  • "Absolutely brilliant accomodation in a brilliant location next to riverside."

In fact you're above the river next to bridge and after a downpour when the water level rises the view from windows is amazing and sounds spectacular. Apartment is beautifully laid out and spacious and 'So' comfortable and cosy, with huge sofa to relax in, and spacious kitchen area, bedrooms lovely n warm n had great sleep even though in front one you can hear river. Bonus is.... partial glass floor that shows cellar below from when it was an Inn and even got hatch access to it (if you dare)

  • "Fab comfortable cottage overlooked by the castle."

A few mins stroll into town and easy access for the glorious surrounding countryside. Plenty of free on street parking just a few yards from the front door so don't be put off by the absence of parking at the property.

  • "The property was excellent, beautifully presented with exceptional views from the windows overlooking the river and out to the castle."

It was a real find and for anyone wanting to escape for a few days it is perfect. Beautiful walks literally begin by turning left or right from the doorstep. The only downsides are no parking, very poor internet and nowhere to hang clothes! These are easily outweighed by the positives.

  • "Lovely apartment and great location."

We enjoyed exploring Barnard Castle and nice hikes in the surrounding area. Apartment was very clean & comfortable and had good facilities (pans, tea towels, etc.). In particular, nice river view and we enjoyed listening to the sound of the river. Didn't really notice the road noise that other reviewers mentioned. The view down to the cellar from the lounge is cool (you can get down there too)! The main issue was the poor internet. Smart TV and the Alexa device were effectively non-functional as a result. Don't come here if you want to be able to watch your favourite series or a movie in the evening, or come prepared with them pre-downloaded. We resorted to using our own mobile data to download things, but some networks won't have signal at the apartment (EE did but Vodafone didn't). Would not come here if expecting to do any remote working. If the owner upgrades the broadband then we could happily recommend others staying here.

Good morning and thank you for your feedback we have rectified the WIFI by moving to another supplier and had a fault on the line fixed so nothing preventing access to internet now. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Property Owner

  • "No external front door photos of holiday property which is on a main road with traffic lights immediately adjacent."

When in kitchen area (by the way lounge/kitchen area open plan) all one can hear is traffic noise !! This being from high window on road side. When reading about property describes parking as being near by. This is the very first time luggage etc has had to be carried some distance in order to reach a holiday property. Had to leave shortly after arrival.

  • "Beautiful lower ground apartment with amazing views of the river and the castle ruins, what a treat waking up next to those views ever morning!"

A quick walk over the bridge and up the hill to the wonderful Barnard Castle centre with a great variety of shops, pubs, and cafes. The flat has everything you need for a comfortable stay, the couch was really comfy. The property was warm, the shower was great, the Milton brown and espa toiletries were a luxurious touch! My only request would be to change the pillows in the main bedroom, they were too thin and flat for my liking! All in all a wonderful stay, thank you for the memories.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at the property."

Only negatives are the misrepresentation of the view of the river and bridge. From the photographs on yr website it looked like you had a superb view of the bridge and river - this was not the case. Possibly from other properties but not this one. Also not easy Parking - mainly due to roadworks but even so I think this should be pointed out. The property itself is stunning, it had everything and more that you would need for a very comfortable stay. The cleanliness was also superb. Would highly recommend if you didn't mind not having a view and the parking isdue.

Unfortunately the internet was not good enough for todays standards on top of the fact there is no signal inside. Apart from that it’s great. Would go back

  • "A lovely cottage, well furnished and equipped."

We enjoyed our stay. Probably out of your control but a window in the lounge to look at the river would have been perfect. Only problem was opening the front door from inside. Every time it stuck and took ages and a knife to get out. A bit panicked. Thought instructions to access key could have been a bit clearer, but help came when we rang someone.

Thank you for your feedback we are pleased you like the cottage and enjoyed your stay. The lock on the door has since been looked at. Kind regards Katrina and Stephen. Property Owner

As avid tea drinkers it was great to find a teapot as well as a milk jug -rarer than you would imagine! Beds were super comfortable and we found ourselves sleeping in way past our normal getting up time! Would have liked a mirror near a plug point for blow drying hair and dining chairs were incredibly uncomfortable but they are the only slight criticisms , apart from maybe a welcome pack of some sort would have been nice.Even post -Covid we have always found something has been left for us in other places even if it was just a pint of milk and some nice biscuits.

I’d recommend this place to anyone and the lack of on site parking wasn’t a problem don’t let it put you off. Barnard Castle is a lovely place to wonder around. Our dog Viv enjoyed the walks around a nature park 5min down the road, she’s at her happiest off lead exploring. We would love to return again soon!
