  • "Very disappointed about the extensive black mould inside the shower tray/shower wall edge on the sealant and glass door frame and mould on the tile grouting in the shower and also black mould on the rain shower head and the thick amount of fluff on both the extractor fans in the bathroom and kitchen is not acceptable - poor housekeeping /cleanliness which has obviously built up over time due to poor cleaning between rentals."

The bathroom extractor fan did not work - probably due to the thick amount of dust on it. I had to clean the rain shower head before being able to use the shower - not something I should have to do on a holiday and at the cost of the weeks rental. The small frying pan was very badly scratched and needs replacing - they are not expensive.

Thank you for your feedback. We were sorry to hear that you were disappointed with our lovely sea front apartment. We have noted your comments and will address the appropriate issues. Property Owner

  • "We’ve stayed in this property a few times, it’s very well maintained, comfortable and has a fantastic outlook."

It’s a great base for getting about, bus stop a 100 meters, beach literally outside the door. We will return again later in the year, missing it already!

  • "Lovely apartment with great view out of the front french window and juliette balcony onto the whole beach."

Being high up means the road is not very visible, and the beach and sea panorama is spectacular at all times and tides. Apartment is compact but space is well used. We appreciated the good quality equipment, and little touches like some salt and pepper, handsoap and washing up liquid/dishwasher tablets (just needed a dishwashing sponge). Just a few points which may be helpful to others: Parking - a few spaces available and free on the street but a bit hit and miss as to whether you get a space; otherwise car park is £6 per day, less than 5 minutes walk away, but a bit far if trying to load/unload. Entrance door is quite stiff to lock (and handle needs lifting to lock - exit only by key), and is shared with Flat 2, so may be left unlocked at times. Entrance lobby seems a little damp but the flat itself is well maintained. Entrance door is effectively one floor up garden steps, then one floor to Flat 3 door, then one more floor up to the flat itself. We booked through Sykes Cottages and found them to be very helpful.

  • "Really lovely flat - the pictures do not do it justice."

Fantastic view and very well equipped. Great service from Sykes and I hope to return. The only thing I would have liked is a better lock on the internal door and a Yale type lock on the front door so that it locks automatically. I came down one morning to find the front door left unlocked. Apart from that - a real gem!

  • "The apartment is beautifully decorated on the third floor with good facilities as in kitchen facilities , WiFi and television ."

The views are spectacular from the Juliet balcony . Sandsend has a beautiful beach . Unfortunately the accommodation is set back and accessible by steps and we did not manage to get parked throughout our stay making unloading luggage /shopping difficult . There is a public car park lower down about a 5 minute walk away that is chargeable . Cleanliness did not meet our expectations , floors had not been cleaned and were visibly dirty . The shower screens had also not been cleaned well and the toilet seat was broken , but my husband managed to repair it . Food products left in the freezer from the previous guests, bread bin and kitchen bin visibly unclean . Storage in the second bedroom a challenge too - storage available under the bed but this was visibly unclean and hook available along with hangers on the back of the bedroom door . The hallway to the apartment is shared with the apartment below. For the duration of our stay the front door was left open by the apartment below, we felt this was a security concern . The hallway was often cluttered by belongings from those in the apartment below , and it was damp (possibly from the door being open continuously ) and unclean . The apartments are on a busy road and traffic can be continuous at certain times of the day . Sandsend is a lovely little place and there are a few eateries within walking distant and Whitby isn’t far . We enjoyed our stay once I had cleaned and vacuumed through the apartment . We do feel that in comparison to our second accommodation we stayed at in Whitby this was overpriced and we would probably not stay again nor recommend .

  • "Lovely apartment in a beautiful location."

Due to Corona we couldn’t get into the local restaurants and couldn’t even get a cuppa in Whitby as it was raining throughout our stay, and everyone else had the same idea (only limited numbers allowed in). Thankfully we had a fabulous base and we had a great time anyway - would definitely return when we have some better weather. Host was great, happy with communication and level of service providers for this property. Would definitely recommend.

Set across one level and sleeping up to four guests, Flat 3, Peacehaven is an idyllic base for a small family or two couples looking to explore the delights of this sought-after region.

Stepping inside, be charmed by the contemporary décor of the open-plan living space, flooded with natural light and framing unspoilt views of the North Sea through the elegant Juliet balcony.

Dust off your sandy toes and settle down for a moment of peace in front of the television following a day full of adventure before venturing over to the well-equipped kitchen to rustle up some tasty treats for your loved ones.

Uncork a bottle of wine and serve the fruits of your labor at the dining table, where you can throw open the French doors and let the fresh sea air throw through the sociable space as you indulge.

When sleep calls, retreat to either of the two well-presented double bedrooms to rest your head, each fit with your very own TV, so you can drift off to the sound of your favourite show from the comfort of the covers.

In the morning, kick-start your day with an invigorating rinse under the waterfall head in the contemporary shower room, stylishly tiled throughout, before enjoying a steaming cup of coffee backed by the sounds of the waves washing up on the nearby shore.

Take a break from doing the cooking and treat your loved ones to a spot of pub grub at The Hart Inn, or make meal times an alfresco affair and indulge in the catch of the day in the beautiful garden at the Fish Cottage.

Take advantage of your close proximity to the coast and spend a day at Sandsend Beach, where you can paddle the shores, make use of the glorious golden sand to build sandcastles, or make a splash in the waters of the North Sea.

A scenic stroll along the coastline will bring you to the popular seaside town of Whitby, famed as the inspiration between Bram Stockers Dracula, here you can climb the 199 Steps to reach the medieval ruins of Whitby Abbey, offering sweeping views of the harbour from the top, or immerse yourself in local history with a tour of Whitby Museum.

Lace up your walking boots and follow The Cinder Track through the picturesque countryside of North Yorkshire toward the picture-perfect fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay, or jump in the car and journey to Staithes, Saltburn or Runswick Bay, all well worth a visit.

Whether you're looking to unwind or experience adventure, choose Flat 3, Peacehaven as a base that you'll be delighted to return to.

About the location

SANDSEND

Whitby 2.5 miles.

Lying on Yorkshire's spectacular Heritage Coastline, Sandsend is the ideal place for a family holiday with its award winning, wide sweeping beaches, rock pools and dramatic cliffs. Indeed this part of the coastline is known locally as the Dinosaur Coast because of the many fossils found here. In the season, beachside stalls offer everything from light snacks and drinks to boats, buckets and spades! Children will enjoy damming the little beck where it crosses the beach to form a freshwater lagoon - great (and safe) for paddling and boating! For the more energetic the village sits on the lovely long distance Cleveland Way Trail, which offers great off-road cycling along the disused coastal railway as well as breathtaking clifftop walks. The National Trust now own the nearby headland, Sandsend Ness, where there is a delightful nature trail in the old quarry pits. A special place offering something for everyone!
