  • "Lovely cottage - the owner said they’d had many holidays there and that was what made a difference I think."

It felt cosy like a real “home” as soon as you walked in. The decor was not the cheap “make do and mend” that you often find - it was really nicely and tastefully done. The cottage was very well equipped and the owners had anticipated most of the needs of visitors. The welcome pack was very welcome. Thank you. The cottage was lovely and clean, very warm and comfortable. It has traditional features (including a few spooky creaks and groans. We swear we heard a young child say “Daddy” just outside the bedroom door one night….. we hid under the duvet) A couple of “even better if’s”: (1) the dishwasher didn’t work properly and after three washes we had to wash the pots by hand as they were not clean at all (2) maybe leave some washing up liquid and a couple of dishwasher tabs for the next visitors (we left dish cloths). (3) The property is very difficult to find. I couldn’t find it on Google Earth so texted for clarification a few days before we went. I did not get a reply. We couldn’t find it where the post code led us, so we scoured the streets - the locals in the pub hadn’t heard of it either. The contact numbers provided were all the same number and not answered (no signal in the village so had to drive a couple of miles out of the village till I could get a signal). At one point, we even considered having to return home or find a Premier Inn for the night. I don’t know if this will help future visitors but I took the “what three words” reference: ///stylist.recorders.signature Somehow, we did spot the cottage on what was our last attempt. Negatives aside, all in all a lovely visit to a lovely cottage in a beautiful village. Our third stay in Staithes and the best cottage so far. We will be back.

Many thanks for your really positive feedback. We are really glad you enjoyed your time in Staithes and accept that due to the nature of the village is can be a challenge finding places! We will look at how we can improve that for future guests Also many thanks for allowing us areas to improve. That’s also really appreciated Best wishes Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in a beautiful location."

No parking included but Glen Vale have a website and are a good price for your stay. Very well equipped kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine but bring your own detergent products. Comfy bed but has feather pillows which offer little support - wish I'd brought my own. Doggy loved the under-floor heating!!! This is a great base for chilling out, or for exploring N Yorks. Best beach is at Runswick Bay.

Thanks for your lovely feedback we are delighted you enjoyed your stay and please come again Property Owner

  • "Positives..."

The cottage was handy for the beach etc, the bed was comfy and the wood burner was a nice addition. The milk was very handy when we arrived.! Negatives...cottage is dark and looks into nearby walls all around. Having to stoop so much to go from lounge to kitchen is a bit tiresome after a while. Property is for sale and needs some tlc..things broken or in need of a good clean. When we arrived no toilet roll, and a couple of logs or dishwasher tablets would have been nice. There was just empty log nets by the fire from previous people. The crockery was still in the dishwasher not very clean. Found mouldy food in the oven.

Really sorry to hear that some areas needed some cleaning thanks for bringing that to our attention and we will address it immediately Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay in Stonegarth and would definitely book again."

It had everything we needed and was lovely and clean. Cosy too as even though it was July it was rather chilly out. Our pooch loved the under floor heating in the lounge. We had to keep remembering to ‘duck’ in certain areas of the cottage but that is true of a lot of the cottages in Staithes. Ideally placed and not far from Dotty’s for our cream teas or The Royal George for a tasty meal We would definitely recommend Stonegarth

Thanks for taking the time to give us such lovely feedback. As a family we love to hear our guests had a good time in a village we love. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage in great location, on the whole well equipped with the exception of no initial sticks or wood for the woodburner so make sure you go prepared."

Many thanks for your review. Normally there are some starter logs for the fire so our apologies there didn’t seem to be any this time. We are glad you enjoyed your stay though Property Owner

  • "Lovely little cottage, very well equipped."

The cottage could do with a bit of a spring clean though. We did our best to clean the glass on the woodburner as we couldn’t see the fire due to soot buildup on the inside and the fire hadn’t been cleaned out from the previous user. The downstairs toilet flush needs replacing, from previous feedback I believe a fault with the toilet had been reported in December. We did have a nice stay but a bit of tlc would make all the difference

Many thanks for your positive feedback. We will look into the cleaning areas you discussed and for the downstairs toilet a part has been ordered and will be fitted as soon as possible. Property Owner

we especially loved the under floor heating and wood burner in the lounge which made for a comfy new year stay and the welcome pack was a pleasant bonus

Many thanks for taking the time to feedback on our cottage we are really happy you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "Very disappointing."

We needed to call a plumber to attend the water flow issue in the downstairs toilet. It appeared it had been previously flagged up and the issue was apparently known. An electric light bulb was missing. No replacements available. There is a wood burning stove but the starter pack of fuel consisted of 11 sticks and three logs and an empty coal bucket. There was a mouldy old tea bag in the teapot and having lost something under the dressing table I discovered a huge amount of dust as I looked for it. As we were in the cottage well into December there were no Christmas decorations to be seen. Disappointed.

We are really sorry you were disappointed by your stay in our cottage. Thanks for flagging up the issues you faced and we will address them. We hope you enjoyed Staithes. Property Owner

About the location

STAITHES

Whitby 10 miles.

The charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is something of an artist’s dream. Its pretty houses and cottages are clustered around the old harbour and surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, with a sheltered sandy beach set amongst the rocky coastline. The village can claim connections with Captain Cook who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to an RNLI lifeboat station and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) landing fish, crab and lobster, with boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and even whale watching available. It’s also the location of the popular BBC children’s TV series, Old Jack’s Boat. Staithes has a strong attraction for artists, with an annual Art and Heritage Festival, galleries and artists studios with art courses and workshops regularly on offer. There’s a free Illusion Trail, which guides visitors around the network of ginnels (alleyways), with trail guides available locally. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the sea’s edge. Altogether a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, visiting the larger resorts of Whitby or Scarborough and enjoying the moorland villages of the North York Moors National Park.
