  • "The overall cottage was as described, it was lovely and comfortable."

My only problem was, reading the reviews about the shower that were a couple of months old, I would have thought the problem with the water and shower would have been fixed by now. The shower head was falling off the wall, making difficult to stand underneath for a shower. But the water from the shower was scalding, it was like boiling water, trying to figure out how to use it, as they're no directions instructions on the tap, was impossible, because the water was so hot the steam filled the room, then no visibility at all. We phoned Sykes about the issue, someone came out to look at it, but we didn't hear back from the visit, no communication at all. Just trying to have a shower was a chore, using the bath taps trying to wash, was not great, washing is a basic need, which turned out to be impossible. It was hot in Whitby at the time too, so a nice shower would have been great. I would only recommend the cottage if the shower worked, without 3 degree burns.

  • "The Albany cottage is nicely located on a nice spot in the old centre of Whitby, nearby several pubs, antique and vintage shops and bakeries."

The cottage is actually the souterrain under a larger house, called Albany that's also a rental apartment. The pots and pans, cutlery, plates and bowls were sticky and not washed properly. The kitchen is small, but sufficient. The shower wasn't that good. It was very hot and not possible to turn colder. It's also very low and leaks, so you cannot stand proper. The sofas were very comfy and the beds aswell.

  • "Hot tap in bathroom sink needs attention."

Bedside cabinet top drawer handle in double room needs attention. No milk jug in kitchen. These minor issues did not detract from a perfect week away in a tastefully decorated, cosy comfortable cottage.

  • "We had a fantastic time staying at the Albany cottage a few weeks ago."

It’s in a great location, only a 5 minute walk to the sea, and the cottage itself is lovely. We didn’t end up using the parking scratch cards (but were happy to have them just in case) as we parked in the car park just down the road for £9 a day. The cottage itself was clean and tidy, with fresh sheets and towels provided and everything we could need. Our only issue was with the shower head, it seems to need repairing or replacing as it’s starting to come away from the wall. It worked well, but as it has dropped down slightly from the wall, it was difficult to stand underneath it! Other than that, we had a wonderful stay and would be happy to return for our next visit to Whitby.

  • "Lovely accommodation."

Well equipped kitchen with everything required for self catering. Super comfy beds and a pretty bathroom. The lounge is a comfortable place to relax. Excellent location just a short walk to good cafes and restaurants.

  • "We've stayed with Yorkshire Costal Cottages previously and recognised that the quality of your holiday apartments was higher than other Whitby holiday letting companies."

That said we would not return or recommend this property. We found the attention to little details lacking eg. lack of clothes drying screen, a sweeping brush, general instructions for settling in, etc. Also some annoying little things like the lack of bin bags, toilet roll, cooker dial numbers rubbed off, etc. The shower head was also hanging off the wall and the pipes howled at certain temperatures. The biggest complaint was the noise from occupants using the patio upstairs which was directly outside our bedrooms and kept our kids awake late into the night. I understand this property is also managed by Yorkshire Costal Cottages, so surely you could request occupants to respect their neighbour and possibly suggest a curfew time for using the patio such as 10pm. After the second night disturbed by the noise and having to comfort my crying daughter who wasn't able to sleep, I had a polite word. That appeared to work on the night but the family's late night patio gatherings continued for the rest of the week. This really spoilt our stay and quite stressful each night waiting to see if things would kick off. To be honest folks I never leave reviews as I feel there as so much people whinging on social media about the smallest of thing, therefore, you cannot underestimate how disappointed we were with this property. Kind regards David Alexander

  • "Appartment 23a is just absolutely fab."

Two of us stayed here for 2 weeks and it felt like home, lovely and cosy, with everything you could possibly need. For some reason I thought the courtyard would be public but it's not - it's a lovely little outdoor seating area which is lovely in warmer weather. We had our breakfast outside and also ate outside a couple of times, at the end of September. The appartment was spotlessly clean, and lovely and spacious. It is next door to Silver Street Fisheries (Google it, it's amazing), 5 minutes walk one way to Bram Stoker's bench (and amazing views across Whitby), and 5 minutes walk the other way to the harbour. It could not be better positioned. There is also a lovely place called 'Shears' on Silver Street which is to die for - they do amazing breakfasts. Google it! You can use the scratch cards to get free parking around the area but we were a bit lazy and didn't bother. We just paid for the local car park which is a 1 minute walk away - it's £9/day. WHEN we come back to Whitby, we'll definitely be staying in Appartment 23a, as long as it's free! I cannot recommend it highly enough, and we are very picky!!

  • "Lovely property in ideal location."

The apartment was clean and well equipped with everything required for a great holiday. Only criticism is free permit parking is difficult to find so be prepared to pay on adjacent pay and display car park. Would definitely go again.

  • "The cooker & kitchen utensils poor."

Shower over bath very low & awkward to get in. Courtyard needs attention. Car for the house parked to close to the gate. Had trouble parking Saturday night paid £9 in car park when could of parked outside the flat as their were no occupants in the house. Overall not worth the money we paid.

  • "We had a lovely stay in Whitby and Albany Apartment."

The apartment could do with a revamp in parts and a deep clean. We felt on arrival that the place was not cleaned to a good enough standard. There were dirty glasses, hairs in the bathroom and the floors and carpets throughout really need revamping/cleaning. The beds and towels were impeccable so that was a positive. There is parking spaces directly at the entrance door to the flat for the main house. This caused some issues getting even bags of shopping into the apartment. This issue needs to be reviewed as it was frustrating particularly with a small pram/stroller. Understand that it is covid but to make the stay more enjoyable the owners or Sykes should send instructions/things to do via email. For instance all the settings on the cooker have all rubbed off and it was trial and error to work out which was the oven and which was the grill.

The scratch card parking voucher works well, you just have to find a parking place in the W zone. My husband, mum and I stayed for 3 nights and would definately return.

  • "Lovely cottage in the centre of town."

Very clean and comfortable bigger than expected really. Perfect for family of four with young children or teens. Cottage clean and comfortable lovely bright light decor making it feel roomy. Good size bedrooms with clean and comfortable beds. Big bathroom with bath and shower. Main room good size with light decor with 2 couches 2 seater and 3 seater and little breakfast bar table. Sky TV DVD player small choice of DVDs. Books also available. Good kitchen facilities with everything you need. Nice little courtyard with table and chairs outside. Great location for getting round town to shops sea front and restaurants. Plenty of parking around the cottage to get to with ease. We had a disabled child so would have been helpful to have parking outside the cottage but we managed Quiet location to say its in middle of town. No disruption from people passing buy or road and shops. Overall very happy with our stay and would love to stay here again when in Whitby

  • "Great place, wonderful location, has everything you need."

WiFi worked perfectly! Some areas ie bathroom/kitchen floor could have been cleaned more thoroughly! And major issue windows very old and thin so can hear when house above sit on patio, they are literally right outside the bedrooms, could do with thick black out curtains. Had a wonderful time. But probably wouldn’t book this exact accommodation again due to noise/light throughout night.
