  • "Really like the property and location ive stayed a couple of times before and will certainly be back."

Unfortunately the hot tub was faulty all week despite the owners best efforts to arrange repair. This was obviously quite disappointing

  • "Loved the cottage."

Quirky and comfy. Facilities excellent. Everything you would need. Had a lovely week weather wise. In September it is a little cold on a night without the burner on - but the burner made it perfect. Parking in Frenchgate not a problem. Jenny, thank you for letting us stay in your lovely home. No visitors book to thank you. Would definitely return. Nesta the Bedlington Terrier loved the cottage and Richmond. Especially the squirrels and the pubs

Over bath shower not ideal but perfectly adequate. Hot tub was excellent for 4 adults (10pm curfew) and enclosed garden great for our 2 dogs. No problem parking and just a short walk to the town square or to Lidl or a riverside walk to Easby Abbey. All in all a great stay thanks

It’s so quirky and homely. Lovely and convenient for the river and the shops. Good amount of kitchen equipment, games, DVDs and books. A lovely touch to find milk and cake in the fridge plus a stocked coffee machine. The hottub in the peaceful sunny back garden creates a beautiful relaxing atmosphere. We hope to be back again.

But apart from that, great location to town . We would revisit. We did have a visit from the maintance man reguarding some issues, but the complaint hadn't come from us, these should have been dealt with before we arrived.

Lovely quaint cottage but could of done with a few more explanations on the workings of equipment as had problems with dish washer and television apart from that lovely location

  • "Excellent cottage with modern facilities."

I loved the hot tub, back garden and the small sun room. Thank you for the cake and milk, they were very welcome. On street parking but very easy to park as there are no restrictions in the 2 areas recommended. Very short walk into Richmond where there are loads of pubs and restaurants. The Ship Inn is only a few minutes walk away. There were no tea towels. I know there was a dishwasher but sometimes it is easier to just wash a small amount of dishes. No instructions about the heating which kept coming on and not really needed in the summer. Could save the hosts some money on their bills if it could be turned off. On/off button on TV remote not working. The steep stairs and climb in and out of the over bath shower make this property difficult for people with mobility problems but apart from that it was perfect. Will be back.

  • "The cottage is really welcoming and was perfect for me and my family."

The stairs were a bit steep for my mum but was fine once she got used to them. The downstairs toilet helps. The hot tub my children loved, and was one of the reasons we booked the cottage initially. The location was ideal for my parents who struggle to walk very long distances. It was a lovely walk into the town and local highlights like the church, river and castle. Great that dogs are welcome and the enclosed garden is ideal for them. We would definitely book again.

  • "The cottage is very nice, comfortable and spacious."

There was an issue on Monday when no heating came on via the radiators. This was referred to sykes at 11am or sooner, it was very cold in the sitting room my wife was not very well and we just wanted to stay in that day after the family had left on Sunday. I had to ring sykes back around 4.15pm after no advice, despite being given the unique reference they didn't have any details. Another person rang me around 5pm to state the problem was they could not contact the owner, that the maintenance man wasn't coming and the owner would reset the timer remotely, the man did attend, my wife felt a bit uncomfortable when I had advised he was not coming. I advised the lady who rang me from sykes that I was dissatisfied with there handling of this and a courtesy call mid afternoon should have been received. Poor customer service!!!

I am sorry you felt your query was not dealt with quickly enough. To my knowledge my Maintenance Personnel visited the property within 2 hours of us being informed of your query. As soon as I knew you required the heating up, I put the thermostat to 22c. There is also a boost function for you to press. I have remote access and the cottage never went below 18c even through the night. The Aga was always on and the living room has a log burner with which a starter pack is provided. Temperature of the cottage is a personal preference and it is difficult to know where to gauge this for different customers. Thank you for your comments, I hope the rest of your holiday was enjoyable. Property Owner

We love Richmond so much. My Grandparents used to live there for years. They recently moved to a lovely care home in Eaglescliffe. This cottage felt like a home from home with the fabulous bonus of a hot tub! Beautiful Garden, functional kitchen, plenty of space. We’d love to stay there again.

appreciated extras ie milk, tea, sugar etc etc. Hot tub was an added bonus after a long hike. Did the hardest jigsaw ever as a family & loved it. Smacked our heads a few times on low ceilings-bigger ‘mind your head’ signs? Lots of cobwebs & daddylonglegs in the rooms.

  • "We are so sad to be leaving this cottage today."

It was a last minute booking and I was a little worried about the lack parking and clothes dryer but we've had the most amazing week. We parked the car at the end of the ginnel when we arrived on Friday and haven't moved it since. Richmond is a beautiful place to stay with fab markets, a mix of traditional and more modern shops, lots of pubs/restaurants/cafes, the castle and cinema all of which are within a 10/15 minutes walk away from the cottage. Richmond is extremely dog friendly which has been lovely for us as a family. Particular mention goes to the Sip cafe which is on the way into town and does gorgeous food and drinks and makes dogs very welcome. The cottage has everything you need; a large well equipped kitchen, good sized bedrooms with stunning views, very comfortable beds, a bathroom with a hand held shower and waterfall shower over the bath (not mentioned in the cottage details). The living room is cosy with a large TV and lots of books and games. The garden is small but has been big enough for our dog to potter around comfortably, and we've made good use of the hot tub especially after all the hills we've walked!! (The heating is very quick once you switch it on so I needn't have worried about the lack of dryer). We've spent a lot of time in the snug reading our books and chilling. We could have done with more test strips for the hot tub but this was rectified quickly when we rang Sykes. We would definitely recommend this cottage to others as we've had such a wonderful stay.

We did always find a place but some guidance would be good.

Thank you for your feedback. I will indeed update the arrival instructions, so parking is made clearer. There are no restrictions on either road, in which you can park near the cottage, so I will make this clearer from now on. Property Owner

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Flints Cottage and can't wait to visit again."

The cottage is pretty much central to every amenity you would need without being noisy or busy. We managed to get free parking for the duration of our stay in Frenchgate which is a quick cut through a ginnel away from the front door, perfect! The cottage itself is quaint and well laid out whilst having every modern gadget you would need. My husband is well over six foot so had to be careful with head heights but this cottage is sixteen century so you expect such things. The hot tub was an added bonus and we enjoyed a couple of dips in it whilst enjoying a glass of wine in relative privacy and seclusion. The mattress on the main bed is lovely and comfortable, can't speak for the rest as there were only two of us. We did notice there wasn't a hoover available for use and maybe an old dog towel could come in handy on inclement days to save your carpets but luckily the weather was great and our little dog Ava really enjoyed the complimentary dog treats! All in all we have been visiting Richmond now for over twenty years and this has to be one of the best places we've stayed. See you again soon!

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
