  • "The property was in a great area."

Just a short, pleasant walk along the harbour side into Whitby. Rose Cottage looks very tatty from the outside and the steps leading up to the property were tricky. Certainly not suitable for anybody with mobility issues!! The front door lock could do with replacing. The toilet seat was hanging off, hubby tightened it up but still loose. There is alot of damp in the twin room. The whole house could have done with a good scrub! All in all tho, we had a very pleasant stay.

  • "The owner was lovely and helpful but some basic maintenance is required, I did inform the owner that the cold tap in the bathroom couldn't be turned on as there was no handle and to be fair they did say they would sort it asap but I said they could sort it later."

I didn't mention that the fan in the bathroom seems to be catching and may need replacing at some point as I only noticed it the last day. The cleanliness wasn't great either. There was sand on the sofa and dust on the windowsills when we entered, the kitchen sink was a bit slimy under the drying rack too. I found a few peanuts in the living room on the floor and we didn't have any peanuts so definitely from a previous resident. The mattress on the bed is also ridiculously hard and would probably benefit from a topper. Not the owners fault but the local residents up the hill were an issue as they clearly didn't like non locals on street parking and parked really close to my car out of spite. I just moved it as it clearly bothered them so might be worth warning people to park on the road going into Whitby town. Other than that it was a really fantastic base and was good value for money. It was better than the tent I was considering using until I saw the weather forecast. Despite the issues above I would definitely use the proprety again.

  • "Spacious cosy cottage in perfect location to visit all local attractions."

Fresh clean white towels and linen provided which was a bonus. Stairs could be a bit awkward if you have mobility issues due to narrow spiral but was fine for us. Kitchen had everything you need for self catering. Was even some games and books to read if you wanted quiet time. Only negative feedback is some furniture does need update nothing major just things like stand up mirror as when I touched it it fell apart had no nuts on the bolts to hold it together. Apart from that was lovely beds and sofas comfy no issues. Would definitely book again.

  • "Rose cottage was lovely, very spacious and provided everything we needed for our week away in Whitby and felt like we was home from home."

The only negatives I could give would be... the discripton of the property stated it had a garden (however what was there couldnt be called a garden, more a path outside the front window. We have 3 shit tzu's and it wasnt big enough for them and there was no grass in sight), the T.V in the bedroom although had an ariel recieved no channels. Virtually no freezer space. We was informed there was no parking for the property, however was misinformed about how accessible the parking actually is. Overall I would recommend this holiday home as it was only a 10 minute walk into whitby town center and only a 30 minute drive to some lovely walks.

  • "Cottage was noisy, slap bang on main road which was also bus route."

No parking. No garden for dogs. Tiny front yard was unkempt and had a bucket with liquid in it that stunk to high heaven! So obviously not much care or checks given to the outside space as small as it was. Inside the cottage was comfortable enough, but bare minimum fixtures and fittings/pots and pans etc. Didn’t look very homely, and plaster falling off the walls totally unacceptable for a cottage charging 350+ just for 2 nights!! Have had far better cottages than this for same money for a full week!! Disgusted to be honest.

Hi, Sorry to hear about the issues you had at the property, We have instructed a contractor to resolve the issue in the garden and to look at the plaster/paint. Property Owner

  • "It does need to be stated that there is NO parking or anywhere to safely unload or load your car."

.narrow busy road…might be lucky and get a spot on the front nearby..but unlikely…..we were lucky to get the last space in a car park 10-15 min walk with bags….it stayed there for the duration costing £9 night…. Apart from the entrance steps the stairs inside are like a spiral staircase and would consider them unsuitable for small children and anyone with even the slightest mobility problems . The cottage was clean although quite a doggy smell ….quickly fixed with a good air/fabric spray that I left there…..bedding and towels all crisp and white….hate the cushions on the bed.. Well equipped kitchen , ample seating, large shower room with plenty of hot water ,good sized bedrooms… Overall apart from the parking, which meant you couldn’t use the car or risk losing your spot, we had a lovely holiday..bus stops just round the corner into town and connections to bus to Scarborough etc..cottage could do with a few minor repairs…flaking paint on ceiling etc. Personally wouldn’t go back due to parking however there are lots of people who don’t have a car so this would be fine as they could get a bus from the train station with information being given with booking…..A few bus timetables at the cottage would be good… PLUS point…Fab fish and chip shop just round the corner…..

  • "The owners need to speak to their maintenance/cleaning staff."

We had to buy and replace the bulb for the outside light. The steps leading from the property are uneven and a simple check on lights etc before change over would have prevented one of our party from triping and nearly falling over. The pillows were dirty and one of them smelt of sweat. The kitchen bin was dirty, as was the microwave and oven. There is no garden, just a very small terrace area at the front of the property, certainly not suitable for dogs to be let out onto first thing in the morning and last thing at night. We have stayed in lots of holiday properties over the years, all have been far superior to this one.

Just a few things Disappointed to find a pile of dirty laundry in the bathroom It should be pointed out in the description that the steps to the property are difficult to negotiate for anyone with even slight mobility issues No washing up brush There was a sweeping brush but no shovel or dustpan A more detailed information sheet would also be a good idea Couldn’t recommend this property and wouldn’t return Rgds C R Sims / J Wroe

  • "The reasons I have marked this down is because of: 1."

The listing stated the property had "A garden" In fact there was no outside space at all, other than the front steps up to the only door. bearing in mind we had taken and paid for 3 dogs, this was an issue. Therefore I strongly suggest the word "garden" is removed from the description. 2. Facilities - there was no instructions on how to use any of the appliances, no local information and only half a toilet roll left for in theory 6 people. A petty issue perhaps but shows the lack of care and attention to detail.
