  • "When we arrived we were amazed at our accommodation for the week."

We didn’t want for anything. The reclining chairs were a hit to sit out and relax in! The space and storage were an asset. We were frustrated the tv didn’t always work… and more time given to the cleanliness would be recommended! Would we stay here again… absolutely Thankyou

So glad that you liked the lodge but sorry that you had problems with the TV. You can always call us and we will help as best we can. We are also disappointed that our usual high standards were not met - we have recently changed our housekeeping arrangements and hope that everything will be fully satisfactory in future. We would love to welcome you back. Property Owner

  • "We have stop on this lodge site for a few years but not in this lodge."

The accommodation it's self was home from home, nice and comfortable and very quiet. We are considering returning next year. We love this area and where the lodge is situated. Runswick bay and the surrounding area are very nice. A big thank to the owners Mark and Jennifer for a lovely relaxing holiday Lynne and Tony Stevens and a woof from Sally our Westy.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and are thinking of returning. Thank you for your feedback, which is always so useful. We are disappointed we didn't completely meet our own high standards this time and will endeavour to score "top marks" on everything again in future. Property Owner

  • "We stayed at Ammonite Lodge for a week at the beginning of April 2024."

It is our second stay. It is a beautiful lodge, very well equipped and comfortably furnished. A brilliant location for walks on the beach at Runswick Bay and also for access to the Cleveland Way. The appearance & maintenance of the site is of a very high standard & is accessed by a secured gate opened with a key code. Would highly recommend & we have already booked for next year. And very importantly our dog loves it as well! Karen, Tony & Millie the dog. Suffolk

Very clean and well presented. Maybe becoming a little too small for six as our family grows older.

  • "Just returned from a wonderful holiday in Ammonite Lodge."

The lodge is worthy of a 5 star review. The lodge is spotlessly clean and very well equipped, beds are comfy with good linen and supersoft towels. A fabulous welcome pack was there on arrival for us. I have never seen my husband as relaxed as he has been this week. We will be back next year as this is a Hidden Gem which we have found. We arrived in the car but did not get in it again till coming home. The bus service is really good to get around. Runswick Bay itself is an ideal spot to sit down, relax and take in the views.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Ammonite Lodge and Runswick Bay so much, and had such a relaxing holiday. We hope, you will, indeed, be able to return to us next year. Property Owner

  • "Excellent cabin, first class."

Couple of niggles 1. Wardrobes had owners cloths in? We feel it should be completely vacant and all space for tenants. 2. Couldn’t work the heating out? Regardless of wall stat setting radiators never came on same with bathroom towel rails. Other than that we would definitely stay again.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your comments, we value your feedback. We are sorry you were inconvenienced by the clothing, which has now been removed. Regarding the heating, which works with a hive system, full information is provided in the welcome book. We would have been pleased to talk you through it if you had called us. We hope to welcome you back soon. P.s. Great to see that you have rebooked - We look forward to welcoming you back in a few weeks time. Property Owner

  • "Ammonite Lodge is a wonderful place."

Clean, well equipped and a great location. We booked before the new owners had taken over and the only very minor disappointments were that the canoe shared with the neighbouring lodge Rockpool Retreat was not available (and still being advertised) and the sofa bed has definitely seen better days if you’re intending on using it. A parasol for the outdoor area would be welcomed and some of the cushions for the seating outside is showing signs of mold. We’ve stayed in places with better showers but theirs do the job. However, the beds were comfortable and the lodge is well equipped with everything you would need including a complimentary hamper of bread, tea, biscuits, jam etc. Useful to be able to use the washing machine mid stay. Runswick Bay is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the location which is close to Whitby. The Pines park was quiet, well maintained and secure. Hopefully the new owners will sort some of the minor issues so future visitors have a 5 star stay.

We are pleased you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for pointing out some minor issues that we will be attending to. Property Owner

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
