  • "We have just spent a week in this delightful little cottage."

There is everything you need in the kitchen and the oven and hob are very easy to operate. We found the cottage lovely and clean upon arrival and the shower is lovely, we particularly liked the fact there is a non slip mat in the shower cubicle, and the shower is great. The bed is very comfortable. The cottage is roughly half way between Barnard Castle and Bishop Auckland. If you have dogs there's a lovely long green for walking them and we had no problem with finding a parking space. Within a short space of time of arriving Jo the owner popped in to meet us and is extremely nice and helpful. We would recommend the cottage and really hope to visit again next year sometime. Thank you Jo.

I’m so glad that you enjoyed yourself and really hope that we see you again - there’s lots more in Teesdale and the surrounding area for you to explore Happy travels Jo Property Owner

Everything you need is here for a comfortable cosy stay. The owner popped in to say hello & ask if we had any questions, she had also kindly left us a welcome pack & some treats for our little dog. Staindrop is a 'classic' english village, we enjoyed our evening walks looking up at the sky full of stars.

Easy to find. Provides all you need for a short stay, even for the dogs which is a nice touch. Great host who came to greet us shortly after arrival and make sure all was in order. Our only observation is that it is a bit "compact" but then again, it is a cottage

  • "While the cottage looks lovely on the outside, on entering, you immediately have to reach for the light switch as it is very gloomy even though there was already a lamp lit."

The windows are very small which you expect in an old property but they were overshadowed by neighbouring buildings which prevent alot of sun or daylight from entering. It was also very difficult to get the rooms warm and keep them warm as the heating controls didn't stay at the setting chosen. The temperature in the mornings was set at 16degrees which wasn't suitable for us as we are early risers One thing to note , there is no facility for keeping frozen food as there is only a fridge

Thank you for the feedback about the heating - I will have a look at that. There is a set heating schedule but you should have been able to override it using the control in the cottage. Property Owner

    E. some poo bags, a towel and treats plus wine, milk and biscuits for the humans! Lots of information regarding the local area and walks etc provided in the cottage. Dog friendly pub within 30 seconds of the cottage which my husband liked as it showed the football too (as it chucked it down with rain on Saturday afternoon). It was cosy and easy to use the heating if needed or the electric heater in the living room. Only very minor niggles - few cobwebs spotted and would have liked some hand soap at the kitchen sink plus maybe some shower gel in the bathroom. Overall a really nice stay, would recommend for location to Raby and Barnard Castles.

Thank you and I’m glad you enjoyed your stay We do have very energetic spiders (that’s old buildings for you!) and I am in a constant battle with them - I am sorry that some of them had clearly got the upper hand during your stay ☹️ I note your suggestions about hand soap in the kitchen and shower gel I hope we see you again Jo Property Owner

About the location

STAINDROP

Barnard Castle 5 miles; Durham 20 miles.

The pretty Teesdale village of Staindrop has always been closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle and its owners. The Castle (open to the public) is one of the most grand in England. Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a walled garden and 200 acre deer park add to the splendour. Staindrop has many interesting shops, pubs and cafes set round its long village green. The popular market town of Barnard Castle is 5 miles away, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, plus of course its wide range of shops and tea rooms. Walkers will enjoy the many walks around Teesdale.
