for an autumn break."

Location near centre of town and NYMR was hugely appealing. Hope to return in the not too distant future.

  • "We found the cottage to be very comfortable and spacious for the 2 of us - and it would be good for 3 or 4 people too."

Robin Cottage is well located in the centre of Pickering but on a quiet street so we were not disturbed at night. We enjoyed visiting the town (church and castle) and the surrounding area as well as going on the train to Whitby. Although (as stated) we could not park directly outside the house apart from unloading, we did manage to find parking close by.

Thank you for your review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Robin Cottage. As you stated the surrounding area has so much to offer as does Pickering itself. We hope to welcome you again some time in the future. Jan and Roger Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage, central to Pickering, clean, comfortable, well equipped and presented."

Parking was not on site but nearby street parking wasn't a problem for us. Nice to have the basic household items supplied and the welcome biscuits and milk. Only a few issues for us and that was working out how the oven worked, as the manual wasn't available, there was no two pin plug to charge toothbrushes or a steamer pan. I'd recommend taking an eye mask for sleeping if you are sensitive to morning light; the bedrooms would benefit from black out blinds. Overall though, excellent accommodation in a great location for the North Yorkshire Moors, Cleveland Way and the East Coast. Hope to stay again when next back in Yorkshire.

Thank you for your positive feedback and we're pleased you enjoyed your visit to the cottage. There is a double two pin socket inside the vanity unit under the basin so we have now put a note in the bathroom to bring this to our guests attention. Also there was a steamer insert in a kitchen drawer so we have moved that to the pan area to make it more obvious. We have updated the instruction manual for oven instructions. It's only by feedback that we can improve our service to future guests. Hope to welcome you back on your next visit to Pickering! Roger and Jan Property Owner

  • "The property is spacious and close to amenities with comfortable beds."

After staying for 6 days we slid the bed out in the back bedroom to retrieve my phone which had been on the bed. To our horror this revealed thick black mould on the wall behind the bed and thick dust. The management company said they would speak to the owner who are now refusing to accept any responsibility. Due to the black mould which will have air born spores I would strongly advise against booking this property, in particular as no one is taking responsibility

Just for clarification we, the owners , at no time refused to accept responsibility for this regrettable incident. We were abroad when the problem arose and only became aware of it upon our return. We were mortified. Our guests had left the cottage before registering their complaint with our Property Management company and Sykes Cottages. To ensure this does not occur again for our future customers, the issue was immediately addressed and every other room in the property was examined to confirm this was an isolated incident. • "I was happy enough with the property."

However the fact that the main oven was broken and replaced with a tiny table top oven and we weren’t informed of this before we arrived was not acceptable. We had brought all our things for Christmas dinner and the weekend to cook and was made impossible by this. If we’d known we could have done something about it and prepared differently. Or more likely changed the booking to another property.

We were assured the part would arrive and be fitted before your visit. Unfortunately this didn't happen due to circumstances beyond our control and we bought the mini oven as a temporary replacement. The oven has now been repaired. We truly apologise for the inconvenience and disappointment this has caused but hope you have overall enjoyed your stay in Pickering . Jan & Roger Property Owner
