  • "Superb house and facilities."

Perfect location. We had 2 dogs in our group and the garden and the walk directly to the river and along the old railway embankment was perfect for our daily walks. This was our 4th stay.

  • "Great holiday cottage, plenty room for 4 couples to enjoy our own space with bathroom and share ample communal space in lounge, dining room and kitchen."

Everything needed was provided. We really enjoyed our 4 day catch up in the cosy, comfortable house, a short walk from town. There were plenty good restaurnts and pubs close by and so many places of interest in Richmond to visit.

  • "We enjoyed our stay, the house was great for our needs (2 toddlers, 4 parents, 2 grandparents and 2 dogs)."

Location was excellent, next to the swimming pool, riverside walks and the excellent bakery etc at the old Station. Disappointed to have arrival not till 5pm and to be out by 9am, especially with 2 small children. Thanks

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday and the house was fabulous."

Loved the position by the river and as we had some decent weather it was wonderful to walk through the little gate in the back garden and down to the river bank and the dogs loved to paddle. Richmond is a great town and we also loved the circular walk to Easby Abbey through the woods and along the old railway track. All the bedrooms were a good size and as we were four single ladies it meant that three of us had our own en-suite and one of us had the bathroom for their sole use, wonderful. No waiting around for bathrooms and then there was also the toilet and sink on the ground level which was a blessing. We had an enjoyable day out to Barnards Castle. If I was coming to Richmond again I would definitely book this property again. Thank you

  • "The location was perfect the new kitchen and bathrooms all as stated."

The only issues we had was with the heating system as the bedroom radiators did not get warm. Eventually I realised on day 4 that the radiator in the hall was overpowering the thermostat and the hall was warm & toasty but the bedrooms cold and uninviting. Once i turned the radiator off in the hall, the house warmed up nicely. Frankley the thermostat is in the wrong place for a house that large.

  • "The property is dated and needs some modernisation."

I believe this is scheduled for February. We first stayed in the property in 2019 and very few if any improvements have been made. The showers do not flow well, the outside lights do not all work, essential for night time dog garden visits. It is a property in a lovely situation but does need updating.

Thank you for your feedback. Our programme of updating which we started in 2019 was greatly affected by the periods of closure forced on us during Covid and the availability of good tradespeople thereafter. We have just reopened after a six-week closure when we had the kitchen completely modernised and the boiler/shower situation resolved with a new storage tank and two new showers. Property Owner

Although we had a good stay we felt the house needed better maintenance lots of little issues with curtain tracks when opening and closing curtains and the electric shower in one of the bed rooms had very little power and could not maintain a constant temperature either far to hot or freezing cold however the house was perfectly situated for a visit to Richmond plenty do do

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit to Richmond. Thank you very much for drawing our attention to the problem with one of the electric showers. Our caretaker now has that under investigation. You are right about the older, plastic curtain tracks for which we can no longer get the fittings. We have already replaced some with easier to use metal poles and will be changing the rest in February when we are fitting a new kitchen and taking the opportunity to do some updating in other areas. kind regards, Margaret Harding Property Owner

  • "The kitchen was very dark."

The caretaker came and replaced a bulb and advised that the kitchen is to be re-fitted in February, so fair enough. The big problem was the 2 (apparently new) electric showers were positively dangerous. The water temperature fluctuated wildly from really cold to scalding hot. The caretaker said he would call the plumber but no-one appeared. This meant that we all had to use the other showers - not a massive problem, but certainly an inconvenience.

  • "We went to Bridgedown House last year."

There were still a few maintenance issues, with the kitchen lights, the utility room light and the electric showers. Overall Bridgedown House is in a great location and has plenty of room. A special bonus is that it is dog friendly. A great welcome pack (including dog treats) and a great garden. Richmond is a great Market Town with very friendly people.

Plenty of room for everyone and it had everything we needed. A very dog friendly house with a bed, bowls, towel and treats for him! There were very nice welcome treats for the humans too. The house is next to the riverside walk and the station opposite has a lovely bakery and cafe, brewery, craft shop, cinema and swimming pool. John, the property manager, was very helpful too. We all really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful scenery and great walks especially with the dogs, a lovely river running at the back of the house with woods and a great circular walk. The property had a few small issues. The lights were very dim and didn't always work, the electric showers weren't very good and a toilet seat needs replacing downstairs. Overall it was brilliant and we would return. Richmond is a lovely Market Square with everything on your doorstep and the locals were really friendly and made us "Londoners" very welcome.

Our only complaint would be the 9am check out. We do understand that since the pandemic extra cleaning is required but if at some stage 10am check out could be reinstated I’m sure it would be greatly appreciated by clients. The 6 of us would recommend Bridgedown House.

  • "A spacious, comfortable house in an excellent location."

We enjoyed watching all the wildlife in the garden, views of the river and reading the books about Richmond and swaledale. The Station facilities and swimming pool were right next door and it only took a few minutes to walk into Richmond market square. We ran out of black bags and dishwasher tablets but a quick text to the caretaker and these were speedily provided. Thanks for a most enjoyable visit. We would like to return with the family.

  • "This is a large comfortable house which could accommodate an extended family or two families sharing."

The facilities are comprehensive and kept in good nick by the most excellent caretaker, a good communicator. The location, by the River Swale and close to https://www.thestation.co.uk is ideal. Easy enough to walk up into Richmond's magnificent Market Place, home of The Noted Pie Shop and other delights. Equally good for local walks. The loop round to Easby Abbey and back by the Drummer Boy Stone is an hour well spent. It can be extended into a figure-of-eight by heading west, up-river from the house via The Batts (under the castle), to cross the Swale by one of the bridges further upstream. There's heaps to do in any direction, Richmond really is a perfect base.

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
