  • "The cottage was spotless and we had everything we needed for a great stay."

We would visit again. The owner responded to our queries. It's a cosy and quirky property. Although it can take four adults it's probably better suited to two- three adults maximum or two adults and a child/2 children. The stairs to the upper bedroom are the only slight drawback but we knew about this beforehand. The pub next door does great food and it isn't noisy or disruptive at all.

  • "The property and location were lovely and just what we needed for a short break."

The stairs to the second floor were an adventure (advise taking some of them on your bottom especially if you’re nervous of heights) but it was worth it, the room was lovely. I could see the sea from the bathroom window after the fog had lifted, quirky and cute setting. Great for Middlesborough/Redcar, the Yorkshire coast and North Yorks Moors! We did so much in 3 days. Would recommend and hope to visit again.

  • "The property is small, not suitable for children."

The stairs are quite dangerous, wouldn’t recommend for elderly either. There was a problem opening a bedroom window, and it was a hot restless night. Owner came next day to sort it. Offered us an extra nights stay.

Thank you for your feedback. Esme's Cottage is very old and therefore the stairs are very steep by modern standards - this is detailed in the description of the property when booking. We apologise the velux window was faulty during your stay and as you say we did rectify this and offered an extension to your stay. Property Owner

internet strength was good , Bedrooms and beds are very comfortable, although very steep stairs to both especially the top one. Bathroom is lovely,Only niggles are shame there isn’t a back garden, tv is very small, I thought it was bigger on pictures. Thanks for a lovely stay we will be back.

  • "Picture perfect cottage in a beautiful village."

It was the perfect place to stay to see in the New Year. The cottage is cosy and charming but with all the mod cons, like excellent mattress on the beds, smart t.v (to keep our boys entertained!) and a good power shower! The kitchen is fully equipped as well. We loved having a real fire and it provided enough heat. The welcome pack when we arrived was a really lovely touch and the boys enjoyed the sweets (and we enjoyed the Prosecco!). Ugthorpe is a charming village and a great base to explore that part of the world. There is a pub right next door but we didn’t hear it at all, unfortunately It was closed one of the nights we were there or we would have gone. We will definitely come back here.

The pub next door is a welcome addition to those wishing to use their facilities but there isn’t any issues with noise coming through the wall. The interior of the cottage is beautiful and has everything you could need.

  • "The cottage is lovely and comfortable."

It is situain a peaceful location where Whitby is a short drive away. Although it is attached to a pub we couldn't sit in as it wasn't dog friendly. We were hoping to have a meal in there on the last night but we're told we had to sit in the Beer Garden! I recommend that you take supplies with you as there isn't a shop nearby.

  • "I booked this as a 60th Birthday week away for my partner."

I looked at many cottages in this area. This one looked exactly what I was after. My grievance is that in the description given you were quite discrete about the pub being next door. Also as describing the outside area as a garden. To be honest the issue with the pub wasn't as bad as I'd expected as it was only open from 6pm - 9pm It did however make our view during this time basically rows of cars. The outside garden, was basically not much bigger than a patio. It wasn't great for us having the dog with us. There were no great views fron the cottage whilst downstairs. The only rolling countryside view was whilst standing at the toilet and looking out the window. So when we were sat out in the garden, we saw parked cars. On another note. It isn't that great an area for walking dogs. The impression I get is the local farmers don't want this and most of the public footpaths are hidden and the markers are not there. On the plus point the cottage is lovely and is well equipped. ( though the TV needs looking at. No terrestrial tv at all) I think you need to mention that it's next door to the pub, rather than declaring the distance. I think that was a bit sneaky. We have used Sykes before and found the previous chalet excellent. I shall look using you again, but will check with Google earth and check the listing a lot more throughly in future.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry you feel that some aspects weren't as you expected. We have taken your comments on board. Property Owner
