  • "I tried many times to contact Sykes but found your company must be one of the worst I have come across to speak with."

For instance, Chat line - busy contact, What's App - busy - contact us by text message and wait several days only then did I hear from you, but you did not answer my question even then. One week before I did eventually get a reply from Ian (I think) and managed from there. Do you not realize actually speaking to someone on the phone is the best Customer Service anyone can offer and takes away so much frustration. The cottage itself - heating excellent - upstairs comfortable and situated central which were all good. However, the dishwashes soap holder was broken so we could not use it, only half the kitchen lights worked, the downstairs lights were too dim so could not read from them at night, and the shower head fell off the top floor shower and we had to buy some more rubbish bags. Really and end of season situation which at the cottage price is really not good enough. We did manage to have a decent holiday though,

  • "The property was in a great location, catered well for 6 people with three bathrooms, 4 toilets and very comfortable beds with a view of Whitby Abbey from the top bedroom."

The only downside was the lack of comfortable seating in the lounge area for 6 people with only a double settee and two armchairs. Apart from that one negative a great place and would definitely book again in the future.

  • "A well located and well appointed property."

The bedrooms are excellent and so are the en-suite facilities. An issue is that the property is for six people but there were only lounge chairs for four which makes this area a little cramped.

  • "Very nice cottage/decor with the added bonus of a sea view and the Abbey from the top bedroom however as the window didn't open it got very hot in that room and there was no privacy in the top bathroom."

It definately needs frosted glass or a blind to stop anyone in the houses above the property being able to see straight in. One of the bed sheets, mattress protector and duvet was badly stained (covered in lots of large yellow stains) which couldn't be missed by whoever was putting clean sheets on the bed prior to our arrival. Despite this we had a lovely stay and everything we needed was supplied in the property.

We had a lovely three nights. The only minor criticism is there were only 4 chairs in the lounge. One of our party had to drop out, only 5 people stayed, but one person had to sit on a dining chair. Luckily they were comfortable.

  • "We absolutely loved Adventure Cottage - it ticked all our boxes for a group of six; location, parking, bathrooms, comfort."

The decor is tasteful and calming reflecting the seaside atmosphere. Every bed was very comfortable, efficient heating. The only comments we would make is that the family bathroom shower is dated in comparison to the others and the on/off switch seems tricky to get to work. Another two seater sofa would be great in the living room but there is ample space around the dining table for 6 when everyone is 'home'. All-in-all we were very pleased we found Adventure Cottage and enjoyed our stay immensely!

  • "We stayed in this property about 3 years ago, and found it to be ideal with it being so close to town."

However we did suggest that it would be better with enough comfortable seating for 6 rather than the 4, only a double sofa and 2 armchairs. This time with the weather so bad we were confined to staying in more than we would have liked, so not so plesent with shortage of comfy seating. We also found the cottage badly in need of a deep clean, especially on the top floor where the dust was so thick you could write your name, all the light shades needed a good clean too. The cottage is lovely and it's a shame that it's lacking care. Would we stay again, maybe if there was only 4 of us and cleanliness had been addressed.

Upstairs was a good space and as published. Downstairs, seating for four not six, dishwasher not working properly, washer dryer not working properly. The kitchen was tired and very small no room at all for food the food cupboards we full of cleaning fluids or utensils. Outside space so small barely room for two people and not useable, not private. No recycling (a drive if 15mins)No parking disc for extra car that had been requested. Some of the doors wouldn’t close. All said and done the service from the admin Team was good the downstairs did not meet the needs for a party of six. Karen

  • "Lovely, well appointed cottage centrally situated in a quiet street leading up to West Cliff."

Parking for one car a real bonus. We stayed as a family of 6 with parents, 2 young children and grandparents, the layout suited us as grandparents took the top floor and the family the first floor, all had their own bath/shower rooms . We did get a supermarket delivery which stretched the storage space in the kitchen, and ended up moving the cleaning products into the under stairs cupboard for the duration of our stay. It would have been nice to have a recycling bin (no room at the back) however we found a can and plastic bottle recycling point on the front near the boats, maybe this should be mentioned in the welcome info. This was our first stay in Whitby and we loved it.

  • "The travel directions to the cottage are not good."

Most people arrive not knowing the area and using their Sat Nav. It can cause a very stressed start to a holiday when Cliff St is hard to find due to No Entry signs. The key safe is very difficult to open to access the key and needs attention. Although there is one extra front door key it doesn’t open the front door lock. It is inconvenient when six adults are sharing one key.

Great location for town centre, harbour and beach. Good size for a cottage. Hadn't visited Whitby for 16 years but we will certainly be back. Good base for travelling to other seaside towns along the coast. Eden Centre was well worth the visit we made. Only one negative, the threshold strip between master bedroom and en suite needs fixing in place as my husband tripped over it a few times and the door wouldn't shut properly.

  • "Cottage was lovely."

Perfectly situated, less than 5 minutes to the harbour and local amenities. Rooms were lovely, albeit one of the double rooms quite small. Parking for one car just at the side of the cottage. Scratch cards can be purchased for additional parking if needed, which we did. Please note that these cannot be used in the parking spaces directly outside the cottage, as one of our family members realised when he got a hefty parking fine. Please note that although it states that there is a BBQ there isn’t, just in case, like us, you were planning to have a BBQ. All in all I would definitely recommend this place for anyone considering staying in Whitby.

The position is very central with not far to walk to the main attractions and there are plenty of pubs and restaurants close by. The car parking space is a rarity in Whitby and oh so welcome. We were a party of six adults and found all the rooms spacious and comfortable, all the bathrooms are a bonus too. We are regular visitors to Whitby and I can honestly say Adventure Cottage is one of the best places we have ever stayed.

  • "The cottage is lovely, warm & beautifully decorated & fitted the bill perfectly for 5 adults - 2 en suites & a separate bathroom."

Everything was provided & the welcome pack of milk & cake, biscuits, crisps etc was a lovely surprise. A small leak from one of the showers was fixed immediately & the only negatives - the top floor bedroom window wouldn't open; the toilet roll holders were a bit precarious; and the bedroom next to the bathroom although had a superking size bed (singles zipped together) was a very small room, the picture in the brochure being very deceptive - we all had a lot of baggage for outfits for the Pickering war weekend so had to share another bedroom for clothes - but on the positive side - the bed in this room was exceptionally comfortable. As a group we have always stayed in hotels/B&Bs but it was so nice to get back in on an evening & sit around a fire & chat - and not rush in the morning for breakfast - we found a number of lovely places for breakfasts, a stones throw away from the cottage. We will definitely return.

Instructions about putting rubbish out but no bin bag in kitchen bin. No way to open window in top bedroom - OK in October but not so good in summer months.
