  • "We have just returned from a weekend with the family celebrating an early Christmas."

    The house was amazing and provided a great space for us to celebrate as a family. The house is spacious, very well maintained and just lovely with everything you need including Christmas decorations. It is well situated and immaculate with a great mix of modern and traditional features. It was lovely to just sit around with the log burning fires which made the place a home from home. We have already booked for December 25 and can’t wait to return. A real find and would recommend to anyone. Thank you Sue.

  • "We had such a wonderful stay at 39 West Street, the house is full of beautiful original features whilst also having the balance of new & old."

    It was a lovely surprise for us to arrive and the house be decorated for Christmas, this really topped off our stay to make it feel magical. Sue made us feel really welcome, providing a stocked pantry, coffee machine, milk, cleaning products and even a treat of a bottle of fizz! The house was plenty big enough for our group of 8 adults, 2 young children and a dog, we will definitely be back!

  • "This is our 5 th time we have stayed at West Street and as soon as we put the key in the door and open it, it’s like we are coming home."

    The house wraps you in a huge hug and you instantly feel relaxed and all your worries disappear for the duration of your stay. This is the most gorgeous house we have ever stayed in, in Scarborough and will always return. The kitchen is super modern with all modern cons and then some. The kitchen also has a lovely log burner installed for those cozy nights in the kitchen playing games. The lounge also has a log burner and really comfy sofas. The bedrooms are simply stunning and I’ve never slept in such a huge comfy bed. I never want to get up. We also have the luxury of bringing our dog and there are always plenty of dog treats and bowls left for our furry friend. I can’t wait to book again and come back home to west street

  • "Fabulous house beautifully presented and immaculately clean."

    Lovely thoughtful touches like the espresso coffee machine plus pods and well stocked pantry cupboard with condiments etc Perfect location for Scarborough centre, the beach and The Spa. On street parking a bonus. Had the best stay with friends. Thank you to Sue a responsive and thoughtful host A**** Would love to return in summer to make use of the outside area. Only suggestion more serving dishes would be helpful - we like to cook when away.

  • "Glorious stay at 39 West Street."

    Amazing house with plenty of room for the 9 of us for a family celebration. Sue was brilliant at responding to any queries we had! Beautifully decorated. Comfy beds. Kitchen well equipped, took our own airfryer which helped cater for 9 people as we enjoy cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Coffee machine was enjoyed by all! Oil filled radiators kept all toasty on floors 1 and 2 and plumber visited on same day when we had a plumbing issue. Great jaunts out to Stephen Joseph Theatre, Escape Room Scarborough, Whitby, York, Robin Hood Bay, Rowntree Lodge on West St for an amazing brunch and fab fish and chip supper from Ramshill Fisheries. In a lovely quiet area of Scarborough with town centre just a 15/20 min walk away and we made use of Cliff Lifts when needed. Thank you Sue we so enjoyed our stay!

  • "Perfect property for our large family of 8 adults who had their own bedrooms/bathrooms."

    We booked this home for my Grandma’s 90th birthday celebrations. The home is in a great location and the area was very quiet. The home has everything you could possibly need and more. The beds were very big & comfortable. We loved the coffee machine in the house so much that we’ve just purchased the same one today. Sue was fantastic with communication and responded very quickly. Everyone in our party loved their stay and We can’t wait to book this home again.

    Location is perfect if you want to be at the quieter end of Scarborough but within easy reach of all attractions.. A lot of care and attention has been taking to ensure a very comfortable, spotlessly clean home that has everything you need…hope to be back next year

  • "The house is beautiful, every thought has gone into guests stay."

    Very comfy beds, lots of space and every kitchen item we needed. In a good spot 10 mins walk from south bay. Sue was also very helpful in our welcome. We were 3 couples and 2 single travellers and the 5 bedrooms provided all the space we needed. Would definitely recommend.

  • "This is just a wonderful house that fits our family needs perfectly."

    It is stylish, well equipped, comfortable and has all the facilities you need for a perfect holiday, including a superb location just minutes from the beautiful sandy beach and a pleasant stroll into town for shops, restaurants, galleries, the theatre etc. You really should book this house as it is brilliant … but please don’t book it the week we want to come.

  • "The house is beautiful and a very carefully thought out combination of modern and traditional."

    The kitchen diner is wonderful and everything is provided. The five bedrooms are all themed and the bathrooms are very well set out. No fighting for bathroom space as there are so many options. The owner had thought of everything to make the house comfortable and practical and had left welcoming gifts. This is by far the best holiday rental house that we have ever stayed in.

  • "A beautiful house that has been decorated to a high standard and with good quality furnishings."

    The property has everything you need and more and was well equipped for all members of our party (6 adults, 2 children and 1 dog). Location is ideal with shops nearby and about a 15/20 minute walk to the main beach area and town centre. Good communication from the host too. An ideal holiday home in Scarborough!

  • "A lovely, spacious house which was a great place to meet up with friends."

    Large bedrooms, comfy beds and a well-equipped kitchen, with plenty of living spaces. On street parking, but we didn't ever have any problems finding a space. The location on South Cliff is great. A lot of care goes into little extra touches and we appreciated the generosity of the hosts in providing plenty of basics like toilet rolls, dishwasher tabs etc. Thank you - the house is brilliant - can recommend highly.

