  • "What a lovely cottage, really well appointed and with the benefit of off-road parking which is always a plus."

    The provision of a welcome pack was much appreciated. Glenrae is ideally situated, not only for the centre of Thornton which is a short walk away, but for easy access to the coast as well - try the Steam Railway from Pickering to Whitby! I enjoyed my stay at Glenrae and would happily stay again. Gerry September 2026

  • "A wonderfully clean, well equipped, charming cottage."

    Comfortable for two. Three TVs! Dining for four may be a bit tight. There were many thoughtful extras provided: milk, eggs, tea, biscuits and wine; a shoe horn, an air thermometer, clips for food bags, wine corks and a clever mains powered torch on the landing. Both sofas have recliner seats and there is plenty of cutlery and crockery. It remained cool during a warm week. A few small items were less to our taste: pungent reed diffusers are unnecessary and cause headaches (so they spent the week in the garden), the dining chairs need seat pads (we used the lounge cushions), a milk jug and saucers for the cups would make tea drinking more comfortable. The single multi cleaner available was inadequate for the kitchen sink' (I felt guilty not being able to clean the tea stains!) It would be nice to have a visitor book to share local recommendations.

  • "A splendid place to stay."

    A good location near to the heart of the village, and ideal for access to the moors and the coast. Easy parking at the rear of the property. The house itself is superbly presented, really comfortable, spacious and with everything you need. There is a smart TV in the living room and a TV in the bedroom and another in the upstairs 'snug' - wonderful if you want to watch different programmes or just want to get away from each other! There was a generous welcome pack for us. It is personally cleaned by the owner so you can be sure of cleanliness. We plan to go there again.

  • "The property was just as expected from the description."

    It was small but nicely furnished and well equipped, and the thoughtful welcome basket much appreciated. So convenient for all the facilities of this lovely village. The weather was quite cold during our stay and we could not make the electric fire give out any heat- only light up, despite trying many times. This was the only appliance with no instruction book! Fortunately we could turn the heating up temporarily.

  • "My wife and I had a lovely 3 night stay at Glenrae."

    The cottage was clean and tidy and very well equipped. Everything was very comfortable and well set out. It was a short walk to the centre of Thornton Le Dale. Off street parking was available which is brilliant. It was also a great location for exploring the area.

  • "An amazing house in a lovely village."

    The house had everything for a relaxing holiday. We had a problem with the heating and within 5 minutes the owner rang us and sorted it out using the app which was brilliant . They also recommended the Bistro in the village we also tried the Fox and Rabbit which is 5 minutes away can recommend the Sunday Lunch. Hopefully we will be back ! Jackie and David

  • "Glenrae was a perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire Moors."

    It was clean, comfortable and very well equipped with the added bonus of private parking at the rear of the property. Thornton-le-Dale is a lovely village and just a 2 minute walk away. We left our car all week and took the buses to Scarborough, Whitby, Pickering and Malton. There are some lovely walks from the village too. Our weather was lovely so all in all a very enjoyable week.

  • "Excellent cottage in the middle of the lovely village of Thornton Le Dale with the added private parking behind the cottage."

    The owners have thought of everything within the cottage for comfort and self catering. Welcome pack was lovely. Excellent cottage information and ideas for visiting around the area. We visited Scarborough, Robins Hood Bay, Castle Howard, York, North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Whitby and Bridlington. Would love to go back and can thoroughly recommend this cottage.

  • "Clean,well equipped cottage."

    2 minute walk to village centre and easy drive to coast and North Yorkshire moors. Would skip the 2 pubs in the centre and go up the hill from the lights to Fox and Rabbit 3 miles away. Good beer and far better food here.

  • "Fantastic property."

    Well equipped and in a great location. The welcome basket was a lovely touch. We had a problem the last few days as the boiler broke and we had no hot water. This was handled swiftly and professionally by both Sykes and the owners. I would highly recommend Glenrae to anyone looking for a lovely stay in Yorkshire. We look forward to visiting again.

  • "We found the accommodation first rate in every aspect."

    The location was perfect for what we wanted to do giving access by both private and public transport to places we wanted to visit. The property was clean and really well equipped with useful welcoming items on arrival. The only thing my wife would suggest is a non slip mat in the bath/shower. In all other aspects inside and out it was very welcoming and perfect.

The beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale lies just two miles to the east of Pickering within The North York Moors National Park and the Dalby Forest. This is an idyllic location at the head of a beautiful valley and is a walkers, bikers and nature lovers paradise. Scarborough and Whitby are 13 and 20 miles away and offer all the amenities and facilities of two of the country's best coastal resorts. York and Castle Howard are about an hours drive away and offer all the history and culture that any holiday would need. The neighbouring market towns of Pickering, Malton, Kirbymoorside and Helmsley are great destinations and are the hubs for many summer festivals and shows. The National Park and Coastline offer many opportunities for a great day out. The North York Moors National Park is on the doorstep with miles of open moor to wander through.
