  • "Beautiful cottage in a lovely setting."

Just some slight issues with maintenance (some door handles were very loose, one fell off and left a bruise on my ankle; the upstairs toilet had a very weak flush and blocked easily - presumably this is why the plunger was next to the loo!). The only issues with cleanliness were some dustwebs by the pillows in the bedroom, and the log burner hadn't been cleaned. The facilities were brilliant - everything we could have wanted was provided. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and hope to return.

  • "We loved the cottage."

It was absolutely great and had everything we needed. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was decent quality. The kitchen and dining area are fantastic and well-equipped. There were a couple of things that could be improved- There were some light bulbs in the kitchen that needed replacing, so the area wasn’t quite as well-lit as it could be. The fire had not been cleaned from its last use and there was no ‘starter pack’ for us to make a fire, although it was advertised in the listing. We were not cold, as the central heating was great. We therefore didn’t need to go out shopping for fuel. However, if this had been provided as advertised, we would have enjoyed the novelty. These two things are minor and could be remedied very easily. They did not detract from a lovely stay in a fantastic house. We will definitely be back.

  • "Fabulous property in a lovely village."

Really comfortable for a small family and the kitchen/dining room is delightful. Garden is smaller than it looks in the pictures but will lots of greenery and footpaths nearby that's not an issue. Village pub is in walking distance (dog friendly too) and is community run, friendly and welcoming. The beers rotate often and the food is good quality pub fare. Close to Leyburn for any shopping needs, Aysgarth for walks and only 20mins into Swaledale for even more walking and cycling routes. Absolutely ideal cottage for us and we'll be back. Might be worth adding some extra notes on recycling to the welcome folder as previous visitors had put everything out together mixed up and the bin men refused to take it. We did our best to sort it in to types for next time and took our own to a recycling point as it was full. Absolutely didn't impact our holiday just might be an idea to prevent it happening again.

  • "Quaint cottage in a lovely village (nice and quiet)."

First impressions were the unkept back garden and loads of rubbish left at the front door presumably from last weeks holiday rental. If the bins are emptied only fortnightly this must be a constant problem. Finally - the WIFI. It worked fine for 3 days and then no connection Tuesday onwards…….

  • "Great base for a holiday in the Yorkshire Dales."

Well kitted out house with everything you’ll need. Really comfy beds. My daughter especially liked the sheep in the back field. We had Tesco delivered, they had no problem finding the property. The local pub was fab really welcoming, we ate there a couple of times. The recycling is collected Tuesday not Thursday as stated in the info book. Apologies to the people staying after us! Things to add to your packing list: - Bluetooth speaker. There’s no radio in the kitchen, we love tunes while cooking. We brought one and used it a lot. - BBQ: the property has one but very rusty, if you have a portable one, bring it, or a grill to use instead of the rusty one. We brought a disposable.

  • "We arrived on a cold June evening to find that the heating and hot water were not working."

There was no starter pack of wood as mentioned. we phoned twice on Sunday and on Monday morning and it was not until I had phoned Sykes that someone came out on Monday evening, denying no knowledge of messages left. We are both in our 80s and it was not a comfortable two nights. The tap in downstairs bathroom did not hold water. The mixer tap in the kitchen had been leaking for some time as the back board was very wet. The beds were very comfortable and fortunately we had taken hot water bottles. Super cottage with annoying faults.

The cottage was ideal for the six of us. Would certainly consider booking again. Two small points…….grass needs seeing to and a radio in the kitchen would be nice.

Dear Bill Many thanks for your comments and very glad you enjoyed your stay. Noted on your two points, I'll definitely look into these. Kind regards, Robert (owner) Property Owner

  • "We booked to old wool shop as a base to explore some nearby towns and it was an absolute little gem!"

Super cute, well equipped, spotless! The village is really quiet, the views from the cottage are fabulous and the pub down the road (the three horseshoes) served great food! The owner of the cottage, John, was really accommodating and was happy for us to leave a little later on the morning of departure. The Old Wool Shop is a fabulous find and we will certainly be back!

Dear Deborah Sorry for the slow response but I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay and I do hope you’ll manage to come back at some point. Best regards, Robert (owner) Property Owner

About the location

REDMIRE

Aysgarth 3 miles; Leyburn 4 miles.

The idyllic Wensleydale village of Redmire is situated in a walker’s paradise close to Castle Bolton, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls. Redmire is on the Wensleydale Railway, which features steam locomotives during the summer, and has regular special events. Castle Bolton, a mile away, is one of the finest preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire, and dates back to 1378. Much of the castle, with its mighty towers and rectangular courtyard, survived the orders to destroy famous Yorkshire castles issued by Parliament in the Civil War. Nearby Carperby was an important centre for Quakerism and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House, which overlooks the market cross and village green. Redmire's village pub serves good food, and there is an excellent range of amenities in the nearby market town of Leyburn. What's more, Swaledale and Arkengarthdale are both easily accessible from Redmire.