  • "We loved this property."

    It was extremely clean, the bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen were all spotless and it was great to find sauces, milk, and even doggie treats. On the downside we found it very cold both downstairs and especially the bedrooms and unfortunately we left one night earlier than we had booked. The heating system was inadequate for the size of the house even with the log fires lit and radiators turned on and so we left one night earlier than we had booked. Having said that we would return but during the warmer weather!!! Thank you for a great stay.

  • "Excellent place for family get together."

    Lots of space but cosy too. A little way outside the main shopping area but a beautiful sea view walk soon gets you to them if that's what you're looking for. If not there's some great walks and views in the opposite direction.

  • "We had a wonderful time at the property, and will definitely be looking to book again for future get aways."

    The property was a great standard, very clean and so comfortable. The only bit of feedback I'd say was that there were a few key things missing in the kitchen - for example there were no baking trays (other than 2 pizza trays with holes in), and only one tea towel which wasn't really enough when catering for 6 adults and 5 children.

  • "We were celebrating a surprise birthday weekend for my husbands 60th everything was perfect all the rooms were beautiful and very comfortable with plenty of very modern bathrooms or en suite’s."

    It had everything that was needed all the little extras like games even in the garden. The kitchen had everything we needed for our number, we ate with everyone round the kitchen table, was pleasantly surprised with a nice bottle of bubbly and the use of condiments and cupboard stores very thoughtful of the owners also all the doggy bowls and cleaning products made it very dog friendly. The lounges were very comfortable with enough seating again beautifully furnished after our long days walking we loved going back to such a beautiful home which we felt it was, not just a house. We will definitely be booking up again. It was a well suited property for our party of 8 adults and one dog and easy parking. Many thanks from Sally and all the family.

  • "It was a lovely house, beautifully decorated and clean."

    Lovely that everyone had their own shower/bathroom. The beds were very ocomfortable. A perfect place to celebrate our Diamond wedding anniversary with the family, of course helped by the wonderful weather . The owner of the property was very helpful when we had to get in touch. I suggest that a note is put in the kitchen saying where the cutlery is kept!!??

  • "Gorgeous house, well appointed and very comfortable."

    Particularly liked the provision of loo roll, tea, coffee and store cupboard items. Very minor issue with slow draining of shower in Blue Room. Easy walk to cliff lift and we managed to find nearby parking for 3 cars at a bank holiday weekend.

  • "We had a fabulous stay in 39 West Street."

    The house worked really well, from the layout of the rooms, plenty of bathrooms (all well supplied with bulky essentials like loo roll) very comfortable beds and several smart tvs where we were able to log into our own Netflix and Prime accounts. The rear garden was dog friendly, safe and with easy access to the rear. Parking was easy in the side road and there was very little traffic noise. The house is well situated for local shops and Scarborough south beach. We were made to feel really welcome by the owners messaging us to say when the house was ready (earlier than advertised) and they even left us a bottle of bubbly as a welcome gift! Would definitely recommend.

  • "We had a lovely time in the house, and glad to say it still has the comfiest beds ever."

    It was very clean, the outside seating area was lovely, the showers were great. The coffee machine was well used and the jigsaw table got a good workout. With 7 of us staying it still felt airy and spacious, and of course, the legendary fish and chips weren’t far away. It was nice to see the cliff lift working again and the place returning to normal. Thanks very much for a great holiday!

  • "We had a really wonderful weekend at 39 West Street."

    We were going to a concert at the open air venue in Scarborough and we booked #39 for me and my Husband and our two friends so each couple had a floor to themselves, not having to share facilities or wait for showers etc. The house can easily accommodate more people - the 4 of us just really value our own space. Antisocial socialisers lol! The house is beautiful and the outdoor area is a peaceful little private sun trap. The owners have thought of everything and we will most certainly stay again.   • "This is our 4th visit to west street and we can’t wait to go back."

    The house is STUNNING and has everything you need and more. The owners have thought of everything and then some. We didn’t think that the house could be improved in any way but the owners have added a log burner in the lounge and have changed two bathrooms. As soon as we turn the key to the door of 39 West street we feel so happy and relaxed and we leave all our worries and stresses behind us and we always have the best holiday in our happy place. We’ve been coming to Scarborough for the last nineteen years from when our children were tiny to now being adults and now we’ve found west street, we can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Scarborough.

    An absolute gem of a property. Everything has been thought of to make your holiday experience perfect, the attention to detail is off the scale.   • "Positively, everybody very much enjoyed the house: comfortable beds, quality bed linen, great showers, lots of places to hang-out according to mood and/or time of day, not having to worry about parking (we are regular visitors to Scarborough) was a bonus, respectable and quiet area yet at shops in five minutes, very nicely painted (a credit to your decorators), quality dishes, fixtures and fittings."

    All in all, a very enjoyable experience, one which we would be keen to repeat soon.

  • "The property is beautiful and centrally located."

