"The cottage itself was lovely in a fabulous location."
The beds were lovely and comfortable. The neighbours were absolutely fantastic. Cottage was extremely toastie, definitely not a cold house. The heating is idiot proof, the control was simple to use. However, the cottage is being let down by the cleaning company. It was not the best. There was food left in the oven which had not been cleaned. Same as the fridge. The biggest issue with us taking our family dogs on holiday with us was the slugs, which every night were all over the living room. We removed 8, but every morning when we got up there were slug trails all over the rug. This is a concern as slugs can carry Lungworm in their 'slime', which can be fatal to dogs. They appear to be coming out from under the skirting boards. By all means you can contact us about it.

"Comfortable well furnished and cosy cottage."
Pub just down the road and no noisy traffic despite being on the road side.
TV has Netflix and prime if you have an account. TV did seem a bit slow to respond but that may be down to the remote (I did find spare batteries in the kitchen on my last day as I was leaving).
Loved the bath/shower. Could do with a little shelf to sit your shampoo and stuff on though. Water pressure was awesome.
Main bedroom has a walk in dressing room. Second bedroom has minimum storage between the best view through the bay window.
Robin hoods bay/Whitby/Runswick bay Sandsend and Staithes all a short drive away.
Thank you for your 5 star review. It's very much appreciated. Hope you'll be back at the lodge at some point in the future, we love it when our guests enjoy the cottage as much as we do.

"I'm afraid the cottage was damp and the heating was poor, we did use the fire."
The kettle was rusty so we bought a new one. I feel as though we were let down
We're sorry you couldn't understand the thermostat in the cottage. We have put the simplest thermostat we could find into the cottage and the instructions for the heating are all in the guest information book . You just have to turn the outer circle of it to turn it up or down. You could have messaged us on the app and we would have gladly helped you with it. The stove is there to be used by our guests but not by taking our neighbours fuel, they contacted us to tell us that you had been taking coal from their bunker.

Unfortunately it wasn’t very clean when we arrived and there were a couple of maintenance issues. The owner has been made aware of these and hopefully they will be resolved as we would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Whitby.

"This was our 2nd time staying in the Lodge but unfortunately we were disappointed this time ."
We had to clean the fridge there was a strong smell of sour milk in the kitchen we had to mop the floor and clean crumbs off the worktops. There was 3 boxes of lollipops left in the freezer. Some of the pans were not clean the cheese grater still had cheese on it . Infront of the log burner was all ash the stairs had not been hoovered. There was cobwebs all over and every morning when we entered the living room there was slug trails on the rug we did catch 3 while we were there. The neighbour asked us if we had been using his coal because it was going missing!! We never used the log burner due to the nice weather we had . The Lodge is in an ideal location for walking but sadly we won’t now return .
we're very sorry that the cottage wasn't cleaned to your expectations. if you had let us know about this when you arrived we could have informed the cleaning company who would have returned to rectify your issues.

"This was our second time staying at the lodge."
It’s a lovely cosy cottage in a perfect location close to the cinder track.
On our arrival the cottage was icy cold and the heating wasn’t working! there is a lovely log stove in the cottage however on this visit there wasn’t any fuel to light it, the first time we stayed there was enough coal and logs left as a starter for your first night. So we had to go out and find a place that sold coal, this and the heating not working wasn’t a great start to a holiday in December.
After calling Sykes who were very kind and helpful I later got a call from the lovely owner who talked me through how to top up the water to get the boiler working. Once we’d done this it was a much nicer evening for us.
We felt that the lodge had been stood empty as it was so very cold and putting the heat on caused a lot of condensation. It was running down the walls, windows and even the kitchen floor was wet when the heating is on or you used the oven. There was a smell of damp the whole time we were there and some of the internal walls are crumbling due to this problem.
We had a lovely stay and enjoyed our holiday and would stay again but only in the warmer months.
Sorry you had a problem with the heating on your arrival. I had put the heating on remotely the day before your arrival. Unbeknown to me the pressure had dropped on the bolier. I'm glad we managed to sort out the problem shortly after your arrival.

"I felt the cottage was not dog friendly because the neighbours started complaining within an hour of us being there because the dogs where playing after a long 5hr car journey with breaks."
I feel that they would have been the same if I had small children with me. I then felt on egg shells the whole time and wouldn't use the garden, was worried the while time that my autistic child would have a meltdown and wanted to keep the dogs separated in case they wanted to play. He continued to complain the whole time.
I also wanted to wash the towels and the washing machine was so dirty that I had to clean it 1st but even after that the towels smelled so bad that they couldn't be used again. On the night we arrived we put the kitchen tap on and the pressure forced the tap off and we had to quickly turn off the water and we repaired this ourself, luckily that was just an easy repair of screwing it back on.
The one plus was the beds, they were so comfortable and the best that I have ever had in holiday accommodation before.
The majority of our bookings are from people with dogs. Not once in all the time we've had the cottage have we ever had a complaint from the neighbours about a guest. They are lovely people who wouldn't have complained without good cause. We were informed your dogs were constantly barking 24 hours a day the whole time you were there. I'm sure this would have driven a Saint mad!

"We had a lovely stay at the lodge."
Its a great location from whitby and surrounding areas. We walked the cinder track or drove about easily. There is also a bus not too far from the house travelling from Middlesbrough to Scarborough. We ate at the windmill one night and would definitely recommend. We wish we'd gone sooner. The house is great, set back from the road. I've never seen our anxious dog so relaxed. The house was well equipped, we used the washing machine and had a maiden to dry clothes. I would say the kitchen wasn't as clean as expected. Notes say to empty cupboards and it looks like this was trusted to be done however still old food items and stains in cupboard. We rewashed the cutlery as had food stains (possibly from the dishwasher, we dont have one at home so just used the sink) and the cooker and microwave had dried food stuck to them. As a dog friendly property i appreciate it may be harder to keep on top of the hairs etc. Our dog doesn't malt and the rug in the living room had alot of dog hair left behind. We were out throughout the day staying busy and everybody's standard of cleanliness is different. I would still recommend the lodge to stay due to the great location.

Had most of the things you would need for a week away with small children. Only negatives for us personally were the mattresses being super firm and when we arrived it hadn't been cleaned properly with clumps of white dog hair in the living room all over the rug and floor. Not ideal when you have young children picking it up. Other than that it ticked the boxes for everything you would need.

The towels particularly for one of us were inadequate. No bath towel. I am sure these things can be addressed but I felt they needed mentioning. Re the central heating there were no instructions which would have been helpful.
