The cottage is beaut8 equipped and well located to explore the local area( Approximately an hour to Whitby, Richmond and York). The hot tub was an essential part of the booking for us as we knew it would be a welcome end to a days exploring. It is a working farm, so expect a little smell at times but go and say hello to the llamas, horses and goats! Great location, lovely cottage.

Disappointed no recycling. Lovely property in excellent surroundings. Would be happy to recommend to anyone.

All of our waste is sent to Yorewaste at Thirsk where it is sorted for recycling . During Covid we were re- assessed by the council on collection of separated waste , our nine recycling bins were replaced by a skip which we pay for extra and is sorted off site . Lovely and clean. The hot tub felt great after a day walking about. My 9 year old could have spent all day looking at the farm animals, and petting Maxwell. Highlight of her trip! The Barn is close to Northallerton for all your needs and its within easy reach of Whitby and the North Yorkshire Railway should you fancy a trip on a Steam train and Goathland was worth a visit if only just to see the station and where Heartbeat filmed as Aidensfield. Depending on time of year RSPB Bempton Cliffs is worth a visit to see breeding Puffins and beautiful Gannets. The welcome hamper went down a treat and we would have no hesitation in recommending The Barn to friends and family as a great place to stay. Thank you x

  • "The property and facilities were generally very good."

The property could do with a small amount of general maintenance to correct things like a bedroom door that doesn’t stay shut and a loose toilet seat. Hot tub very nice. The biggest downside for us was the fact that on Monday morning at 6am work started to take the chickens away for slaughter. Lots of noise and then an appalling smell as the sheds are cleared out. No mention in the listing of how close the barn and other properties are to the chicken sheds! Less than 100m. That spoilt the stay as we couldn’t stay outside because of the smell.

I apologise for your misunderstanding of the concept of a “working farm”, which is clearly stated in the description . This is part of what makes the accommodation unique with many of our returning guests . I understand the countryside is not for everyone, I did note your concerns on the 1st June before you had even arrived, I hope your next holiday is satisfactory and you can relax , the toilet seat is to your liking and is well away from farm activities and here Property Owner

It was clean, tidy, comfortable and had great facilities. It is around an hour's drive from a lot of great stuff in North Yorkshire. The hot tub wasn't the reason we chose this cottage but it was a great addition. We spent most evenings in it, with a cold drink. The kids absolutely loved it. We only had two issues with the Barn. One was an issue with the hot water, and as soon as Cliff was made aware of it he arranged for it to be sorted and offered us discounted tickets to the Forbidden Corner by way of an apology. The second was that there wasn't really anywhere to dry clothes. A whirlygig would really make all the difference. These are, though, minor issues and wouldn't stop us going back to the Barn. We absolutely would go back there again, and highly recommend it. We went to Flamingo Land, Eden Camp and Scarborough (twice). Darlington is half an hour up the road and offered cinemas, shopping and places to go and eat. We went to Whitby but were not all that impressed with it. We mixed a lot in to our week away. I honestly feel that after a week, there was still a lot we didn't have time to see.

Of the ‘things to do’ Kiplin Hall is well worth a visit, however The Forbidden Corner whilst excellent for kids is disappointing for us concession ticket qualifiers who would have benefited from ‘concession maps’ NOT available! On clear days the sunrises and sunsets were spectacular ( especially the sunrises which could be seen straight out the bedroom window) . Northallerton was just over a mile down the road and had a lot of diverse shops to wander through, also a market on Saturdays and Wednesdays , you could park in Tesco free for 2 hours or there’s a private car park for all day parking for between £1:50 and £2 ( Saturday). However there was a problem with the hottub at the barn property fallowing a power cut overnight on first night(which therefore outwith owners control) however as the lodge close by was not being utelised were told we could use the hottub on that property instead, which we did so a a few occassions. Therefore shows owner being very helpful to clients

The owner was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble for him. The property is located quite central to a lot of the major cities. We would definitely look to rebook The Barn again in the future.

  • "Stop looking around and book this place NOW!"

It’s amazing! I’m a really really demanding customer who spends forever to find the perfect place to stay! This place was perfect! The pictures do not do it justice at all. They are all accurate, but I don’t think they quiet capture just how nice this place is. It was much larger then we expected! The facilities are unreal! There is everything you could wish for in the kitchen! The cupboards are stocked full of games and DVD’s. The furnishings are very high spec and the bedding is stunning! All top quality! This was a very last minute booking and the place was immaculate and spotless! We even had a very generous welcome hamper, consisting of a bottle of Cava, a jar of coffee, some delicious biscuits and a large back of Tyrell’s potatoes chips! The hot tub was immaculate wand nicely bubbling away when we arrived! It’s great to use on a cold winters night. The views are stunning and their is so much todo within a short driving distance. Takeaways will easily deliver, or there is a Tesco Supermarket only 5 mins drive away! There are also some beautiful restaurants and pubs in Northallerton 5 mins away on the high street which is really cute and quaint. We would tell everyone to book this place, but I do hope it’s availabile for us to return as often as we would like! You are going to be delighted if you stay here!

  • "Lovely cottage."

Well equipped with lots of games and DVDs and everything you need. Lots of little touches like apple chargers etc that were available if needed. An unexpected welcome pack was provided - biscuits, cakes, chocolate, wine etc which was a nice surprise. The "disco hot tub" was great - equipped with music and lights. Friendly owner who ensured we had everything we needed and gave us advice on places to visit. Even gave us some free tickets for Flamingo Land that he had so we had a free day out. Love the animals on the farm - Llamas, Rheas and the dogs. Maxwell the dog came bounding towards us every time we returned back to the cottage wanting a cuddle. Would definitely recommend this cottage especially if you have children,

About the location

NORTHALLERTON

Thirsk 9 miles.

Northallerton is a County town and administrative centre of North Yorkshire, located at the foot of a ridge dividing two river basin areas, the Wiske and the Cod Beck, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the Vale of York, between the Hambleton Hills and the Yorkshire Dales. This thriving town boasts market days on Wednesdays and Saturdays, when both sides of the High Street are home to stalls selling a wide range of goods and produce, plus on the fourth Wednesday of the month the market is joined by a farmers' market. Despite its modest size, Northallerton has a number of independent and national shops, including Betty’s Tea Rooms, Lewis & Cooper, an outstanding delicatessan and wine merchant, award-winning butcher’s, artisan baker, greengrocers, two department stores, several supermarkets and bookshops. With good rail links to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Durham and York, the activities are not just restricted to the countryside. Situated equidistant between the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, the opportunities for exploration are endless. These include a day at the races at one of the many local courses, including Thirsk, a family trip to the unique Forbidden Corner at Middleham, a trip to a country house such as Newby Hall, Kiplin Hall and Castle Howard, or a round of golf. The restored Victorian resort of Saltburn, plus the pretty beaches and coves of Runswick Bay, Sand's End and Robin Hood's Bay, along with the town of Whitby, are all within one hour's drive away.