    The beds are supremely comfortable (so much so that four of us have decided to buy the brands we slept in). The kitchen table is without a doubt, superb. The adults stayed in the kitchen the entire time. Kids used the lounge, but ate with us in the kitchen. Perfect seating for 10 in the kitchen; we definitely all had table envy. The kitchen is well equipped. Though we had a hiccup with the Hive heating system from our second day, the owners went out of their way to get us electric heaters for each room and supply us with more wood and firelighters for the wood burning stove in the kitchen, as well as get a plumber booked in as soon as they could; so we remained comfortable and they handled the problem extremely well. Parking was not an issue and the alley at the back of the property was the best place to unload the cars. When we couldn't find the cutlery because the kitchen is so posh (!) (in the hidden top drawer of the large drawer with the cutting boards), the manager we called was very friendly and accommodating. The South facing rear terrace was a suntrap, allowing some of the more hardy souls to sit there and take the sun when it was 10 degrees (but felt like 17 in the patio). The skylights in the kitchen were wonderful, adding tremendous light. Indeed the whole house was bright, cheerful and impeccably and sometimes humorously decorated. We loved it and have no hesitation in recommending this property. One word of caution with Sykes Cottages website - when you do a search for specific dates, the dates that may arise for booking may not be the dates you put in when you go to book - be very careful about this, as even if you notice the mistake immediately after booking, they will charge you extra. Subsequent look at their reviews suggests this happens to a lot of people so was not just a one off. I have not marked this property down for this because it's not the owner's fault, but rather, Sykes Cottages website. So, while I would most definitely book with this owner again and this house (or any other houses this owner may have on offer), I would be cautious when booking through the Sykes website, take screenshots before booking etc. Finally, the house is not one for serious mobility issues, as the bedrooms do require going up at least one steep flight of stairs. That said, there is a toilet/shower downstairs, so you would only be required to go up and down once in a day and the banisters do help - thus, it was not a problem for me with moderate mobility issues.

  • "The house was spotlessly clean, a real home from home, we all had a wonderful time."

    It was beautifully decorated, really spacious and lovely comfortable beds. The kitchen was our favour place, it was such a warm and welcoming place, loved it! I had a question for the owner who answered me very quickly and was really kind and helpful, it was really appreciated! The dogs also send there thanks for the treats that were left for them. Highly recommend, great place to stay.

  • "Fantastic christmas stay for 2 families and a dog."

    The house is beautifully decorated and the owners have thought of every comfort. We wanted for nothing cooking christmas lunch for 8 adults and the additional touches such as hamper, fizz and christmas decorations were great. Comfortable roomy bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms. We had the best time. 5 minutes walk to the coast with fantastic views. Parking was very easy close by. We all loved it and would highly recommend. Scarborough was lovely.

  • "The house is mainly lovely, very clean and comfortable."

    No large pans in kitchen was disappointing, (trying to cook for 9 was tricky!) as was no shower curtain in bathroom on landing, plus the plug in sink in same bathroom was stuck in place, effectively rendering it unusable. One of our group tried to sit in the cage/swing chair in the garden when we first arrived, and it toppled over completely, leaving her quite badly bruised. Good location though, and some stylish touches throughout the house.

    . wow !!! What a gorgeous house. I have never stayed in such a beautiful property. The house had everything we could need and then some. The decor was stunning, the bathrooms were simply gorgeous and the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. We can’t wait to go back.

The property

Situated in the heart of the bustling seaside town of Scarborough, North Yorkshire, rests this breath-taking property, 39 West Street.

Set a stone's throw away from the coast and within easy reach of an array of local amenities and attractions, this property is ideal for a group celebration for families and friends alike.

Upon arrival to the property you'll be blown away by the rustic Victorian architecture decorating the exterior, featuring ornate gables, iron railings and large bay windows.

Stepping into the property you're welcomed into a small porch, providing handy storage space for your beach going essentials and the perfect spot to dust off your sandy toes before continuing through to the main area of the house.

Follow the hallway through to the sitting area, beautifully appointed with modern furnishings whilst maintaining the property's traditional character with the addition of ceiling roses, Gothic-style bay windows and a rustic leather chesterfield sofa.

The lounge features two seating areas, so you can choose between gathering around the television to enjoy a film or snuggling into an armchair and escaping into a good book, relishing in the warmth of the electric fire.

Before settling down for the evening, make use of the handy shower room located on the ground floor, and use the washing machine to freshen up your wardrobe.

The heart of the home is found in the open-plan kitchen/diner, decorated with a light and airy colouring and featuring a contemporary kitchen with rustic accent features, housing all of the necessities required to rustle up a meal for the group.

When it comes to serving up, guests can decide between gathering around the stylish wooden dining table that takes center stage in the modern open-plan space, or heading to the dining room, where you can indulge in a more traditional setting.

The separate dining room is elegantly decorated with a contemporary monochromatic colour scheme and boasts an eye-catching period fireplace and towering bay windows with wooden shutters.

In the warmer months take your dining al fresco with an escape to the courtyard through the fancy bifold doors in the kitchen/diner, soaking in the fresh sea air and toasting a glass of chilled fizz with your loved ones.
